- Stranger: okay let's talk about computers
- Stranger: i want to build a computer by myself
- You: I have never built a computer specifically for my needs. I usually took parts that were working, and bashed them together :)
- Stranger: i want to built an allround computer
- Stranger: with hybrid graphic card
- You: Ew, those are largely non-practical.
- Stranger: one graphic card on the mainboard and one normal graphic card
- Stranger: if the computer needs less graphic power than it uses only the on board graphics
- Stranger: and if it needs more graphic power than it use the normal graphic card
- You: So, you want to build a notebook?
- Stranger: and if it needs alot power than it use both graphic cards
- Stranger: not a notebook
- Stranger: a multimedia computer
- Stranger: with a 7.1 sound card
- You: I'll tell you it straight - it is more trouble than it is worth.
- Stranger: if it exists a 11.2 sound card i would prefer that
- Stranger: why trouble?
- Stranger: i am not sure which cpu i should use
- You: The Nvidia's Optimus technology is suited for notebooks.
- You: And it is made by notebook manufacturers.
- You: And that is the main graphics solution here.
- Stranger: it exist other hybrid graphics too and not only optimus
- You: Yeah, right... Still, it is not really needed in most cases.
- Stranger: and where is the problem if the hybrid technology was first for notebooks?
- Stranger: now it exist it for normal computers too
- You: 1. It is not called hybrid! Hybrid is CPU/GPU, like Intel's Sandy Bridge.
- Stranger: Hybrid SLI ........ baby :P
- Stranger: it IS called hybrid
- Stranger: GeForce GTS 360M
- GeForce GTS 350M
- GeForce GT 335M
- GeForce GT 330M
- GeForce GT 325M
- GeForce 310M
- GeForce 305M
- GeForce GTX 285M
- GeForce GTX 280M
- GeForce GTX 260M
- GeForce GTS 260M
- GeForce GTS 250M
- GeForce GT 240M
- GeForce GT 230M
- GeForce G210M
- GeForce GTS 160M
- GeForce GTS 150M
- GeForce GT 130M
- GeForce G 110M
- GeForce G 105M
- GeForce 9800M GTX
- GeForce 9800M GT
- GeForce 9800M GTS
- GeForce 9700M GTS
- GeForce 9700M GT
- GeForce 9650M GT
- GeForce 9650M GS
- GeForce 9600M GT
- GeForce 9600M GS
- GeForce 9500M G
- GeForce 9300M GS
- GeForce 9200M GS
- those graphic cards can be used with Nvidia Hybrid SLI
- Stranger: onboard plus one of those
- You: 2. do you really care for electricity that much? Outside of notebook spectre, it loosely makes sense.
- Stranger: i care more for silence ! (and for electricity too)
- Stranger: if my computer works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year than i care for electricity
- Stranger: most of the time i use graphics with less power
- You: Alright, I don't think this discussion is going anywhere.
- Most cards use power control. If you do not have it, please throw your RIVA TNT away.
- Stranger: so i don't want a big graphic card working all the time
- Stranger: i want just to build an allround multimedia computer
- Stranger: with less electricity consumption and lots of power
- Stranger: i want to decode video and music files too
- Stranger: so i need power
- Stranger: and i want to watch full hd movies with 7.2 surround sound
- You: Our philosophies have a sharp clash here: I use a good one, and a quiet one.
- You: (Also, Nvidia's site says explicitly about notebooks, but nothing about desktop application)
- Stranger: it exists desktop mainboards based on notebook mainboards
- Stranger: extra small mainboards
- You: With all the cooling and bad extension problems of notebooks, as I get it.
- You: Not a good desktop solution.
- Stranger: notebooks got cooling problems because there is less air
- Stranger: it is a ´´desktop mainboard based on a notebook mainboard``
- Stranger: it is not a notebook mainboard
- Stranger: do you understand?
- Stranger: you can put it in a normal tower if you want
- Stranger: Asus makes good one
- Stranger: and Zotac too
- You: Still, you gotta admit, they make all those desktop boards for a reason.
- Stranger: the form is called Mini-ITX
- Stranger: which reason?
- You: It is easier to hook everything into a bigger space.
- Stranger: Mini-ITX is a desktop boards (a smaller desktop board)
- You: (I meant usual atx/miniatx)
- Stranger: Mini-ITX is just a smaller mainboard with less consumption and the same power
- Stranger: so i think it is good
- Stranger: where are the contras?
- Stranger: i see only pros
- You: Come again when you try and see.
- Stranger: i would use an external power unit
- Stranger: and make the computer small
- You: I have a bigtower for things needing power. I have a notebook for chatting and other stuff. I would not recommend blending them together.
- Stranger: cool would be with in integrated hifi amplifier
- Stranger: why not an allround computer?
- You: (Also, if you make the computer small, you will have no space to put the video card into)
- Stranger: of course i got space
- Stranger: i would lay it down
- You: So, custom-chassis?
- Stranger: lay the graphic card down with an adapter
- Stranger: yes of course a custom chassis
- You: Also, one of my principles: KISS, also known as Keep It Simple Stupid.
- You: Which your config does not fit into at all :)
- Stranger: what does not fit?
- You: Making your own chassis, fiddling with needed motherboard and graphic card configurations, etc.
- Stranger: i was machinery and equipment chief, it would be easy to make a chassis by myself
- Stranger: i made blackboxes for airplanes
- Stranger: and car parts
- Stranger: and computer parts
- Stranger: covers for cellphones
- Stranger: with cnc machines
- Stranger: machine parts i made too
- You: Also, all the graphic cards listed are notebook based. Notice that "M"? Right.
- Anyways, it is more than 4 AM, so meet you in the frontlines of flamewar again.
- You: I would really recommend you just having two separate cards and switching in BIOS.
- Stranger: i want 2 cards working by themself together or alone
- Stranger: and not switching
- You: Well, look at the AMD line of cards then!
- You: They allow different cards to work together just fine.
- Stranger: amd got something hybrid like too
- You: Maybe a cheap series+a high end would work just fine.
- And, you need to have a program switching crossfire off/on in needed situations.
- Stranger: ´´amd hybrid crossfire``
- Stranger: why are you against hybrid stuff?
- Stranger: i think in a few years almost every computer will use that
- Stranger: and every notebook
- You: KISS principle, still.
- Stranger: i don't think so
- Stranger: look at a Mercedes-Benz (i got one)
- You: That is my principle, not of the notebook makers.
- Stranger: they worked 20 years ago good too
- Stranger: but they still make it better
- You: That includes sticking a motorcycle inside the car for situations when you need to save petrol?
- Stranger: 100 years ago a Mercedes-Benz worked good too and they still make it better
- Stranger: That includes sticking a motorcycle inside the car for situations when you need to save petrol? ????
- Stranger: what do you mean?
- You: Hybrid tech, duh.
- Stranger: Mercedes-Benz got some hybrid cars
- Stranger: with electro- and petrol- engine
- You: They are not hybrid in that sense of word, still.
- Stranger: of course they are hybrid
- Stranger: they use the electro engine to save petrol
- Stranger: brb
- Stranger: i am back
- You: Eh, whatever. I really wanna sleep, as it is almost hitting dawn.
- You: Sorry for not continuing.
- Stranger: i need a computer for video and audio decoding, video and music processing, tv receiver, .......... and and and work, games ...
- Stranger: ok
- Stranger: it was nice to chat with you
- You: If so, my guess you will use all the resources all the time.
- Stranger: i want to use a computer + beamer for ALL
- Stranger: like ALL in 1
- Stranger: not all the time
- Stranger: if i just surf in the internet than i don't use all resources
- Stranger: or if i use word only
- Stranger: or if i just watch tv through the internet in HD than i don't use all resources
- Stranger: it is variable
- You: I think we will see if that actually works out in 5 years, or if they just learn to control the consumption of one video card, because man-that is a kludge.
- Stranger: i think in a few years lots of people will use media stations for tv and stuff based on netbook with hybrid to save electricity
- You: Alright, going to sleep. Do you have an IM (Skype/Jabber/FB-chat)?
- Stranger: i don't have sorry
- Stranger: i don't use any social network programs
- Stranger: or websites
- You: erm, since when is jabber social network?
- Stranger: i even don't know what Jabber or FB-chat is
- Stranger: i don't use any messenger
- You: Ok, so you have email, I suppose?
- Stranger: yes
