  16. LAST TIME
  17. A chance discovery in Lyra's room led to one of the butlers informing Lord Travis of Lyra's mysterious pregnancy, and one of the maids held onto her AEIOU papers to keep the secret safe. After Anon retrieved them, he found himself facing down Lyra and her parents, alongside a very confused Bonbon...
  18.
  19. AND NOW
  20. Lyra called for everyone to go inside, and now you sit with a cup of hot tea and cider. Nothing has been said thus far, though the way Lord Travis is glowering makes you glad there's some furniture between you and him.
  21.
  22. "Well, I suppose we start with this. Can you tell us what this is, Heartstrings?" Lyra's father slides the AEIOU documents across the coffee table for her to read. You note his use of her birth name, but the tone he delivers it with seems far less angry than you'd expect. Injured, even.
  23.
  24. "This is from the AEIOU. They're test results and a letter of invitation to a research program." Lyra speaks calmly. She's likely had a lifetime of being grilled like this. "It was blood work. For pregnancy. Positive."
  25.
  26. "Could you please explain to me how you conceived?"
  27.
  28. Lyra falls silent. Bonbon looks on, mortified. You could try joining the conversation now to support Lyra, or hold your peace.
  29.
  30. ...
  31.
  32. Seeing Lyra struggle with her words, you raise your hand and look Lyra's parents in the eyes (or try to, I mean, there's two of them, come on).
  33.
  34. "What is it, Anon?"
  35.
  36. "It was me." There's a sort of blankness in their stares as they try to process the information. You can't bear to even imagine what Bonbon is going through right now. "It... just sort of happened."
  37.
  38. "These things don't just happen." Lady Travis finally shows some decorum, though you can hear a rising fire in her words. "How exactly did she come to carry your child? And don't say it was magic, that doesn't work. You're not even a pony! Darling, did he take advantage of you?"
  39.
  40. "What? Mom, no, I—"
  41.
  42. The very notion is enough to have Lord Travis rise from his seat, looming over the table. "What do you mean, no? How else would this happen?"
  43.
  44. "No means no! I just... I'm sorry." Lyra must be regretting sitting between you and Bonbon. She can't bear to look at either of you right now, much less her parents.
  45.
  46. "Sorry for what?"
  47.
  48. ...
  49.
  50. You cut in again, trying to take the pressure off Lyra. "I thought it would curb her obsession with humans. I didn't know this would happen."
  51.
  52. You feel yourself rise from the couch. Lord Travis has you by the shirt in a telekinetic grip.
  53.
  54. Three rolls to escape.
  55.
  56. ...
  57.
  58. >>3371548 >>3371566 >>3371640
  59. 8 + 6 + 10 = 24 v DC 20
  60. You grab your own shirt and pull it down, breaking the grip. You're on your feet now, but Lord Travis is no less angry.
  61.
  62. "After everything she did for you, giving you a home and becoming your friend, you took advantage of her!" The dark stallion stomps around the table and now looms over you. His horn glows with some unknown spellpower. "There are no laws for this, but there will be justice.
  63.
  64. A teal bolt strikes his horn from the side, dispelling whatever he had prepared. "Dad, no!"
  65. "Heartstrings—"
  66. "I said no! Stop it!" She interposes herself between you and her father. "It was my idea to begin with! I... I'm in love with him. I love him! Please don't hurt him."
  67. "What? That's insane." Her mother looks at Bonbon. "Bonbon, where are you going?"
  68.
  69. Bonbon has already left the couch and is slinking around the edge of the room towards the hallway. Lyra panicks and tries to chase after her, but Bonbon picks up her pace. You can hear Lyra calling for her as they gallop through the estate.
  70.
  71. Lord Travis steps in front of you, but doesn't try to assault you again. "Don't go to them. You've done enough damage."
  72.
  73. ...
  74.
  75. "You don't think I know that? With all due respect, sir, I'm doing everything I can to make things right. The very least I can do is be there for her, and for my child. Now, if you'll excuse me."
  76.
  77. You calmly brush past Lord Travis, your heart threatening to leap out of your throat, knees weak, palms sweaty. You hear Lady Travis discouraging her husband from continuing after you, but at this point your brain is feverish in its focus.
  78.
  79. Bonbon and Lyra are in Lyra's room. Bonbon is packing her things into her bag while Lyra desperately tries to take them out at a faster pace. Bonbon seems very resigned, stubbornly folding and neatly packing her clothes away even as Lyra haphazardly throws them out with her horn magic.
  80.
  81. "Please, just listen to me!"
  82. "I'm not leaving, just going back to Ponyville early."
  83. "Stay with me. Let's talk about this."
  84. "Lyra, I don't want to make a fuss. Just let me do this and it will all be a lot easier."
  85.
  86. ...
  87.
  88. The sound of their arguing gives you pause. Probably best not to barge in, so you knock. They stop talking, and you help yourself in past the half-open door.
  89.
  90. "I'm sorry." You apologize for the intrusion, though the new weight of such words dawns on you as you step into the room. "Are you... packing?"
  91. "I'm just going back to Ponyville to tie up some loose ends. I'll be out of your hair before you know it."
  92. "So you are leaving. Bonbon, that's stupid."
  93. "No, what's stupid is me thinking I could make this work! Just... just let me go. It'll all be for the better."
  94. "Bonbon, listen to me, you can stay. You have to stay. I want you to stay, I still love you, and I always will, and I'm sorry for everything, I'm sorry I broke your trust."
  95. "You broke my LIFE. My dreams, my everything, you just set me up for this and I'm an absolute idiot for believing you."
  96.
  97. At this point, Bonbon has stopped folding her things and is just stuffing everything into the luggage, occasionally wiping away tears in her eyes and pushing Lyra off of her.
  98.
  99. ...
  100.
  101. "Bonbon, stop." You approach carefully. She's leaning over her suitcase and fighting the urge to break down into a sobbing, heaving mess. "I know I made a mistake. Lyra made a mistake... It was a huge mistake. But you leaving would be another mistake. Please think about this, I know it's hard, but Lyra needs you now more than ever, she needs all of us. She's going through something no one in this world or mine ever has. The months ahead are going to be hard, and none of us know what to expect. If you want to leave, I won't stop you, but please think about it."
  102.
  103. Bonbon slumps over into her luggage, stuffing her face into her clothes to muffle her frustrated scream. It trails off into broken sobs, and Lyra embraces her.
  104.
  105. "I just wanted a normal fucking life. I wanted—I wanted our foal to have two mommies, not two mommies and some naked monkey fucktoy!" Bonbon upends her luggage, sending clothes and things everywhere before falling against Lyra again. "How could I have been so selfish."
  106.
  107. Lyra just holds Bonbon close, gently rocking. She tentatively beckons you over.
  108.
  109. ...
  110.
  111. You carefully approach without saying anything, and Lyra gently magicks you down to your knees to join them in a group hug. You make sure to embrace both Lyra and Bonbon. Nothing is said for a while until Lyra pulls each of you into a kiss and, holding each of you up to face her, she whispers, "I love you."
  112.
  113. There is another moment of silence and wiping away of tears.
  114.
  115. "How are mom and dad?" Bonbon clears her throat and looks at you. "You should probably tell them what's going on."
  116. "You're not leaving?"
  117. "Of course not. I'm not kissing him, though." The earth pony forces a laugh.
  118.
  119. ...
  120.
  121. You laugh along with Bonbon, a genuine one. The thought of it is still ridiculous to you and you silently wonder why you ever entertained it.
  122.
  123. After the three of you have had a moment to calm down and clean up a bit, you all go downstairs together to give Lyra's parents the news. They take it rather well; Lord Travis remains seated while Lady Travis approaches you.
  124.
  125. "So what is your plan, then?"
  126. "Plan? We're just, uh... gonna take care of Lyra and the baby, when that comes along."
  127. "I mean your... relationship. We trust you're all mature, consenting adults, and it's likely none of our business but we still can't help but wonder. I already had bridal bridles picked out..."
  128. "Mom, I'm not gonna fit into anything in a month's time."
  129. "Oh, right, we should be getting you maternity clothes!" Lyra's mother has to curb her enthusiasm when she hears her husband clear his throat. "Ah, right. Well, I also want to tell you that we—your father and I—will give you our full support. Also, Anon, if you would please step forward a moment."
  130.
  131. "Yes, ma'am?"
  132. "Please, call me Ember." She laughs and takes off her hat. You realize she's an earth pony herself. Now you really have no idea how that hat stays on. "Anyways, I wanted to apologize for my husband's behavior. I had a little chat with him and we've come to an agreement, and he won't try to hit you again."
  133. "Oh, um... goody?"
  134. "I will."
  135.
  136. Take it on the chin or...?
  137.
  138. ...
  139.
  140. "Fair enough." You take a deep breath and brace yourself. She hikes her skirt up a bit, turns around, and bucks.
  141.
  142. "MOM, NOT HIS—"
  143. "Oh my goodness, my aim isn't what it used to be. Are you alright?"
  144. "Well, there go my hopes of getting more grandkids..."
  145.
  146. Everything goes dark as you cradle your groin.
  147.
  148. [to be concluded]
  149.
  150. ...
  151.
  152. You reach in through the doorway to turn off the lights.
  153.
  154. "She's so precious." Bonbon whispers to you from the other side of the doorframe, the two of you watching Lyra and your infant daughter sleeping together. "I'd feel bad about waking them up to move out of your bed."
  155. "It's fine, I can take the couch again tonight." You walk past Bonbon, but she pulls you away by the sleeve.
  156. "Actually, you could share my bed. Just this once."
  157. "You sure?"
  158. "Hey, it was built for two, I need something to keep the other half warm. I roll around in my sleep."
  159. "Ahaha. Alright." This is the first time you'd get to spend any significant amount of time in Lyra and Bonbon's room, apart from lifting the heavy furniture when you all moved in. You and Bonbon settle into opposited sides of the large mattress.
  160.
  161. "Good night, Bonbon."
  162. "Sweet dreams, Anon."
  163.
  164. ...
  165.
  166. You wake up in the middle of the night to find yourself turned around in the bed. Bonbon isn't on her pillow.
  167.
  168. You feel a breeze in your boxers.
  169.
  170. [QUEST END]
