Madison police are investigating reports of shots fired outside of West Towne Mall on Saturday evening.

No injuries have been reported.

Officers responded to a call at 5:37 p.m. and were searching for possible suspects, authorities said.

Police were in the process of clearing the mall at around 6 p.m.

A shopper said police came into the mall with guns drawn as people rushed to exit.

Another shopper said businesses inside the mall had closed their metal gates and people were being asked to remain inside while police went through the building.

Sue Dyhr of Oregon was shopping at Boston Store and said that all the shoppers were told to gather near the middle of the store and were not allowed to leave.

"There's no panic," she said. "Everyone's just milling around and trying to find out what's happening."
