  85.
  86. >What is Space Engine?
  87. Space Engine is technically a simulator (but don't let /v/ get to you saying it's not a videogame), you basically are given a really big fraction of the universe (Virgo Supercluster) where you can visit any place you want.
  88. Many locations are real, however since we just lack the knowledge, the /unknown/ parts of the universe are procedurally generated. Much like the planets' textures and terrain.
  89.
  90. >What can I find in Space Engine?
  91. So far you will find Galaxies, magellanic clouds, and clusters of stars. Star systems (single and binary, as well as some tri-sol systems), supernovae and supernovae event resulting stars such as Pulsar, Neutron Stars...
  92. Most of the kind of regular stars, dwarven stars and really big stars. Planets which are mostly comprised of Terran, Gas Giants, Desert, Selena, Frozen Giants or simply Rocks without any kind of atmosphere. Asteroids, and newly you can also find comets.
  93. Planets will have many different kinds of surfaces and they can also have aurorae now.
  94.
  95. >But does it end?
  96. Yes, there's an "end" to the universe in Space Engine, although technically Space Engine only represents the Virgo Supercluster, and universe is thought to be roughly ten thousand times bigger than that.
  97. Still a thing worth seeing, dots are galaxies and they slowly fade to darkness until you see nothing.
  98.
  99. >How do I take screenshots?
  100. Use the F11 key for a HUDless screenshot.
  101.
  102. >Can I manipulate time?
  103. Yes you can, fast forward, reverse, pause are the things you can do. Use them to see the orbits of planets go by, or take cool screenshots when they align.
  104.
  105. >Can I land on planets? How?
  106. Yes, with a double tap to the G key you'll land on planets.
  107. Be patient and wait for the engine to generate the planet's surface.
  108.
  109. >Why is my game crashing?
  110. Most likely it is because you have the LOD set to 1 or 2 when traveling. Make sure to have it set to 0 or -1 for moving around.
  111. Make sure your machine fills the minimal specs required, if you have under 2GB of ram you can NOT play Space Engine.
  112.
  113. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  114. /* Config Tips */
  115.
  116. As of 0.9.7.1, it is reccomended that you set processor core affinity to one less than the total cars. Otherwise SE will eat all your processing power to move the entire fucking universe. And thats bad.
  117.
  118. Basic Guide to not shit screenshots:
  119.
  120. -Set to LOD 2
  121. -Exit Space Engine
  122. -Go to "config" folder then "main.cfg"
  123. -Look under "memory settings", it should be one of the first few sections
  124. -Make sure "VideoMemoryDynamicDetect" is set to "false"
  125. -Change your "VideoMemorySize" the number of megabytes you want the game to use (ex. "3000" equals 3 gigabytes)
  126. -Change "VideoMemoryMaxPercent" to something like "98" or however much video memory you want the game to use (in percent, so the "98" equals 98%)
  127. -Don't touch the other 2 lines below "VideoMemoryMaxPercent"
  128. -Save & exit
  129. -Launch Space Engine
  130.
  131. These last worked on 0.96. Since there's been so many changes, they need revising.
  132.
  133. >(Space Engine folder)\config\main.cfg
  134.
  135. To improve stability :
  136. // memory settings
  137. VideoMemorySize 4096 // video card onboard memory (VRAM) in megabytes
  138. VideoMemoryMaxPercent 90 // max VRAM consumption (percents)
  139. VideoMemoryStartupDetect false // use auto detection of VRAM size on startup, otherwise use VideoMemorySize value
  140. VideoMemoryDynamicDetect false // use auto detection of available amount of VRAM in runtime
  141. GalaxySysModelCacheSize 5 // do not change this!
  142. ClusterStarModelCacheSize 200 // do not change this!
  143.
  144. To improve detail (must have high end PC) :
  145. // planets settings

  148. PlanetCubeMeshLOD 5 // landscape meshes detail
