  1. Word Roots - with your partner, try to think of one or two words to explain the meaning of each root.
  2. morph (amorphous, metamorphosis, morphology) = form
  3. multi (multicolored, multilayers) = many (This is the Latin root.)
  4. nat (native, innate, natal) = birth
  5. neo (neoclassical, neocolonialism, Neolithic) = new
  6. nom/nym (nominate, misnomer, pseudonym, anonymous) = name
  7. nov (innovate, novelty, nova) = new
  8. nov (November) = nine (At one time the year began in March.)
  9. ob (obstruct, object) = in front of
  10. omni (omnipotent, omnidirectional, omnivore) = all (This is the Latin root.)
  11. optim (optimal, optimize) = best
  12. opt (optician, optometry) = eye/vision
  13. paleo (paleontology, Paleolithic, paleozoic) = old
  14. pan (panacea, panorama, pandemic) = all (This is the Greek root.)
  15. path (pathology, antipathy, empathy) = suffer (Many words that begin with this root have to do more specifically with disease.)
  16. ped (pedestrian, pedicure) = foot
  17. ped/paed (pediatrician, pedagogy) = child
  18. peri (perimeter, peripheral) = around
  19. phil (philanthropy, philosophy, bibliophile) = love/attraction
  20. phob (arachnophobia, claustrophobia) = fear/aversion
  21. phon (phonograph, microphone, homophone) = sound
  22. photo (photograph, photosynthesis, photon) = light
  23. pod (podium, podiatry, tripod) = foot
  24. poly (polygon, polyglot) = many (This is the Greek root.)
  25. port (transport, portable) = carry (pass through)
  26. post (posthumous, postpone) = later/after
  27. proto (prototype, proton, protocol) = first
  28. pseudo (pseudonym, pseudopod) = fake/false
  29. psych (psychopath, psychotherapy, psychology) = mind
  30. pute (computer, dispute) = think/calculate/reckon

  61. - These are not very common on the test, but knowing what pronouns refer to is very important for general reading comprehension and several other question types, such as sentence insertion and paraphrase.
