A group of my friends and I have been considering trying to start a club for the online MOBA League of Legends, and we were wondering if you would be able to become the club adviser.  While it may seem silly to incorporate a game that you may have never heard about into an after school club, with more than 67 million active users, it's more than a game, it's a lifestyle.  League of legends is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena)  that is played worldwide from America to Australia.  In this game, you compete with other people (summoners) who use champions (basically a funny word for characters) to battle each other.  There are multiple maps with different game modes, but by far the most popular is Summoner's Rift; a 5 on 5 match on a map with 3 lanes.

  With these 5 characters, there are a lot of variables on how they would be used.  Most like to set up 1 champion in top lane, 1 in the jungle (the area between top, mid lane and mid, bot lane), 1 in the middle lane, and 2 in the bottom lane. All of these lanes have their own unique names as well.  IN order for a certain team of 5 to win a game, they have to have good team work.  They need to communicate with alerts called pings that signal advice such as: An enemy is missing, so and so is asking for assistance, so and so signals to be careful.  There are also objects called wards that give vision of the map so you are aware of where the other team may be heading at a certain time.  Learning how to master using these pings and wards are crucial to playing League of Legends.  This makes professional teams very successful because they have mastered warding and pinging, while being able to keep control of their lane and watch the map.

It's a very complicated game that takes a lot o time and effort to fall in love with, and many students here ant Lenape High School have.  Whenever us students can, we're playing our favorite champions on Summoner's Rift, many of us daily.  There is even a professional League of Legends league us fanatics like to call the LCS (League of Legends Championship Series).  There a ton of teams that have gone professional in seeks to win the gold at the championship us vivid fans called Worlds.  Worlds in the Super Bowl of League of Legends.  The competition had been recently completed with the team Samsung White (Korea) defeating Star Horn Royal Club (China) by a final score of 3-1 in a best of 5 games series.  The event located in South Korea filled Seoul Stadium with over 40 thousand fans.  This may not seem like too many people, but compared to the number of people who watch from their home, which was more than 32 million last year, that's nothing.  It is currently the most popular video game on Earth.
