To a certain extent we can blame Trump's election on Tom Jefferson, et al. The Electoral College is a patrician dinosaur the Founders enacted to ensure government would always be in the hands of wealthy white landowners, not the rabble. It gave us Bush and Trump, since Both lost the popular vote. Due to gerrymandering, which the Dems have been very feeble at opposing, the GOP benefits from the Electoral College much more than the Dems.
