  29.
  30. Overview:
  31. Developed by the Dynamic Ordnance and Ammunition Corporation in 3140 as a
  32. relatively cheap BattleMech that could be marketed to militias and other
  33. buyers, the Ironclad quickly gained a reputation as a tough and reliable design.
  34.
  35. Capabilities:
  36. Starting with a custom skeleton for maximum flexibility, DOA Corp laid down
  37. three objectives for the Ironclad: low cost, ruggedness and firepower. The
  38. first two objectives were achieved by using older parts sourced from Defiance
  39. stockpiles, and eschewing expensive construction components such as Endo Steel
  40. or extralight engines. To save on costs, the design team even went so far as to
  41. use a Fuel Cell Engine as the heart of the Ironclad. With the addition of a
  42. pair of Poland Main Model A Gauss Rifles, the third objective was handily met.
  43. The only downside of the nascent Ironclad was its low speed, but the addition
  44. of Triple Strength Myomer, and the addition of the battery of lasers necessary
  45. to keep the TSM running, made the Ironclad as fast as other assault mechs, and
  46. a much more brutal combatant. To prevent overheating when struck by Inferno
  47. missiles or charging through fire, the design team also added a pair of Coolant
  48. Pods.
  49.
  50. Deployment:
  51. Since the Ironclad's release in 3140, the design has seen relatively little
  52. proliferation outside of the western half of the Inner Sphere, though mercenary
  53. groups who are interested in the design have spread some examples throughout
  54. the remainder of the Sphere.
  55. The Second Galatean Defense Force on Syrma used the Ironclad to its fullest
  56. during a raid by the 1st Mixed Striker Cluster of the Jade Falcons. As the Clan
  57. forces pushed back the Militia, a lance of Ironclad pilots activated their TSM
  58. to increase their speed, catching up to the fleeing pilots, and moving to meet
  59. the incoming Falcons, a medium star caught up in hunting down their foes. The
  60. experienced Ironclad pilots tore the overzealous to bits in a short exchange of
  61. fire, ultimately rolling back the rest of the trinary and forcing the Cluster
  62. to quit the world for a time.
  63. In addition to serving with mercenaries, the Ironclad has a limited presence in
  64. Lyran forces, such as the Nekkar DPM, where the design often serves as an
  65. anchor for non mech forces to rally around.
  66.
  67. Variants:
  68. Due to the simplicity of the design, and its effectiveness as is, there are no
  69. alternate variants for the Ironclad.
  70.
  71. Additional:
  72. Easy to Pilot, Good Reputation(1), Rugged (2); Exposed Actuators, Oversized
