We set off today to see what we could do about the Kallick. I guess they have been fairly aggressive, with almost daily attacks or attempted raids. The Elves will have to be next, though I feel like they are less likely to be warlike. Thankfully with magic we can travel fairly fast, otherwise we could have been up to a month travelling back and forth, instead taking only days to reach their last location. It seems to be some sort of Dwarven fortress that was abandoned at some point.
We sent Lili and Randidily in to scout under some invisibility magic supplied by yours truly. They were able to discover a large horde of Kallick inside and a magic portal that definitely piqued or interest. Once we reunited and conversed, we figured it was our best bet to approach them amicably, and I sent a flare into the sky to signal them.
It took some negotiating with their leader, but we discovered they were using the portal to travel to random places and return with kidnapped children they were using to eat. Judging by the amount of bones in this room they had been doing so for quite a while. I figured out a way to disable the portal, and actually remove it, and possibly program it for our own future use, but we had to leave it behind. The Kallick leader was enraged when he noticed it was missing.
Brook was able to come to an agreement with them, and even got some captives released into our care, as well as a pile of what the Kallick considered useless treasure. In return we are going to provide them with some food, and then teach them farming techniques, and hope to try and help them control their population. If all goes well we should be able to remove the portal from the fortress in the end, and somewhat domesticate them, keeping them from rampaging and pillaging.
Only time will tell…
The prisoners we brought back with us are apparently from an adventuring group that the others know of. They are all new faces to myself, since I was stuck in that damned shadow dungeon for so many years. Oh, and two of them are actual prisoners. One is from Malchizidek and another from Brattsholt. I guess the Dwarf fled from the town and was trapped and captured by the Kallick. I wasn’t really paying attention to the others much, except this one Elf with pink hair, Eretreia. I want to do things to her that would make my Momma call me shameful.
