  1. Stranger: okay let's talk about computers
  2.
  3. Stranger: i want to build a computer by myself
  4.
  5. You: I have never built a computer specifically for my needs. I usually took parts that were working, and bashed them together :)
  6.
  7. Stranger: i want to built an allround computer
  8.
  9. Stranger: with hybrid graphic card
  10.
  11. You: Ew, those are largely non-practical.
  12.
  13. Stranger: one graphic card on the mainboard and one normal graphic card
  14.
  15. Stranger: if the computer needs less graphic power than it uses only the on board graphics
  16.
  17. Stranger: and if it needs more graphic power than it use the normal graphic card
  18.
  19. You: So, you want to build a notebook?
  20.
  21. Stranger: and if it needs alot power than it use both graphic cards
  22.
  23. Stranger: not a notebook
  24.
  25. Stranger: a multimedia computer
  26.
  27. Stranger: with a 7.1 sound card
  28.
  29. You: I'll tell you it straight - it is more trouble than it is worth.
  30.
  31. Stranger: if it exists a 11.2 sound card i would prefer that
  32.
  33. Stranger: why trouble?
  34.
  35. Stranger: i am not sure which cpu i should use
  36.
  37. You: The Nvidia's Optimus technology is suited for notebooks.
  38.
  39. You: And it is made by notebook manufacturers.
  40.
  41. You: And that is the main graphics solution here.
  42.
  43. Stranger: it exist other hybrid graphics too and not only optimus
  44.
  45. You: Yeah, right... Still, it is not really needed in most cases.
  46.
  47. Stranger: and where is the problem if the hybrid technology was first for notebooks?
  48.
  49. Stranger: now it exist it for normal computers too
  50.
  51. You: 1. It is not called hybrid! Hybrid is CPU/GPU, like Intel's Sandy Bridge.
  52.
  53. Stranger: Hybrid SLI ........ baby :P
  54.
  55. Stranger: it IS called hybrid
  56.
  57. Stranger: GeForce GTS 360M
  58. GeForce GTS 350M
  59. GeForce GT 335M
  60. GeForce GT 330M
  61. GeForce GT 325M
  62. GeForce 310M
  63. GeForce 305M
  64. GeForce GTX 285M
  65. GeForce GTX 280M
  66. GeForce GTX 260M
  67. GeForce GTS 260M
  68. GeForce GTS 250M
  69. GeForce GT 240M
  70. GeForce GT 230M
  71. GeForce G210M
  72. GeForce GTS 160M
  73. GeForce GTS 150M
  74. GeForce GT 130M
  75. GeForce G 110M
  76. GeForce G 105M
  77. GeForce 9800M GTX
  78. GeForce 9800M GT
  79. GeForce 9800M GTS
  80. GeForce 9700M GTS
  81. GeForce 9700M GT
  82. GeForce 9650M GT
  83. GeForce 9650M GS
  84. GeForce 9600M GT
  85. GeForce 9600M GS
  86. GeForce 9500M G
  87. GeForce 9300M GS
  88. GeForce 9200M GS
  89.
  90.
  91. those graphic cards can be used with Nvidia Hybrid SLI
  92.
  93. Stranger: onboard plus one of those
  94.
  95. You: 2. do you really care for electricity that much? Outside of notebook spectre, it loosely makes sense.
  96.
  97. Stranger: i care more for silence ! (and for electricity too)
  98.
  99. Stranger: if my computer works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year than i care for electricity
  100.
  101. Stranger: most of the time i use graphics with less power
  102.
  103. You: Alright, I don't think this discussion is going anywhere.
  104. Most cards use power control. If you do not have it, please throw your RIVA TNT away.
  105.
  106. Stranger: so i don't want a big graphic card working all the time
  107.
  108. Stranger: i want just to build an allround multimedia computer
  109.
  110. Stranger: with less electricity consumption and lots of power
  111.
  112. Stranger: i want to decode video and music files too
  113.
  114. Stranger: so i need power
  115.
  116. Stranger: and i want to watch full hd movies with 7.2 surround sound
  117.
  118. You: Our philosophies have a sharp clash here: I use a good one, and a quiet one.
  119.
  120. You: (Also, Nvidia's site says explicitly about notebooks, but nothing about desktop application)
  121.
  122. Stranger: it exists desktop mainboards based on notebook mainboards
  123.
  124. Stranger: extra small mainboards
  125.
  126. You: With all the cooling and bad extension problems of notebooks, as I get it.
  127.
  128. You: Not a good desktop solution.
  129.
  130. Stranger: notebooks got cooling problems because there is less air
  131.
  132. Stranger: it is a ´´desktop mainboard based on a notebook mainboard``
  133.
  134. Stranger: it is not a notebook mainboard
  135.
  136. Stranger: do you understand?
  137.
  138. Stranger: you can put it in a normal tower if you want
  139.
  140. Stranger: Asus makes good one
  141.
  142. Stranger: and Zotac too
  143.
  144. You: Still, you gotta admit, they make all those desktop boards for a reason.
  145.
  146. Stranger: the form is called Mini-ITX
  147.
  148. Stranger: which reason?
  149.
  150. You: It is easier to hook everything into a bigger space.
  151.
  152. Stranger: Mini-ITX is a desktop boards (a smaller desktop board)
  153.
  154. You: (I meant usual atx/miniatx)
  155.
  156. Stranger: Mini-ITX is just a smaller mainboard with less consumption and the same power
  157.
  158. Stranger: so i think it is good
  159.
  160. Stranger: where are the contras?
  161.
  162. Stranger: i see only pros
  163.
  164. You: Come again when you try and see.
  165.
  166. Stranger: i would use an external power unit
  167.
  168. Stranger: and make the computer small
  169.
  170. You: I have a bigtower for things needing power. I have a notebook for chatting and other stuff. I would not recommend blending them together.
  171.
  172. Stranger: cool would be with in integrated hifi amplifier
  173.
  174. Stranger: why not an allround computer?
  175.
  176. You: (Also, if you make the computer small, you will have no space to put the video card into)
  177.
  178. Stranger: of course i got space
  179.
  180. Stranger: i would lay it down
  181.
  182. You: So, custom-chassis?
  183.
  184. Stranger: lay the graphic card down with an adapter
  185.
  186. Stranger: yes of course a custom chassis
  187.
  188. You: Also, one of my principles: KISS, also known as Keep It Simple Stupid.
  189.
  190. You: Which your config does not fit into at all :)
  191.
  192. Stranger: what does not fit?
  193.
  194. You: Making your own chassis, fiddling with needed motherboard and graphic card configurations, etc.
  195.
  196. Stranger: i was machinery and equipment chief, it would be easy to make a chassis by myself
  197.
  198. Stranger: i made blackboxes for airplanes
  199.
  200. Stranger: and car parts
  201.
  202. Stranger: and computer parts
  203.
  204. Stranger: covers for cellphones
  205.
  206. Stranger: with cnc machines
  207.
  208. Stranger: machine parts i made too
  209.
  210. You: Also, all the graphic cards listed are notebook based. Notice that "M"? Right.
  211. Anyways, it is more than 4 AM, so meet you in the frontlines of flamewar again.
  212.
  213. You: I would really recommend you just having two separate cards and switching in BIOS.
  214.
  215. Stranger: i want 2 cards working by themself together or alone
  216.
  217. Stranger: and not switching
  218.
  219. You: Well, look at the AMD line of cards then!
  220.
  221. You: They allow different cards to work together just fine.
  222.
  223. Stranger: amd got something hybrid like too
  224.
  225. You: Maybe a cheap series+a high end would work just fine.
  226. And, you need to have a program switching crossfire off/on in needed situations.
  227.
  228. Stranger: ´´amd hybrid crossfire``
  229.
  230. Stranger: why are you against hybrid stuff?
  231.
  232. Stranger: i think in a few years almost every computer will use that
  233.
  234. Stranger: and every notebook
  235.
  236. You: KISS principle, still.
  237.
  238. Stranger: i don't think so
  239.
  240. Stranger: look at a Mercedes-Benz (i got one)
  241.
  242. You: That is my principle, not of the notebook makers.
  243.
  244. Stranger: they worked 20 years ago good too
  245.
  246. Stranger: but they still make it better
  247.
  248. You: That includes sticking a motorcycle inside the car for situations when you need to save petrol?
  249.
  250. Stranger: 100 years ago a Mercedes-Benz worked good too and they still make it better
  251.
  252. Stranger: That includes sticking a motorcycle inside the car for situations when you need to save petrol? ????
  253.
  254. Stranger: what do you mean?
  255.
  256. You: Hybrid tech, duh.
  257.
  258. Stranger: Mercedes-Benz got some hybrid cars
  259.
  260. Stranger: with electro- and petrol- engine
  261.
  262. You: They are not hybrid in that sense of word, still.
  263.
  264. Stranger: of course they are hybrid
  265.
  266. Stranger: they use the electro engine to save petrol
  267.
  268. Stranger: brb
  269.
  270. Stranger: i am back
  271.
  272. You: Eh, whatever. I really wanna sleep, as it is almost hitting dawn.
  273.
  274. You: Sorry for not continuing.
  275.
  276. Stranger: i need a computer for video and audio decoding, video and music processing, tv receiver, .......... and and and work, games ...
  277.
  278. Stranger: ok
  279.
  280. Stranger: it was nice to chat with you
  281.
  282. You: If so, my guess you will use all the resources all the time.
  283.
  284. Stranger: i want to use a computer + beamer for ALL
  285.
  286. Stranger: like ALL in 1
  287.
  288. Stranger: not all the time
  289.
  290. Stranger: if i just surf in the internet than i don't use all resources
  291.
  292. Stranger: or if i use word only
  293.
  294. Stranger: or if i just watch tv through the internet in HD than i don't use all resources
  295.
  296. Stranger: it is variable
  297.
  298. You: I think we will see if that actually works out in 5 years, or if they just learn to control the consumption of one video card, because man-that is a kludge.
  299.
  300. Stranger: i think in a few years lots of people will use media stations for tv and stuff based on netbook with hybrid to save electricity
  301.
  302. You: Alright, going to sleep. Do you have an IM (Skype/Jabber/FB-chat)?
  303.
  304. Stranger: i don't have sorry
  305.
  306. Stranger: i don't use any social network programs
  307.
  308. Stranger: or websites
  309.
  310. You: erm, since when is jabber social network?
  311.
  312. Stranger: i even don't know what Jabber or FB-chat is
  313.
  314. Stranger: i don't use any messenger
  315.
  316. You: Ok, so you have email, I suppose?
  317.
  318. Stranger: yes
