  3. The following are excerpts from the transcript of the personal diary of Sergeant NAME REDACTED recovered from Company Hotel Bravo. All members of Company Hotel Bravo declared MIA, presumed KIA. The confidentiality of the following information is considered a matter of national security.
  4.
  5. 04/08/15 16:37 “Entry one hundred… Eighteen? Nineteen? The days kinda blur together out in the desert. We completed the rounds of patrol, and everything’s all clear, but Lieutenant NAME REDACTED says there’s been some interference on the FLIR. Fifty bucks says he makes that my problem. God I hate that guy. Heat’s been letting up the past few days. Thank Christ.”
  6.
  7. 04/13/15 21:24 “Entry one hundred twenty four. I swear I almost think I’m psychic. The bastard’s got me standing around in the heat monitoring the damn FLIR, as I expected. If that wasn’t bad enough, get this – He’s got me pointing it up at the SKY. Apparently some kind of “anomaly” was spotted up there. I’m sure it was just a glitch, and now I swear if we get ambushed by infantry in the night.... Let’s hope God sends a misfired mortar toward his tent. Haha.”
  8.
  9. 04/13/15 22:03 “Entry one hundred twenty five, uh, scratch that last. The FLIR’s picking up something weird up there. It looks like there’s a single, isolated cold spot on the infra red just hanging up in the sky. It’s night so I can’t see the sky too well but I sure as hell doubt there’s a damn snowball floating 50 feet above our camp in the desert. I’m sure it’s just a visual glitch, but I’ve scanned the skies (and the desert for that matter) and it’s only having a problem with that one spot. Strange. I’ll check it out when it’s light out.”
  10.
  11. 04/14/15 09:25 “Entry one hundred twenty six, sure enough there’s nothing up there at all. Still on FLIR duty, and that blue spot’s still there, and get this—it’s bigger. Not by much, but noticeably. I hope we don’t have to replace the damn thing, too many tax dollars going to waste in this desert already. Lieutenant NAME REDACTED was right so I’ll give him that, but I don’t think this warrants any deep investigation. He thinks so too apparently; they’re sending me back onto the usual patrol after today. Can’t wait. Boredom is more deadly than Taliban out here.”
  12.
  13. 04/21/15 12:21 “Entry one hundred thirty three. I’ve got a pounding headache. Something’s up though, I can tell the other guys aren’t feeling too well either. There’s been a general uneasiness around camp the past few days, and I can’t quite figure out why. I feel more and more… I don’t know, disturbed, as the minutes go by. Something’s definitely up."
  14.
  15. 04/21/15 12:46 “Entry one thirty four, I can hear it! My uneasiness, it’s rising slowly, following the rise of a low humming noise that’s filling the air. It must have been too low to hear before, but that must be what’s giving me this killer headache. It’s getting louder too, but really slowly. What the hell could that even be? It sounds like it’s coming from the damn sky itself. Wait hang on.”
  16.
  17. 04/21/15 12:54 “Oh my god, it’s there! I went out and looked up, I swear there’s nothing there, but I hopped on the Infra red again, and there’s that damn cold spot, only it’s huge now! I swear it has to be 20 feet in diameter, it’s taking up a good chunk of the FLIR’s view now. I don’t think this can be a glitch. I noticed a little spot in the cold area, slightly off-center, that isn’t cold. It’s lit up brighter like the rest of the sky. Like there’s a hole in the cloud of coldness. I can’t see anything up there though. What the hell’s going on?”
  18.
  19. 04/22/15 01:37 “Entry, uh, whatever. Can’t sleep. It’s too damn loud. Nobody else can sleep. I saw Lieutenant get out of his tent a while ago. This buzzing won’t stop I swear, God this is almost unbearable. It’s so loud now. The cold spot, it’s still there, and it’s still getting bigger. The hole in the coldness is a little bigger too.”
  20.
  21. 04/22/15 06:41 “Morale around camp’s really low right about now, and I can’t say I blame ‘em. We’ve gotten used to the weird noise and for the most part I can’t even tell that it’s there anymore, at least not consciously, yet I still have a weird sense of unease. We’ve been having some weird interference with some of the other equipment as well. Weird explosions of static breaking through on the radios, always gives a good startle. We’ve got no idea what’s up with that. Oh yeah, and on the FLIR that blue bubble of coldness has a second bright spot showing up, also a little off center, but you still can’t see a damn thing just looking up in the air in the direction I know it to be. Or at least, the FLIR knows it to be... god this is so infuriating, what the hell’s going on?”
  22.
  23. 04/25/15 19:15 “I swear to god. I SWEAR TO GOD. We’d almost forgotten it was there. That damn buzzing noise. It’s back more intense than ever, and there’s no doubt in any of our minds where it’s coming from: the sky over our heads. God I can’t hear myself think. It’s dark out but I think a few of the guys are getting out of their tents and looking up, But I already know they won’t see anything.”
  24.
  25. 04/25/15 19:20 “Oh god, they’re all standing out there, just staring straight up, at nothing, NOTHING, there’s NOTHING THERE! Two or three of our guys are just standing there motionless, mesmerized! There’s no doubt in my mind where they’re looking… Hang on, someone else’s coming out.”
  26.
  27. 04/25/15 19:17 “Oh god, oh god, It was the Lieutenant, I’ve never seen him like that. He stepped out with his M16 and ran directly toward the three men standing around looking up. I thought he was going to force them back into bed, but he pushed past them and started shooting up in the air insanely, as if trying to shoot down whatever was making that damn noise. His gun clicked when he emptied the magazine, and he threw it on the ground in fury. He dropped to his knees, insanely thrashing around, grabbing at his ears and head, before he pulled out his sidearm and without hesitation pointed it at his own head and fired. I can’t believe this is happening. This can’t be real.”
  28.
  29. 04/25/15 19:28 “I tried to radio for help, but it’s nothing but static now. I can’t get through. The static though, it’s not… I can hear something under the static, like murmuring voices, whispers… shut up, shut up, SHUT UP!”
  30.
  31. 04/25/15 19:31 “The FLIR. That thing. It almost takes up the entire sky, except for those two bright spots. It’s still humming. God why won’t it stop humming?”
  32.
  33. 04/25/15 19:33 “God please, please God, make the humming stop. Make it stop.”
  34.
  35. 04/25/15 19:35 “There is no God out here. I can’t hear your voice. Too loud. Too loud. TOO LOUD.
  36.
  37. 04/25/15 19:36 “Haha. Ha. Hahaha. HAHA.”
  38.
  39. 04/25/15 19:38 “I’m so scared please save me, I can’t, I can’t”
  40.
  41. 04/25/15 19:39 “God forgive me, I have no choice, please forgive me”
  42.
  43. 04/25/15 19:41 “The bright spots are eyes”
