Rance IX - Plot Summary Work in Progress

From the anon who did the shitty Rance 03 ones. My Moonrune reading isn't great and don't expect anything resembling a translation but given there doesn't appear to be any prospect of a translation of IX in the next 3 years+ this is something for the people on /haniho/ who want to know what happened but can't read moonrunes.

Because of the chapter system some scenes may not get played in exact chronological order so I'll order things correctly. An example is in Chapter 1 where you see scenes with Rance meeting Kanami while travelling to Helman before the scene where Patton recruits Rance in Rance Castle.

You'll notice that in some cases this appears to be quite detailed with so and so said this and so and so replied with this etc. It still doesn't cover a lot of conversation in the games just stuff I thought was important or felt like including. Don't consider it a translation or anything thorough it's just a plot summary that should give a general gist of what happens in Rance IX. The personality of some characters might not (probably won't) come through this.

Unfortunately as the summary started to get really large pastebin slowed down to glacial speeds so I had to break it up into several pastebins.

[AAAB]The Rebellion

Patton's Revolutionary Forces - Fighting to liberate Helman from the corrupt government and install Prince Patton as Emperor. Is divided into two groups - 1000 knights occupying the city of Laborie and a small elite assault force of 150 men. Rather than the Helman flag which is white H on a blue background, Patton's soldiers fly a black H on a yellow background.

Leadership
	Patton Misnarge - Son of the previous Helman Emperor and a legal concubine. Disgraced former Prince of Helman. He has learned from his mistakes and genuinely become a worthy leader and has asked Rance to help him liberate Helman.
	Hubert Lipton - Patton's best friend. Son of the legendary Thoma Lipton who was the world's strongest man before getting killed by Rance in the events of Rance III/03.
	Hunty Kalar - The legendary black haired Kalar who was friends with Patton's mother and has helped look after him since his mother's death.
	Freak Paraffin - Another living legend, Freak was heavily involved with the Holy Magic Sect centuries before the games and has carried many regrets of that era especially in regard to his former student and friend MM Rune. Currently off doing an important mission.

Laborie Garrison - A group of 1000 revolutionaries occupying the city of Laborie in the name of Prince Patton. Actually a decoy used to make Stessel believe Patton is in this city. Hunty is currently here.
	Portoff Torkarev - Patton's body double used to make people believe Patton is in Laborie. Is actually a cook.

Assault Force (Rance's Outlaws) - Made up of roughly 50 fighters and 100 logistics/support personal. Under the command of Rance even though Patton and Hubert are in it. Pretending to be an outlaw group led by the wanted criminal Rance. Posses a floating fortress.
Combatants
	Rance - A hero of justice recruited by Patton to help spearhead the revolution. Wants to go to Helman to fuck Empress Sheila. While he is there he will also look for an item in the Helman treasury which could unfreeze his slave Sill.
	Chaos - His talking sword who was once a human. Can kill demons but that's an irrelevancy in this game (it was revealed months before release that not Demons would appear)
	Kentou Kanami - The private ninja of the Queen of Leazas who has journeyed with Rance on several occasions and is one of his fated lovers. Joined Rance in the revolution due the orders of Queen Lia.
	Maria Custard - An inventor who has journeyed with Rance on several occasions. Is best friends with Shizuka. Runs into Rance in the mountains bordering Helman while looking for Hirara Ore.
	Masou Shizuka - A tsundere witch who has journed with Rance on several occasions. Is best friends with Maria. Is being targeted by her deranged half sister Nagi su Ragarl. Is traveling with Maria to protect Maria from Nagi.
	Russian Cullett - A young girl Rance 'rescued' from slaves. She is above a 90/100 in Rance's scale despite being a Helman peasant. Rance coerced her into agreeing to become his slave for this adventure.
	Maitreya Meisen - A young boy who is a mage and joined the revolution to avenge the death of his parents.
	Rick Addison - The legendary Red Death of Leazas and widely considered the greatest swordsman on the continent. He and Rance share a strong mutual respect. Sent to help Rance by the Queen of Leazas. Is not wearing his iconic red armour and helmet.
	Tilde Sharpe - A young and ambitious member of Leazas's Royal Guard. She is highly talented and aims to become stronger than Leila. Sent to help Rance by the Queen of Leazas.
Crook Mofus - A silent girl who is a very skilled healer. Is one of Rance's girls. She is actually the pope of the AL Church and is in Helman visiting churches.
	Alkanese Rize - A tall former bandit girl who is very strong and looks up to Rance as her aniki (as in the Yakuza/Simon-Kamina sort of way and not as in oni-chan sort of way). Went to Helman as Crook's guard.
	Pitten Chao - Prince of a small Kingdom in the south of the Free Cities. Is tall and wears golden armour which has high magical resistance. Rance hates him.
	Tokugawa Sen - Formerly a JAPANese Princess, she went to Helman as a mercenary to be able to take part in battles. Enjoys the thrill of fighting in battles where her life is at risk.
	Sanada Tourin - A highly experienced tactician from the JAPANese unification wars. Has a lot of respect for Rance after Rance unified JAPAN. Went to journey in the continent after JAPANese unification and decided to join Rance after finding out Rance needed a tactician from Athena 2.0 who he had befriended.

Logistical Support
	Merci Archa - A teenage girl in charge of organising logistics at the camp. Joined the revolution after Patton rescued her town from bandits.

	Empress Sheila Helman - The young Empress of Helman. Patton's half sister and the daughter of the previous Emperor and his second wife. Said to be extremely beautiful, fucking her is Rance's objective.
	Empress Dowager Pamela Helman - Sheila's mother and the second wife of the previous Emperor. Rules Helman on behalf of Sheila.
	Prime Minister Stessel Romanov - A talented politician who rose through the ranks under the patronage of Pamela. Is the real power behind the Helman government.
    Economic Secretary Bashou Matio - An obese and corrupt man responsible for Helman's economy and budget.
    Commander in Chief of the Military - Kechak Bangor. Young an incompetent and only holds his position because he is Stessel's nephew.
	Tousho Bastet - A three metre tall iron soldier. Stessel's bodyguard and a legacy of the Holy Magic Sect.
	Peruele - Sheila's private maid.
	Shitakku Ruso - Former councilor. Put under House Arrest in Cossack due to opposing Stessel.
	Suba Goya - Former councilor. Put under House Arrest in Cossack due to opposing Stessel.

Helman Military

Total of 310,000 soldiers.

First Army - Based in the city of Mircograd immediately east of the Helman Capital. Is one of two armies responsible for defending the Capital. Has 50,000 soldiers - 42,000 infantry and 8,000 knights. In addition to Micrograd it also operates in Kurov, Parnas and has a garrison in the great Western Bridge.
	General Lelyukov Berkov - An old and experienced veteran soldier and the great rival of Leazas' General Barres.
	Lieutenant Karl Ojizan - Lelyukov's strong and high competent right hand man.
	Pigu Geliciam - A young girl who Lelyukov has been looking after.

Second Army - Based in the extreme west of Helman on the Great Wall which defends Helman from the monster realm. A purely defensive army that has the majority of Helman's soldiers. 150,000. 147,200 infantry, 2,000 monster trainers and 800 knights. Since they are stationed at the wall they normally use bows.
	General Aristoles Calm - A highly intelligent and competent General who is well versed in the art of war which is why he has been entrusted with this extremely important command. Used to be close friends with Prince Patton.
	Lieutenant Convert Tax - A fat and short man who is brilliant at calculations, especially involving money. Has a gregarious personality and is always talking and laughing.

Third Army - Based in Helman's Capital City of Lang Bau. One of two armies responsible for the defending the capital. Made up of Helman's elite troops and can be considered the Imperial Guard. Has 30,000 soldiers - 27,700 infantry, 2,000 monster trainers and 300 knights. In addition to defending the capital is responsible for completing special tasks assigned by the government. Formerly under the command of Hubert's father Thoma, it took part in Patton's failed invasion of Leazas in LP 2 where Thoma was killed by Rance.
	General Mineva Marget - A strong, ruthless and ambitious woman who wield two axes. Can be considered the final 'stronghold' of the Helman Empire in that her defeat would pretty much mean that the Empire has been defeated. Fought Rance during Patton's invasion of Leazas in LP2. Also sent her forces to harvest Kalar crystals in Rance Quest but was foiled by Rance. One of the strongest people in the world.
	Commander Amitos Armitage - A strong and principled commander in the third army. Because of her principles she is very opposed to Minerva.

Fourth Army - Based in the south east of Helman near the Leazas border. Due to it's location it's the frontline of defence from the invasion of any country (Leazas or Zeth). Has 50,000 soldiers - 48,500 infantry, 500 monster trainers and 1000 knights. Has garrisons in Cossack, Borgo Z and Sudori 13. Compared to the other armies it is very under equipped and supplied. Patton has made it his first target.
	General Nero Chapet VII - General in command of the Fourth Army. While he did achieve excellent results in the academy he owes his position to belonging to a very wealthy, noble family. Seeks to use his position to enhance his reputation.
	Lieutenant Cream Ganoblade - A hard working an competent woman who is second in command of the Fourth Army.
    Tokugawa Sen - A JAPANese mercenary hired to be Nero's bodyguard. She is a combat maniac who loves fighting. Acquainted with Rance. Was the princess of the Tokugawa clan. Her nickname is the War Princess'

Fifth Army - A trouble shooting army with no permanent base. Is sent to deal with problems where they arise. Has 10,000 soliders - 9,500 infantry and 500 knights. Pretty laids back and drink a lot
	General Rolex Gadras - The best swordsman in Helman. He uses two swords in battle. Loves to drink and is pretty laid back.
	Lieutenant Oruore the 3rd - Rolex's Lieutenant
	Inspector Cholchotov - an overseer sent by Kechak to oversee Rolex. Has minimal military experience but still tries to order Rolex about. Corrupt and ambitious.

City Guard - 20,000 men nation wide. Just generic guards/police forces in various cities.
	Ruberan Tser - Guard in Borgo Z. Sister of Merim (Rance IV).

Dark Wings - Helman's intelligence/assassination/covert operations organisation. In theory under the command of the Ruling Council but in reality they inform Stessel about everything. Have tried to assassinate Patton for years.
	??? - Brown ninja who appears to be the leader.
	Dark Heron - Ninja in the organisation. Real name unknown.
	Dark Duck - A male sniper who wears full spandex and a duck mask. Real name unknown.

Rance Castle
	Biscuitta Bearns - The Head Maid of Rance Castle.
	Sill Plain - Rance's slave. Currently frozen in ice. There may be an item in the Helman Imperial Treasury which might be able to thaw her.

Leazas - Powerful country that is Helman's main rival. Closely linked with Rance. Kanami, Rick and Tilde have come from here to support Rance.
	Queen Lia Parapara Leazas - The Queen of Leazas who is in love with Rance. Has agreed not to invade Helman during the revolution because Rance asked her not to. Has sent Kanami to follow Rance and later sent Rick and Tilde to help out.
	General Barres Provence - General in command of the Leazas' first army. Has a high opinion of Rance's capabilities.
	Leila Grexney - Commander of the Royal Guard. Is in love with Rick but her love is not returned.

Zeth - A country dominated by mages.
	Nagi su Ragarl - Shizuka's deranged half sister. Wants revenge on Shizuka and has grafted parts of magic beasts to her body to gain more power. Has followed Shizuka to Helman in order to kill Shizuka. But first she wants to kill everyone Shizuka cares for. Appears to slowly be dying due to the grafts.

JAPAN - An island nation to the east of the Free Cities Federation.
	Oda Kou - A young irl who became the leader of JAPAN following the eve

Free Cities - A group of independent city states in the south east of the continent.
	Athena 2.0 - An artificial human created by Frostvine. Is very stupid and acts as Rance's pet dog.

AL Church
	Sachiko Centers - A recoloured Ralga cat with a shield. Was Rance's slave in Rance Quest. Still a school girl. She would have been Crook's guard but she had to sit supplementary exams.

[BBBB] Places and Organisations

Helman Empire - One of the three great nations of the world. A Northern Empire with the world's largest military and population. Has a very corrupt government and poverty is wide spread. The main setting of this game.
	Lang Bau - The Capital city of Helman

Kingdom of Leazas - One of the three great nations of the world. Very wealthy and powerful and is Helman's great rival. The Queen of Leazas is not openly taking advantage of the rebellion due to Rance's request but she has sent some people to help Rance out.

Kingdom of Zeth - One of the three great nations of the world. Dominated by mages. Not involved with the rebellion but during Rance VI it is where Patton and Rance first met and the impression Rance made on Patton has led to Patton requesting Rance lead his rebellion.

Free Cities Federation - A group of independent city states to the south of Leazas. Recently many have become politically dominated by Copandon who is the leader of CITY. Rance hails from the Free States.
	CITY - A major city that now economically and politically dominates much of the Free Cities. Rance Castle is here.
	Ice - A city in the Free Cities where Rance has lived most of his adult live. He still has a house here which is guarded by his pet Athena 2.0

JAPAN - An island nation to  the east of the Free Cities. Recently unified by Rance on behalf of the Oda clan.

AL Church - Headquarters are on an island in the sea/lake between Zeth and the Free Cities. Is the dominant religion on the continent.

Kalar Forrest - A forest bordering Helman and Zeth which is populated by the entirely female Kalar species.

Monster Realm - To the west of Helman and Zeth and ruled by Demons. Demons have been the driving force of most of the events of the series but they are not involved in this game.

[CCCC] Plot Summary
We start off in a remote Helman village near the borders. Hunty, Freak and Hubert are waiting to meet Patton.
Much to Hunty's amusement, Hubert is using a moustache to hide his identity. In addition he has learned to use JAPANese armour and weapons which he got from his father's collection (Thoma going to JAPAN is referenced in Sengoku Rance).
He needs to disguise his identity because Stessel and his allies will expect Hubert to be with Patton.

Patton arrives in the village and meets up with the trio. He has returned early from his journey to recruit Rance. His recruitment mission was a success. Both Freak and Hubert recognise Rance. Hunty doesn't recognise the name and asks a few questions about him. Patton tells her that Rance is just an adventurer and that Hunty had met him back in a forest in Zeth.
Hunty remembers that "green, vulgar person" and is pretty disgruntled and doubtful but Patton tells her that Rance is one of the elite. Hunty decides to trust Patton's judgement.

And now it's time to start the revolution. Hunty and Freak have to go off and do their parts while Patton and Hubert will soon move off to meet with Rance.

[DDDD] Heroine Sex Scenes

The seven main heroines have sex scenes which get unlocked outside the normal gameplay using monkey orbs. Russian has 5 scenes (plus variants) while the others have four. It takes three monkey orbs to unlock a sex scene and then a further orb for each variation. Monkey orbs can be obtained in battles but there are limited number of them but if you aim at the same heroines you can probably do all the routes in two playthroughs.

Because of how they're accessed it's hard to pinpoint a chronological timeframe for them but it's probably best to assume that they happened in canon as soon as the plot progressed enough for them to be unlocked. I'll cover them here instead.
