  3. I tested a lot this mod in many situations. I was started with cyanogenmod, then AOKP and AOSP. I confirm that in each case you can feel the true power of volume and bass enhancement. So read these tips with easy and don't bother me if you encounter any issues.
  4.
  5. In my personal experience theres no mandatory ROM or something else, but I suggest to keep an eye on kernel. I used a lot of kernels and my favorites are AK or Franco since both enables the volume boost and audio performance.
  6. Also I use Noozy to play music and the following tips are based on Noozy + EIZO experience. Sometime I tested the mod with Apollo and PlayerPRO, but I didn't liked them (and many settings did not worked well).
  7.
  8. So in order to test by yourself all of those settings, you have to install at least a kernel with these feature:
  9. High performance sound
  10. Headphone volume boost
  11. Is really easy to check these features, just install trickster mod (free) and check it in SPECIFIC tab.
  12. With many ROM the "High performance sound" feature is not realiable since OFF and ON value doesn't change anything (and in some case they are inverted). So try yourself this setting.
  13. The Headphone volume boost is quite important if you use earphone for calling too, since boost your incall volume. I suggest to put it on value 2 or 3.
  14.
  15. NB: both parameters aren't mandatory and sometimes (or never), like during call, may waste (or improve) your microphone output!
  16.
  17.
  18. FIRST STEP
  19.
  20. Read the installation guide and how to test the mod.
  21.
  22.
  23. SECOND STEP
  24.
  25. Once everything is installed, go to "settings --> sound --> music effects" and select Noozxoide EIZO-rewire PRO series. If an alert appear (like "MuiscFX has stopped") don't worry and keep going.
  26.
  27.
  28. THIRD STEP
  29.
  30. To appreciate the great EIZO experience is necessary to hold a good pair of earphone. Why this? Because low level earphone probably got a very low level impedence, highest peak in frequency response ecc ecc.
  31. A 10€ earphone could be great as well as worst, you can spent 50€ to test 5 pairs of them and realize that only one of them is good but not too much.
  32. So I suggest to choose from Sennheiser, AKG, Beats and Bose. Prize is between 20 to 100 and more €, depends on what trademark you choose. Obviously Beat and Bose will defeat your wallet! But is trademark matter? Of course is not.
  33.
  34. A great earphone must respect the following parameters:
  35. Frequency response: between 20 and 20.000 Hz - Human ear can hear only these frequencies range. Someone could hear 21.000 - 25.000 but is a really small part. A good earphone must stay in this range (ie: 18-20K in good too, but 10-26K is the worst ever).
  36. Also, human ear can't hear the bass but we can "feel" a vibrating sensation, like something is beating on our ears. I'll introduce these feature in the next points
  37. Impedance: the lower the better, but with a lowerbound. I mean, between 16-18 ohms is good but a 14 isn't! Less ohms = more volume = more noise! The 16-18 range is perfect. But what if it get high? Suppose we got a 55 ohms headphone and we can only use them with a smartphone. The line out of this one is not amplified like a true amplifier (think about Onkyo or Panasonic), so you need a great amplified line to hear a great volume. Indeed if you choose a headphone pair beware the ohms parameter!
  38. SPL/V Sound pressure level: depends on earphone/headphone. Normally earphone must be on 105-120dB. If google on this parameter you'll see a lot of important things to know. For now the only important information you need is that maximum SPL is frequency-dependent --> lower frequencies are harder to reproduce at high levels.
  39. THD, total harmonic distortion: a lot to say, keep in mind this: the lower the better. Because you can get a minor noise quantity in output (this is why in a studio mix is important to use headphone like AKG for the lower THD). A good value is < 0,5% more or less.
  40.
  41. Conclusion: omitting the trademark just for now, I consider earphones the best sound-solution for smartphone instead of headphone because they keep the impedence near a good value while maintaining noise reduction and good frequencies range. If you mind to buy a headphone pair just keep in mind the values above. Don't waste your money for trademark like Beats, Bose or Sennheiser/AKG top quality. Medium quality is good for you. Remember: you got a phone!!! Not a HI-FI! In addition to waste your money, you will never take advantage from this hardware.
  42.
  43.
  44. FOURTH STEP
  45.
  46. As I said above, I use the Noozy+EIZO experience so the next tips are based on this couple:
  47. Open Noozy
  48. Go to Settings
  49. Disable "Use lockscreen controls"
  50. Disable "Noozxoide balanced X-EQ Processor"
  51. Disable "Noozxoide LogicSorround ES Processor"
  52. Disable "Noozxoide Psychoacoustic II Processor"
  53.
  54.
  55.
  56. FIFTH STEP
  57.
  58. Once you choosed the earphone and configured Noozy, you have to "play" with EIZO parameters setting. So, open Noozxoide EIZO-rewire PRO series and choose "Line-out audio monitor":
  59. Soft clipping compressor... --> OFF
  60. Select Effect Strength --> if compressor is OFF this won't take effect
  61. Increase the monitor size with added... --> ON (this option is the real bass enhancement experience. It doesn't boost your bass like an EQ, but increase the low frequencies attack. This mean that you will hear a deep bass while a drum is played, thin about Metal/Rock. But in many case it may over-enhance the bass attack, think about Hardcore/Techno music. So turn it ON/OFF as you wish, play the music in background and switch the next parameter)
  62. Select Effetct Strength --> I suggest Large II for Metal/Rock and Large for elctro music (but switch as you wish)
  63. Deliver balanced natural soundstage --> ON (and see next parameter)
  64. Digital Presets --> Custom, I mean click on graph. Select the following value: 10.0, 10.0, 3.0, 2.5, 4.4. These settings are good for every kind of music, just change the second and the last one (MID frequencies are good in any case, especially Rock music)
  65. Noozxoide VE-Engine --> Strongest, if you hear to much noise then select Weak
  66. Create VSUR... --> ON/OFF, as you wish (I suggest OFF for Rock, ON for Techno)
  67. Create room size --> Live II or Focus (as you wish)
  68. If you can't feel the difference, check again FIRST, SECOND and FOURTH steps. Must be work!!!
  69.
  70. This five steps are based on my experience, I hope you enjoy the best enhancement (you won't turn back!!!)
