  1. "Excuse me, but I do not want to be an Emperor, that's not my goal. I do not want to rule or conquer anyone.
  2. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live the happiness of others, not for the misery of others. We do not want to hate and despise the other. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone.
  3.
  4. Our way of life can be free and beautiful. But we're lost on the way.
  5.
  6. Greed has poisoned men's souls, and barricaded the world with hate; she put us on the path of misery and bloodshed.
  7.
  8. We have developed speed, but we feel enclosed:
  9. The machines that produce plenty have left us in want.
  10. The increase of our knowledge has made us skeptical; our cleverness hard and unkind.
  11. We think too much and feel too little:
  12. More than machinery we need humanity;
  13. More than intelligence, we need kindness and gentleness.
  14.
  15. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.
  16.
  17. The airplane and the radio have moved us. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood, the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women, children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. For those who can hear me I say "Do not despair".
  18.
  19. The disgrace that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress: the hate of men will pass and dictators die and the power they took the people, will return to the people and as men die [now] liberty will never perish ...
  20.
  21. Soldiers: do not give in to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, that eat you, digest, treated like cattle, as cannon fodder .
  22.
  23. Do not give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are men. You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You do not hate, just hate anyone who is not loved. Only the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers: do not fight for slavery, fight for liberty.
  24.
  25. In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written:
  26. "The kingdom of God is within man"
  27. Not a man, nor a group of men, but in all men; in you, the people.
  28.
  29. You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy, let us use that power, let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future, longevity and safety. It is the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfill their promise, they never will. Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfill that promise. Now let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, do away with greed, hatred and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to the happiness of all men.
  30.
  31. Soldiers! In the name of democracy, let us all unite!
  32.
  33. Look up! Look up! The clouds are dissipating, the sun is breaking. We are coming out of darkness into light. We are entering a new world. A new kind of world where men will rise above their hate and brutality.
  34. The soul of man has grown wings and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow, into the light of hope for the future, that glorious future that belongs to you, you belong to me, it belongs to us all.
  35. Look up!
  36. Look up! "
