Sun beats down fields
wanderer strolling through seemingly unending pasture
horizon broken by strangling woodland
journey taking through familiar trees
Suffocating humidity, sweat, light dimming as night approaches
scurrying shadows, creepy figures build on uneasy atmosphere (owls slowly blinking, big eyes glowing in the shadows for only brief moments before disappearing
far off cries of animals, pack of formless animals (wolf-base)
brisk pace, seeming miles of forest, grown since last visit
growls, snarls closing in, loud rustling, take out knife
single wolf attacks, miss by a hair's breadth, others join in
owl imagery overlooking fight
shadows dancing around wanderer, taking small hits at him
knife finally sinks into one wolf, rolls to the ground
shadowed figure fades
surprise as no sign of any engagement happens, clothes are fine, howling far off
continue journey, mildly shaken and doubting what's going on
morning sunlight filters through trees here and there, sit under a tree for a rest
wake draped in snake, python threatening to suffocate
slowly reaches for knife, staring the snake down, sudden movement causes the snake to tense as coils continue to wrap around
sharp jab upward through snake head causes it to go limp, crawls out of snake coils
continue on as dusk settles
howls are closer again, pick up the pace
trip occasionally, branch out of nowhere hits, forest seemed to mock him for a fool
forest much larger than he remembers
two days two nights same thing, maddening that no progress seemed to be made
next night started off by howls and growling nearby
turns to face the beasts head on, reaches for knife, realizes he left the knife in the snake.
Bright eyes of owls vanish as silhouettes show them flying towards the wolves, only to be taken out mid flight by the beasts
no sound of feeding, seek to kill for sport
panic as sound grows louder, no way to defend himself
consumed in panic, begins running through forest
trips and snags, clothes torn, losing ground
trees twisting, all against him, harder to breathe
head and heart pounding, ground itself seems to give way to mud, sucking his feet in and trapping him
predators catch up to him, circle, one in front has fangs bared and bloody from owl, feathers in fur
attack, world becomes clear as wanderer saved by a bear (life, love/family instinct) too late
