Character Name: Caro'wyl Lochsbryd (Cahr-oh-vil)

Backstory: The bastard son of a wealthy man in the Drow capital, raised with the servants and kept relatively comfortable, albeit with a copper spoon compared to the silver spoon of his half-siblings. Though he was taught etiquette, Caro was much closer to the common folk than the nobility as a result and after blooming into adulthood a century and some change later, it was more convenient for him and family both to disappear, rather than stay and participate in family affairs. That whole prophecy conflict had started up too, and he figured he'd rather not get involved. He took to becoming a drifting bard, singing songs taught to him by the servants in his childhood and picked up from his travels.

State of their parents:

His father is Tyrael Moonshadow (Are these even appropriate Drow names? Beats me)  who is a wealthy Drow - perhaps a noble born in the lap of luxury, a wealthy businesman, or a politician. He's alive and well and contributing on the populace side of the civil war in the Underdark. A stern man with no tolerance for nonsense. His mother was a Drow known only by the pseudonym Red Willow, a scoundrel. She might have been a pirate, or a mercenary, or perhaps a professional cat burglar with a flair for the dramatic. Either way, business brought Red Willow to Tyrael, and pleasure resulted in Caro. He was left on Tyrael's doorstep shortly after being born with naught but a blanket to swaddle him and a note for his father. His stepmother, Calopeia, is aware of his status as her husband's illegitimate son but has never mistreated Caro for it. On the contrary, it was she who showed more warmth to him during his youth than his own father.

As for Red Willow, her current status is unknown. Caro was curious to learn about her, however, and has been listening for rumors in the town of her youth, Verdenharbour. Listening for rumors, nothing more. He has his own life to live in the meantime...

Important events within their life that developed their personality:

In his childhood naivety, he was one responsible for one of the servants' children getting punished for something Caro had done instead. Seeing his friend flogged for his own gaff horrified him and put a seed in his mind early on to be better to others. To this day, he's still arrogant and self-centered, but seeing people suffer is still enough to give him pause and stir him to action.

Favourite food: Meatballs and beef gravy over noodles.

Religion if any: Generally leaves the subject alone, but from time to time has paid respects to Apollo.

Worst fear: To find out something happened to one of his siblings - or failing that, drowning.

Pet Peeve: People that waste his time. This is an overly broad peeve, and what it actually comes down to is more dependent on his mood than the actions of the other person more often than not.

Finding creative solutions to problems and the big payout of a plan gone well.

Open road traveling, mostly. It's fine, but I like seeing some details about points of interest.

He's cocky and has a high opinion of himself, but despite that he still wants to do good in the world. He considers himself above the prototypical bard who desperately tries to explore the bed of any and every wench in his way. In his eyes, he is an exclusive commodity and it is others who should desire HIM. He probably plays at some of the local inns near the guild as well and has tried expanding his social network.


So you mentioned half siblings, and this childhood friend. Who are they, where are they, what are they doing, and how do they feel about Caro'wyl?


His older sister, Magathrae. Contrary to her mother's warmth or her father's indifference, Magathrae never liked Caro much. She barely recognizes him as family, let alone as her brother, and when growing up often made him the subject of her pranks and bullying. She mellowed out with age, but the two have still never been close. She married into a prominent Drow family somewhere and now spends her days  helping oversee her new famiy's estate.

His strong-willed older brother, Jalharn. Close in age to each other, they grew up with both a fast friendship and a fierce rivalry, competing with each other in everything from love to combat training. Their relationship has been both fair and rocky and even on the best of days it's difficult to say how it may play out. He's a wealthy investor somewhere now, but has developed something of a drinking problem.

His younger sister, Kalessa. Caro often got her in trouble taking her to places that weren't fit for girls of her standing, but she never seemed to mind. In fact, the adventurous spirit was sparked in her at a young age as well, and though she's somewhat meek, she has a strong desire to see the world. She's in an arranged engagement to another family outside of the Underdark and not completely happy with the situation.

His childhood friend, Velkress. She was one of the servants' daughters and got on with Caro during his childhood. During an incident where an expensive vase was broken, Caro denied the blame and it was her who was punished by the family instead. Caro had later apologized, but their friendship had taken a turn it wouldn't recover from so quickly. Current status: Unknown. Might still be working for the Moonshadows, or she might have left that life for better (or worse) things.
