  82. Background:
  83.
  84. From a young age, Marien Huisman was an aggressive and temperamental child, often fighting other children over perceived religious slights. However, due to the nature of the Shrine World she grew up on, this was interpreted by her and others as the mark of a zealous soul, one that longs to strike down the enemies of the Emperor wherever they may be found. Unfortunately, nobody had considered the more negative implications of this, relating back to her father's time in the Imperial Guard. While resisting a daemon invasion, a fragment of the axe of a Bloodthirster lodged inside of Matthijs Huisman's chest. While his faith was strong enough to shield his mind from the influence of Khorne until the shard could be removed, the trauma lingered, and when his daughter was born, her innocent form was open to the malign influence of the Blood God. While Khorne was unable to exert extreme amounts of influence into corrupting the child, she began to have dreams of war, and displayed overly aggressive behaviors around her peers. Religious indoctrination had convinced her that she was to be a warrior of the Emperor, and the stated reason was enough to allay much suspicion of her. When she was thirteen years old, she was sent to the Adepta Sororitas, specifically a convent of the Order of the Valorous Heart. They believed that in this order, she'd be able to smite the enemies of the Emperor as fanatically as she wished.
  85.
  86. She initially began her time in the convent as a squire of sorts. She spent her time in the armory, working with the sisters whose role it was to bless the holy weapons of their cause, anoint their power armor, and make repairs in the wake of battles. When she became a woman grown, she was inducted as a full battle sister, and began to wage her wars for her god, unknowing that it was not the god she thought it was. She served with distinction during several campaigns, always in the thick of the fighting, always displaying supreme aggression against her enemies. After time, though, the head of her convent began to suspect her and her rage of being a symptom of something much, much greater. Unable to find any true form of heresy among her beliefs due to the nature of her corruption, she simply assigned Marien to the Sisters Repentia and hoped that the problem would become moot soon enough. Things would not be so easy for the Matron. During the battle, she was injured multiple times by the weapons of the enemy, and still she endured, still fighting, still struggling. When it seemed like her time might be up for good, she felt a booming, yet reassuring voice in her head. She recognized him both as the Lord of Blood, the one who sent her those dreams and visions so long ago, and recognized that he was distinct from the emperor. The voice told her of how she was betrayed by her order, and that if she accepted the rage of her god, she would be able to strike back. Dying on the ground, she accepted, and that was the end of her memories of that battle. The next thing she could remember is laying on the bloodsoaked ground, looking at the sky, and realizing that there was only one thing to do next. She left the battlefield, swearing revenge on her order, and found a ship offworld. She spent time among other heretics and renegades, learning much about her new object of direct worship, and fighting alongside like minded people. This was where she earned the epithet "The Purified", as she washed away the taint of her association with the dogs of the corpse god in tides of endless blood.
  87.
  88. Some time after this incident, during another battle on a forgotten world, Marien collapsed from hunger. She managed to drag her weakened form to a nearby home in the planetary countryside, threatening the occupants in order to obtain their food. Realizing (in a moment of lucidity, possibly hunger-related) that her devotion to the Blood God was causing difficulty with her ability to remember trivial matters like sleeping and eating, she dragged the occupants of the house, a brother and sister named Jesse and Kalie, off to serve her. They're not especially accustomed to life in a warband, but do their job of ensuring that Marien takes care of herself and does things like bathing and eating and sleeping admirably. The two aren't especially thrilled with being slaves, but understand that Marien's influence keeps them relatively safe from the other horrors around all of them.
  89.
  90. Appearance:
  91. Marien is slightly above average in height, at 5'7" tall. She has short, dirty blonde hair (often in both senses of the word), and a rounded face. Her build is athletic. She has a prominent chunk of flesh missing from her cheek from an impromptu tattoo removal (her Sororitas tattoo). She has also carved a symbol of Khorne into her left breast with a knife shortly after her conversion. the symbol is slightly sideways due to the method she used to carve it.
