  1. At first I want to make clear that no cheat codes were used in this speedrun nor was the game modified in any way nor did I do any video editing besides putting the segments together and removing loading screens. I do abuse glitches in this run.
  2. I started on English 1.08j, but later had to change to 1.08k_mod (Playerkit). I had to install the Playerkit, because I found out that it is necessary for moving while being out of bounds, but nothing I did while on version 1.08j works at all different than on 1.08k_mod.
  3. I want to thanks Petrovich and TheWonderer for their previous speedruns and NajaDynim, Cyprys and LoneWarg for their help with testing before I go on explaining the tricks in this run.
  4.
  5. Overview
  6.
  7. To finish the game I need to use the 5 orcish heart shrines of the Sleeper. Each shrine needs the blade of the corresponding orcish priest to use.
  8. Using one heart shrine multiple times does not work since the game checks for each individual shrine.
  9. Two hypothetical (very big) improvement would be using the heart shrines without the blades or taking the blades from the priests without killing them, but I see no way to do either.
  10. Thus the basic route is as follows:
  11. 1. Go to the Temple of the Sleeper.
  12. 2.-6. Kill the 5 priests and take their blades.
  13. 7. Go to the Sleeper and use the heart shrines.
  14.
  15. 1. Getting to the Temple of the Sleeper [0:00-1:01]
  16.
  17. [0:00] I start off by skipping the dialogue with Diego. I simply walk forward for a bit, save & reload and do it again to walk out of his talking range. The delay of ~0.8s before talking to me is reset on save&load. Interestingly this also skips entering the first chapter and technically finish the game on chapter 0.
  18. [0:07] Now is the first instance of the biggest glitch in this run. I call it the "catapult glitch" and will refer to it as that from now on. If you pause the game at the right moment in the running animation the hero will continue moving forward in a frozen animation state, which looks like he is gliding over the ground. After a while he will reverse direction and glide back to the original position, where the game was paused. Then after unpausing the game he may suddenly move forward again with incredible speed (I made a mod to measure it and got >10000x the normal running speed).
  19. In this case I only fly a few metres and save a few seconds.
  20. [0:12] Again I do the catapult glitch and this time the result is much stronger. I fly across the whole map in less than a second and get directly to the orc town. Now it should probably be said that this glitch is both pretty hard to do and completely unpredictable in its result. With a cleaner landing at the end I could save at least 4 seconds, but after thousands of attempts I went on.
  21. [0:20] I jump up the slopes and then do another catapult glitch, but this time backwards. Doing it backwards is generally slower especially considering you have to turn around, but I could not find a spot to do it forwards.
  22. [0:38] When I jump down from the plateau, you will see me do a jump forwards while falling. This glitch is done by not having a map in the inventory, holding jump and forward and pressing the map key M. Then when I hit the ground I do the same glitch to jump in mid-air and gain height.
  23. [0:51] I jump through a small hole above the gate to the Temple of the Sleeper to bypass the chapter 5 restriction. Then I do another catapult glitch to fly into the Temple and save a few more seconds.
  24.
  25. 2. Killing the priest with Ball of Lightning [1:01-2:11]
  26.
  27. [1:19] This is the first instance of me clipping through a wall in this run. This works on corners between two straight and vertical walls by running into that corner and using the map glitch to jump repeatedly in it. If the walls are not straight or not vertical or the angle is too wide, you will not be able to get inside the corner. By some magic you will eventually slip through. These parts were the most frustrating to me and always look ugly. It makes you wonder why you spend so much time trying to squeeze out seconds in the other parts, if you are going to lose it all on these parts anyway.
  28. [1:28] Now that I went through the wall I am out of bounds. Now moving while out of bounds is not possible on all versions. You need to have the Playerkit installed (version 1.08k_mod) and you need to have the proper Operating System. I did it on Windows XP. I do not know which other versions work, but Vista and 7 do not.
  29. I do another catapult glitch to fly to the chamber of the first priest.
  30. [1:45] After turning the switch 3 times to spawn the priest I do the map glitch to get a bit of height. With very precise timing and the right height it is possible to skip the priest walking up and talking to you. Instead he directly draws his weapon and starts attacking me.
  31. It would have been enough to just gain the height and save&load in mid-air to skip the dialogue, but save&load also resets the aggressiveness of the skeletons, which are chasing me and I want to lure them near the priest.
  32. After I've lured them around him I save&load to reset their aggressiveness. While the skeletons stop attacking me, the priest does not (the AI of orcs and humans is different from monsters). He hits the skeletons and a demon, who start killing him for me.
  33.
  34. 3. Killing the priest with Lightning [2:11-2:41]
  35.
  36. [2:19] After another glitch through a wall I run over to the next chamber. There is a trigger to spawn the priest that I need to hit, which is the reason for the path I take.
  37. I skip the dialogue with this priest like I did with the first one except that I use the much easier method of save&load while in mid-air. After making him hostile I AGAIN save&load at the right time during his weapon drawing animation to make him draw his weapon without the magic. He now uses his staff as a melee weapon and cannot kill me instantly like he usually would.
  38. [2:31] I run past him and onto the small shrine behind him. There is a switch to open the gate into the trap below that you usually activate with an arrow, but just walking to it works too. The priest runs towards me and falls into the spike trap.
  39. The trap does not deal enough damage to kill him instantly, so I quickly save&load several times until he is dead and then activate the switch again to deactivate the trap, drop down, take his blade and glitch trough the wall there.
  40. When I go down it looks like a part of the video is missing, but it is indeed just the way the game tries to relocate the player on the ground, when a game is saved in mid-air.
  41.
  42. 4. Killing the priest with Storm of Fire [2:31-3:15]
  43.
  44. [2:31] I do a special catapult glitch here. The big stone prevents me from going back inbounds during the glide while the game is paused. If I was to glide back into the normal game world during while the game is paused, the catapult glitch would not work.
  45. With another catapult glitch I fly back inbounds to the third priest.
  46. [2:58] I do another catapult glitch to fly past the spike trap in front of his chamber.
  47. [3:02] I again do the map glitch to gain height and save&load in mid-air to skip his dialogue. I run away from him and he randomly decides to blindly charge forward. I activate the trap and take his blade.
  48.
  49. 5. Killing the priest with Pyrokinesis [3:15-3:50]
  50.
  51. [3:15] Again an ugly glitch through the wall and a catapult glitch to fly to the chamber of the next priest.
  52. [3:39] If I enter his chamber walking at the right spot, he will instantly attack me skipping the dialogue.
  53. [3:43] I am outside the reach of his Pyrokinesis spell and back up some more so that he climbs onto the altar in the middle of the room.
  54. I then do the map glitch, but keep the map button held down so that the hero freezes in the jumping animation and sinks into the ground (this is hard to see because of the camera angle). For some strange reason this causes the priest to blindly charge forward (also not seen in the video due to the camera).
  55. When the priest is under the descending pillar, I save&load to stop him running forward and the pillar descends to kill him. Then I take his blade and glitch out of the chamber again.
  56.
  57. 6. Killing the last priest [3:50-4:42]
  58.
  59. [3:50] Again catapult glitches to fly to the next priest. I got quite lucky with the second flight and land directly in the talking range of the last priest. Since I need him to walk up to me this dialogue cannot be skipped and it is thus very good that I fall to the ground while in his range losing no time waiting to hit the ground before I can walk to him.
  60. [4:13] The catapult glitch does not work only on the hero. Here I use it on the priest to make him fly through the air and fall into the pit.
  61. After I do a catapult glitch next to the bridge I still have to wait a bit until the hits the ground and dies. Then I run out of range and do another catapult glitch back.
  62. [4:39] The priest is back at his original position, because I left his range and he has an important item (his blade) with him.
  63.
  64. 7. The end [4:42-5:50]
  65.
  66. [4:42] The usual stuff: glitching through a wall and a catapult glitch
  67. [5:11] Right as Cor Kalom tries to speak with me I open the menu and load the save again.
  68. Afterwards the game still considers me in dialogue mode, but I can still move freely. However while Cor Kalom tries to talk to me and I turn to him the dialogue does not happen. The templar that is chasing me and the demons that are spawned upon using the heart shrines are unable to attack me in this mode.
