  1. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:28 AM
  2. Ready to begin?
  3. Cake - Last Monday at 11:28 AM
  4. yes
  5. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:30 AM
  6. Okay. Most of the following questions will be posed in the classic, "What would you do in this scenario," type format. Simply answer them how you see fit, in whatever methodical approach you see fit. Some of the more expansive questions will have additional details to them if you explicitly ask for them. Many of these are designed to give the other modmins insight into how you handle issues, as well as a passing glance at your judgement.
  7. First question, when you're ready.
  8. Cake - Last Monday at 11:31 AM
  9. i'm ready
  10. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:32 AM
  11. A character joins named, "Oprah Winfrey," a 30 year old bald assistant. The database kicks back a player age of 2 for their time on the server. They immediately run for a toolbox, and begin dragging around a fueltank. What do you do?
  12. Cake - Last Monday at 11:34 AM
  13. first, i'd inform them that reference names are against the server rules, and that their name is not allowed and will have to be changed - ask them for a different name and have an admin change it if possible. i'd also ask them if they've read our server's rules
  14. as for the welding tank, i'd only go for preemptive punishment if they started reaching for a welding tool
  15. and by that i mean winding
  16. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:34 AM
  17. Good. Next question.
  18. You recieve an adminhelp from a regular player on the server stating that they have been permabrigged for no reason, and that the officer that moved them in never said anything. How do you respond?
  19. Cake - Last Monday at 11:37 AM
  20. i'd ask the player of the prisoner for the name of the officer first, note it, and then ask them about any further interaction they had with the officer
  21. then i'd ask the officer about the prisoner, if they actually did anything wrong
  22. or, rather, what they did that the officer saw fit to place them in permenant holding
  23. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:39 AM
  24. The officer, whom you do not recognize, states he was ordered to do so by the warden. After checking, you discover the warden has cryo'd.
  25. Cake - Last Monday at 11:40 AM
  26. ask the officer if the warden told him anything other than to arrest the prisoner and place them in permenant holding, and maybe try to review logs prior to their placement in holding
  27. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:43 AM
  28. You, as a moderator, do not have access to advanced logs and you are without an admin. The officer states he was simply told to place them in permanent holding, and that's all you know. They don't have an arrest warrant, and to the officer's knowledge, no evidence was raised.
  29. Cake - Last Monday at 11:44 AM
  30. has the prisoner responded to my question about previous interactions with the officer?
  31. perhaps, i should've asked about security, and not just the officer alone
  32. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:45 AM
  33. They state that just walked up and clocked him upside the head with a stun baton, no interactions with security beforehand.
  34. Cake - Last Monday at 11:46 AM
  35. are there any other members of security active?
  36. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:46 AM
  37. A cadet and a, to your knowledge, uninvolved officer, hanging out in the bar.
  38. Cake - Last Monday at 11:48 AM
  39. regardless, the second officer should have a security radio headset and might recall anything else the warden said, so i'd ping him real quick and ask him if he knows anything about any orders the warden has given for any permenant detentions
  40. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:48 AM
  41. Nada.
  42. Cake - Last Monday at 11:49 AM
  43. is the warden stored, or simply in the pod?
  44. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:49 AM
  45. Stored, wrapped and gone, not even on the player panel.
  46. Cake - Last Monday at 11:49 AM
  47. what is the round type?
  48. if i'm being too thorough, let me know :P
  49. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:51 AM
  50. Not at all. If there's something to be seen, most modmins want to see it. Being thorough is a good trait for investigating.
  51. It's traitor, but no one you're dealing with is remotely involved in the antag.
  52. Cake - Last Monday at 11:51 AM
  53. so, that must mean the warden was not an antag
  54. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:52 AM
  55. Precisely.
  56. Nor anyone else named so far.
  57. No command either.
  58. Cake - Last Monday at 11:53 AM
  59. considering the evidence presented, and as much information as i've gained, i'll come to the conclusion that the warden had little reason to order permenant detention and suggest that the officer both ask in character about the previous warden, and that the prisoner be released
  60. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:54 AM
  61. Noted. Okay.
  62. You're in the lobby, working on your characters late at night on deadhour, alone. Suddenly, you're spammed with attack logs. Two origins, one being a security regular you recognize, but haven't spoken to at all. You and no one else in staff have really talked about them. The other, you don't recognize at all. They are firing weapons with lethal projectiles at one another. Go.
  63. Cake - Last Monday at 11:58 AM
  64. i'd first check the round type and player panel
  65. as one, or both of them, could be antagonists
  66. Serveris - Last Monday at 11:58 AM
  67. Wizard. Neither are antags.
  68. One is a warden, the one you recognize is an officer.
  69. Cake - Last Monday at 12:00 PM
  70. what is the age of the warden's account?
  71. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:00 PM
  72. 17.
  73. Cake - Last Monday at 12:01 PM
  74. is that in days?
  75. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:01 PM
  76. For reference, last I checked.
  77. Cake - Last Monday at 12:01 PM
  78. i don't know if that was a yes or no
  79. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:02 PM
  80. CakeIsOssim/(CakeIsOssim): account is 568 days old
  81. How player ages are displayed.
  82. Cake - Last Monday at 12:03 PM
  83. okay
  84. i'd ping the both of them, wondering about provaction for firing at each other
  85. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:04 PM
  86. Both give the same response, "He shot me first."
  87. Cake - Last Monday at 12:05 PM
  88. how long into the round is it? what's the wizard doing?
  89. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:06 PM
  90. Lying in a body bag. Two hours in.
  91. Cake - Last Monday at 12:06 PM
  92. i ask both the officer and warden to be more specific, politely - what they were doing that lead up to shooting at each other
  93. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:08 PM
  94. The officer was walking down fore primary, he states, and the warden states he was on the way down to the bar, from the brig.
  95. Both would have been leaving the security lobby.
  96. By these statements, at least.
  97. Cake - Last Monday at 12:10 PM
  98. ask both of them if they fired accidentally
  99. or, if they even had their weapons out to begin with
  100. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:11 PM
  101. Again, mirrored responses. "No, I only shot after he shot me." "He just pulled his gun out and shot me."
  102. Cake - Last Monday at 12:12 PM
  103. are there any other staff online?
  104. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:13 PM
  105. You're in the lobby, working on your characters late at night on deadhour, alone.
  106. Cake - Last Monday at 12:13 PM
  107. oh, right
  108. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:19 PM
  109. Your move.
  110. Cake - Last Monday at 12:19 PM
  111. ask them if they're absolutely certain it wasn't an accident
  112. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:19 PM
  113. Both are sure.
  114. Cake - Last Monday at 12:22 PM
  115. i have to assume that one of them is either grossly misinformed, or grossly misinforming me, because there's no way they could have just started shooting at eachother, unprovoked, without the intention of grief
  116. there are no previous attack logs before this?
  117. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:23 PM
  118. Not between them.
  119. Cake - Last Monday at 12:23 PM
  120. have they attacked anyone else other than each otheR?
  121. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:24 PM
  122. The officer you know is showing logs of having tasered, batonned, and handcuffed people. Shot the wizard a couple times with lethals. Looks like normal security stuff. The warden as well.
  123. Normal arrest stuff.
  124. Uncuffing people.
  125. Cake - Last Monday at 12:25 PM
  126. do either of them have notes?
  127. thinking about it, i can't believe i didn't think of that before
  128. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:26 PM
  129. Nope. The officer has an older note. Expired warning for metagaming a year ago.
  130. Cake - Last Monday at 12:29 PM
  131. am i aware of anyone else that was nearby or saw/heard of the incident?
  132. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:30 PM
  133. You've been in the lobby all round.
  134. Making Centurion look good.
  135. Not paying attention much.
  136. Cake - Last Monday at 12:31 PM
  137. okay... since i'm not getting anything more than mirrored responses out of the two of them, is there anyone else in security online?
  138. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:31 PM
  139. A HoS and two other officers, we'll say.
  140. Cake - Last Monday at 12:33 PM
  141. i'd ask them if they've seen the warden and officer in question fight or otherwise be issues at all since they were present in the round
  142. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:34 PM
  143. There we are. The warden disagreed with the use of lethal force and the officer using lethals against the wizard, and threatened to arrest the officer for murder, is the general consensus from those you speak with.
  144. Cake - Last Monday at 12:35 PM
  145. so, i was lied to
  146. or, at least, a lie of omittance
  147. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:35 PM
  148. Important to ask the right questions.
  149. Cake - Last Monday at 12:36 PM
  150. i did ask if they were provoked, but perhaps i should've been more specific
  151. anyway, i'd go back to the officer and warden and ask them about the disagreement between using lethals
  152. since it appears both of them fired at the same time, there could've been more tension than what i saw before i got involved
  153. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:39 PM
  154. The warden seems to disagree with the HoS arming the officer and allowing them to kill the wizard.
  155. The other officer insists he was just doing his job.
  156. Cake - Last Monday at 12:40 PM
  157. and the warden threatened to arrest the officer?
  158. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:41 PM
  159. The officers and HoS confirm this was over comms.
  160. Cake - Last Monday at 12:41 PM
  161. then, it appears they escalated to deadly force at the same time with the officer trying to defend himself and the warden just generally fed up
  162. i would inform the both of them that escalating to deadly force should not be the first option, especially over a disagreement that could've been solved involving their respective head of staff
  163. i don't think i would leave a warning, but perhaps a note for the both of them that would read out about how they resorted to using lethal weapons upon the first interaction with each other personally
  164. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:46 PM
  165. Alrighty.
  166. A player adminhelps that a player you know very well and consider a friend is powergaming. A cursory check shows the player that adminhelped is a nuke op. The player in question is an engineer, and have fabricated a spear, crossbow, an improvised shotgun, and gotten their hands on various other odds and ends that could be considered weapons or armor. They are currently engaged in combat with the nuke team on the engineering outpost, and based on what you see from aghosting and attack logs, they are winning. Three nuke ops are lying dead in pools of blood, one is currently incapacitated and dying quickly due to their injuries, and the last one, whom adminhelped, is wounded badly but still putting up a fight. You have no doubt he will be finished off within a minute if combat continues. Go.
  167. Cake - Last Monday at 12:51 PM
  168. ping the engineer, first question would be if they were hiding, or if they went looking for the operatives
  169. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:52 PM
  170. They report they were on the engineering outpost to set up some equipment when the nuke ops came.
  171. They claim self defense.
  172. Cake - Last Monday at 12:52 PM
  173. is the surviving operative running away?
  174. or at least, attempting to
  175. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:53 PM
  176. Still fighting. Another couple hits and he's going to go down.
  177. The engineer is relatively unscathed.
  178. Cake - Last Monday at 12:54 PM
  179. do i have the ability to check the engineer's skills?
  180. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:55 PM
  181. You do. Skills typical of an engineer. Nothing interdepartmental. I presume you want to know if they're trained in hand to hand or marksmanship. They are not, according to their chart.
  182. Cake - Last Monday at 12:55 PM
  183. notes?
  184. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:56 PM
  185. Odds and ends, nothing with malicious intent.
  186. Mostly just mistakes, no major rule violations.
  187. You've never known your friend to cause problems.
  188. Cake - Last Monday at 12:58 PM
  189. my friend, the engineer, is unscathed, but managed to kill three operatives and soon to be four
  190. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:58 PM
  191. Five.
  192. Cake - Last Monday at 12:58 PM
  193. i'll ask them how their engineer managed to pull that off without any experience in security, hand to hand, or combat
  194. yes, five
  195. even worse
  196. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:58 PM
  197. Three dead. One dying. One fighting.
  198. He'd state he knocked down one or two, grabbed their weapons, and kept trying to fight them off.
  199. Cake - Last Monday at 12:59 PM
  200. how did he knock them down?
  201. Serveris - Last Monday at 12:59 PM
  202. He does have improvised weapons.
  203. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:00 PM
  204. Steel spear. A crossbow. An improvised shotgun loaded in slugs.
  205. Cake - Last Monday at 1:02 PM
  206. i'd try to ask the other operatives, the ones that died and the one currently dying, how they were downed and/or killed
  207. a crossbow is only good for one bolt, and they'd have to be near a wall to get pinned
  208. none of those other weapons knock people down on the first shot
  209. without getting close, which would mean rushing people with guns, with the spear
  210. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:09 PM
  211. First op was pinned. Said the engineer grabbed his STS-35 and magdumped the shit out of him. Second threw a flashbang, knocked down the engineer, attempted a coup de grace via esword.
  212. Engineer got up, put a spear through his hand, scoring a fracture, then killed him with his own sword.
  213. Third one states he got too close and was disarmed, beheaded. Fourth took the shotgun pointblank and instantly fell into paincrit, is pretty sure he has internal bleeding and organ damage. He's dying.
  214. All of this seems to be supported by attack logs.
  215. Cake - Last Monday at 1:11 PM
  216. this appears to be a case of "i'm losing, therefor powergaming"
  217. the engineer was not cornered?
  218. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:12 PM
  219. They probably could have escaped back to the station with the shuttle if they made an effort.
  220. The first two pursued him, but after they were taken care of, he had some breathing room.
  221. Cake - Last Monday at 1:13 PM
  222. so the final three didn't directly try to assault the engineer again, but didn't appear to make an effort to get away?
  223. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:13 PM
  224. They thought he would've been an easy kill.
  225. Afterall, he's an engineer. Not a security officer.
  226. They didn't expect him to be packing heat.
  227. Cake - Last Monday at 1:16 PM
  228. it seems like the engineer just had luck on his side in a perhaps-not-so-hopelessly stacked fight
  229. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:17 PM
  230. Alright. So to wrap up the question, you?..
  231. Cake - Last Monday at 1:18 PM
  232. i write it off as not powergaming, but considering there was an opening to attempt escape and not continue fighting, talk to the engineer about not going for valids even if they're perfectly capable of doing so
  233. they aren't trained in combat
  234. it was, however, a tricky situation
  235. since attempting escape was not a guarantee
  236. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:25 PM
  237. Alrighty. On a closing note.
  238. I find it interesting how you didn't inquire into the weapons.
  239. Someone claims they were there to do work, but were conveniently ambushed off-station, and conveniently had several weapons on them by the time the fighting started.
  240. Cake - Last Monday at 1:26 PM
  241. eh
  242. i don't know if it's a bad thing to not question it, but engineers building makeshift weapons is an uphill battle
  243. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:26 PM
  244. We'll move along, though.
  245. Cake - Last Monday at 1:27 PM
  246. i understand what you're trying to say, but with no previous history of validhunting or powergaming, and since i know them personally, it's unlikely they had the weapons prior to going to the outpost
  247. so it's more likely they just built it quickly
  248. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:27 PM
  249. Mmhm. Next question.
  250. Congratulations. You've been promoted to moderator after finishing your trial! An administrator contacts you one day over msay, and shares that after a discussion with the head administrator and other admins, they want you to brave the cold loneliness of deadhour with another long-standing administrator of around a year. You accept. A month goes by, and you after the first few days, begin to notice a few things about your partner. They have a tendancy to spawn things for their own use, jump to antagonists quite a lot, and have even used their powers to destabalize conflict, ie, winding people mid-combat for coup to degrace finishers, spawning themselves weapons, reviving themselves mid-combat, and sabotaging security's weapons via verbs. They appear to do these things quite commonly when you're online, but never comment on it. You share your observations with a few other moderators, and they are unable to confirm this; they state they haven't seen any of this, and that they believe the admin is a pretty cool dude. They can't see them doing something like this. What do you do?
  251. Cake - Last Monday at 1:39 PM
  252. first, i need to collect proof
  253. screenshots, logs, anything
  254. once i've got that, take it to the rest of the staff, preferably the higher ups such as the headmin
  255. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:40 PM
  256. Alright. Good.
  257. Next. Would you be interested in carrying out any forums specific duties? Managing unban requests? Player complaints? (this is funny, directing at a forum mod.)
  258. Cake - Last Monday at 1:42 PM
  259. i don't really have any specific requests, but if there's a position that needs to be filled or needs extra help, i'm always game
  260. and, yes, if there's anywhere else that just needs a general lookover every so often, i pretty much already do that
  261. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:44 PM
  262. What are your preferred cases to handle? Which would you prefer to avoid?
  263. Cake - Last Monday at 1:45 PM
  264. i'd honestly prefer to avoid complaints and applications, but i prefer looking over suggestions
  265. the thing about suggestions is it's usually developer field
  266. aaaand since i also have an application present for spriter, i suppose i'll be looking through there anyway
  267. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:46 PM
  268. I was referring server side.
  269. Cake - Last Monday at 1:46 PM
  270. ooh
  271. cases involving assistance with mechanics (at least, to the best of my ability), synthetic law questions/complaints, and cases where a bit of digging and questioning might be involved would all be my preferred things to handle
  272. as for avoiding, i can't really think of anything
  273. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:52 PM
  274. Alrighty.
  275. Closing question.
  276. The purpose of interviews, as stated at the beginning, are for staff review.
  277. It's up to you whether you want just us seeing them.
  278. Would you like them posted to your app, though?
  279. Cake - Last Monday at 1:54 PM
  280. yes
  281. i'm applying to moderate a community, i think the community has a right to insight in how i will perform and operate
  282. Serveris - Last Monday at 1:54 PM
  283. Alright. Good.
  284. That concludes the interview, then.
