  1. Under the Cypress
  2.
  3. >>The sky is black
  4. >>The noonday sun is obscured by swirling clouds as the sea roils and rages under the crags behind you
  5. >>The climb was arduous; the hike to the cliffs even more so
  6. >>But you've made it here, and that's what matters
  7. >>You stand here at the precipice, under a massive Cypress tree, looking down into the gaping, cavernous maw in front of you
  8. >>Nothing but blackness below and above, it seems
  9. >>It beckons
  10. >>”Your goal is below,” it seems to say
  11. >>What that goal is, you don't know
  12. >>How you got here is similarly foggy
  13. >>But you're not seized with doubt as you contemplate it
  14. >>No. Now you feel the pull; the instinctive need to see what awaits in the deep overcomes you and you fall
  15. >>And fall
  16. >>And fall
  17. >>What little light there was now disappears as you're swallowed by the teeming shadows
  18. >>They seem to move
  19. >>You're encircled as you plunge into the depths
  20. >>Faintly visible, screaming towards you at high speed, is the bottom
  21. >>The rocks resemble a great howling trio of dogs, their features bizarrely contorted by eons of decay and wear
  22. >>They come closer as you fall until you're feet from the cavern floor-
  23. >-And you lurch forward, cold sweat chilling your brow
  24. >A cool breeze blows in through the window, rustling the branches of the Cypress outside
  25. >You look at the clock beside your bed
  26. >12:52
  27. >It is day 117 in Equestria
  28. >You are Anonymous
  29. >And your dreams are getting worse
  30. 1/x
  31.
  32. >You lie staring at the ceiling
  33. >Another dream
  34. >Worst yet
  35. >You remember it in vivid detail
  36. >The visceral horror recalling the rocky formation that appeared at the end of the dream. “The Hounds” you've dubbed them
  37. >The familiarity of the scene is what gets you the most
  38. >Maybe it's from having this same dream every night for the past week, each longer and more detailed than the last
  39. >That's probably it
  40. >But you still can't help feeling disturbed
  41. >You get up to fetch a glass of water
  42. >The breeze outside is somewhat calming as you walk to the kitchen
  43. Can't stay up late again analyzing this....
  44. >You look at the clock again
  45. >12:59
  46. >You've got to help Lily with that crate of pots and potting soil in...
  47. >...
  48. >...Five hours
  49. >Plus, you've got bro-time with Rainbow after that...
  50. >...And you told Pinkie you'd help put that party together for Ditzy Doo's birthday...
  51. >It's going to be a long day
  52. >You look back into your bedroom
  53. >The Cypress branches rap against your shingles as the wind changes direction
  54. >It reminds you of the dream and you shake the thoughts from your head
  55. >For ten minutes you stand in the kitchen, part of you not wanting to go back to the bed for fear you'll have another dream
  56. >But you can't help your friends if you're dead-tired
  57. >You shuffle back into your room and force yourself into bed, concentrating on the sound of the breeze
  58. >It finally lulls you to sleep and you feel a great relaxation come over you as you drift off
  59. >This place is peaceful
  60. 2/x
  61.
  62. >Morning comes
  63. >You roll over to check the time
  64. >6:30
  65. >Your scream pierces the heavens
  66. >Suddenly you're in overdrive
  67. >Shirt? ON
  68. >Drawers? CHANGED
  69. >Pants? GOOD TO GO
  70. >Socks? FUCK THAT
  71. >You jump into your shoes and sprint out the door
  72.
  73. >Across Ponyville, Lily is leaning against a large crate
  74. >”Where are you, Anon?”
  75. >She rests her face on her hoof and taps the other against the crate impatiently
  76. >Rose comes out from the storefront
  77. >”Are you still out here, Lily? Why don't you call Big Macintosh or Caramel to help you?”
  78. >Lily turns and looks at her friend and coworker with a deadpan expression
  79. >”Because Anon said he'd help me and I haven't seen him in a couple days”
  80. >Rose perks up
  81. >”Anon's coming to help you?”
  82. >Lily smirks
  83. >”Don't you have work to do, Rose?”
  84. >The two of them turn quickly when they hear a loud crash from the square
  85.
  86. >You pick yourself up out of the dirt and look around
  87. >Several ponies have stopped to gawk at your display
  88. >”Uhm, Anon? You alrahite?”
  89. Yeah, I'm fine, AJ. Sorry about hitting your cart
  90. >'S fahn. Just help me pick up these here apples and Ah'll let ya on yer way”
  91. Thanks, AJ
  92. >You pick the apples off the ground and put them back into their bushels
  93. >Applejack tips her hat in appreciation and waves you on
  94. >You run full-tilt until the flower-shop is in sight
  95. >In front of the store you can see Lily and Rose standing next to a large crate
  96. >Lily looks annoyed
  97. >Rose looks bored
  98. >You stop in front of the two mares, gasping for breath
  99. >”You're late”
  100. I...know...over...slept...sorry...can't...breathe...gimme...second...
  101. >She waits your you to catch your breath before heaving the crate in your direction
  102. >Good start to the day
  103. 3/x
  104.
  105. >The crate is heavy
  106. >No wonder Lily asked you to help her get it into storage
  107. -hrrrk- Why did you order so much potting soil, anyway?
  108. >She looks at you from around the crate
  109. >”It's almost spring! -hrk- We need to stock up on these things. Besides...I sort of forgot to check how heavy it would be when I placed the order...”
  110. >You give her a hard stare and she chuckles
  111. >”Suck it up. We'll get breakfast after this. Sound good?”
  112. >The two of you lurch into the shop with the crate and head down the hall to storage
  113. >Rose watches as you go by the counter
  114. >The store isn't open until 8:00. Why'd she come in so early?
  115. >Lily and you finally get the crate put away and you walk back out front
  116. >”Thanks for your help, Anon, even if you were late”
  117. No problem
  118. >You wipe the sweat from your face with a rag Rose tosses you
  119. >”How about breakfast?”
  120. Sound's-
  121. “-great!”
  122. >Rose interrupts and rushes around the counter
  123. >”Let's go!”
  124. >The red-maned mare walks happily out of the store with you and Lily in tow
  125. >”Who's up for the cafe?”
  126. >You turn to Lily
  127. She sure is chipper
  128. >”SHE didn't have to haul that crate”
  129. >Rose turns when she hears you whispering
  130. >”You two just looked so cute together I couldn't bring myself to come between you!”
  131. >Lily blushes
  132. >”Besides, not like I can get a look at Anon if I'm behind a crate, now can I?”
  133. >Your hand goes to your face and you groan
  134. >Rose laughs at your reactions and continues walking happily ahead of you
  135. >You hide a smile from the mares
  136. >You've only worked with them for a week or so, but they're a lot of fun to be around
  137. 4/x
