  1. So I just finished reading the the mechanics of the Atlas and it raises some concerns. ( https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1714099 )
  2.
  3. In short, players are not able to reset or remove completed maps from the Atlas and this causes huge issues with players.
  4.
  5. The Atlas works with these rules:
  6.
  7. - Atlas is shared between characters in a League
  8. - Any Map can drop any of the four T1 Maps
  9. - Any Map can drop any adjacent Map on the Atlas
  10. - A completed map can drop in any Map as long as it is within the rules of being Map tier +1 (or +2 from boss) with the exception of lockboxes
  11. - A map is completed once the boss(es) are killed, or opening a unique chest if there are no bosses.
  12. - Quantity bonus of 1%+ per Map after killing the boss in t1-t5, killing boss in rare t6-t10 and killing boss in corrupted rare t11+
  13.
  14. So these are the rules as understood, now to bring up the issues:
  15.
  16. -If the advantage of the Atlas is to create a Map system specific to builds or playstyle, when creating new characters; or progressing through the Atlas longer, this feature dilutes itself
  17.
  18. -The concept of using the Atlas to focus farm for a specific bases that drops in a Map will only be true for the first character; beyond this character Maps will become as random as they are now
  19.
  20. -For players who are trying to gain as much experience per hour, the new Atlas system encourages only “completing” Maps with efficient layouts to guarantee efficient returns (example if your only Completed T13 is Gorge since tier is rolled first, a T13 Map is guaranteed to be Gorge). A player can then buy Maps with efficient layouts and 100% control all Map drops; but if a player does not know this beforehand, their explored Atlas will make such use of the Atlas tool IMPOSSIBLE until the next League. This is permanent punishment to anyone who simply is unaware of how to “abuse” the Atlas system before they start mapping.
  21.
  22. -The consequence of an Atlas that cannot be reset and is shared across all characters in a League; does not promote creating a personalized Atlas, but however a homogenized Atlas that fills itself out over time. This system makes it impossible to take any advantage of the Atlas layout once a player learns enough about the Atlas to benefit beyond RNG, only pre-researched Atlas’ will have any benefit.
  23.
  24. -The current Atlas seems to punish any player who wants to play vastly different characters for absolutely no reason at all. A player who feels their Atlas is more or less ruined can quit and wait for a new League and new Atlas or worse quit entirely.
  25. In an example let's have 2 different characters with different goals:
  26.
  27. 1) Experience farmer
  28. 2) Item base famer (new maps have new bases)
  29.
  30. If you shape your Atlas for optimizing good layouts for experience, it hurts the item base farmer, because you can't complete some maps (or upgrade) as they would make changes to the Atlas' map drops.
  31.
  32.
  33. Possible solutions:
  34.
  35. Players can reset the Atlas completely for a cost.
  36. -Allows players to re-construct an Atlas for a specific purpose, or a new character
  37. -Prevents players being punished permanently for learning the Atlas
  38. -Keep in mind if the cost is too high(read restrictive) this remains a punishment for not pre-researching the Atlas system, rather than a tool to improve player experience
  39. -This is most likely the simplest solution to the problem
  40.
  41. Players can “scour” completed Maps from the Atlas
  42. -This is a more specific and powerful tool than a pure reset as stated above
  43.
  44. Zana can sell alternate “fresh” Atlas’
  45. -This means players can create multiple Atlas’ for utility on one or many characters
  46. -The downside would be there would be less consequence to the decision on an Atlas long term, but can be adjusted through high cost of extra Atlas
  47.
  48. Each character has an independent Atlas
  49. -As each character has a purpose it will allow the Atlas to be tuned to their purpose; however this seems to be problematic long term as perm league characters can brick the Atlas
  50. -This is a short term solution but does not solve all the problems as the previous 3 options can
  51.
  52. Complete Atlas once, be able to customize multiple Atlas' after
  53. - Would make people want to complete it atleast once
