- [16:26] <DM_> LAST TIME ON SCRATCHSTUCK
- [16:26] <DM_> Zhayko discovered that theres a sekret chamber in his house.
- [16:26] <DM_> Nobody was expecting this at all.
- [16:26] <DM_> "You find a small slot that you could probably put a key into."
- [16:26] * Zhayko_Drelez examines the apparent key hole, and inserts the key into it.
- [16:27] <DM_> You insert the key, and there's a large grating noise as one of the larger machines folds back into the wall, revealing a dimly lit passageway.
- [16:28] <Zhayko_Drelez> Before entering the passageway, Zhayko looks for a way to turn off the maps currently flooding his workshop.
- [16:29] <DM_> There appears to be none, and the maps don't seem to be stopping.
- [16:29] <DM_> It is certainly a very efficient machine.
- [16:30] * Zhayko_Drelez shrugs, and assumes it will be fine.
- [16:30] * Zhayko_Drelez walks into the passageway.
- [16:30] <DM_> You walk down the passageway. The atmosphere is very tense.
- [16:31] <DM_> You reach a door that appears as if it will slide open. There are two skeletons lying on the ground outside it.
- [16:31] * Zhayko_Drelez captchalogues both skeletons, and attempts to slide the door open.
- [16:32] <DM_> You captchalogue both skeletons, and then enter the room.
- [16:36] <DM_> There are several worktables in the room, but they appear to have been shoved over to the side to make room for something. Papers are scattered all over the floor. The walls and ceilings look like they're made of titanium, or a material similarly tough. There's a computer terminal on the right side of the room, with a program running on it. You don
- [16:36] <DM_> 't take that long to look at it, though, as something else grabs your attention.
- [16:37] <DM_> In the center of the room stands a suspended block of ice containing a troll with an anguished look on their face. They have wires hooked up to their brain, that connect to a nearby terminal. It reads one message.
- [16:37] <DM_> >Hello, Zhayko Drelez.
- [16:38] <Zhayko_Drelez> "Hello?"
- [16:38] <Zhayko_Drelez> "Who are you?"
- [16:38] <Zhayko_Drelez> "Is this The Failsafe's lab?"
- [16:38] <DM_> There is no response.
- [16:38] <Zhayko_Drelez> Zhayko's brain goes on autopilot, asking every question he has.
- [16:38] <DM_> They cannot hear you.
- [16:38] <DM_> It appears you need to type.
- [16:38] * Zhayko_Drelez approaches the terminal, and repeats the above questions.
- [16:39] <DM_> > I am the Failsafe, your ancestor.
- [16:39] <DM_> > This is my lab.
- [16:39] <DM_> > Welcome.
- [16:39] <Zhayko_Drelez> >You are alive
- [16:39] <Zhayko_Drelez> >This is good
- [16:40] <DM_> > Alive is a subjective term.
- [16:40] <Zhayko_Drelez> >You are not dead
- [16:40] <DM_> > I am alive, as long as I stay within this ice.
- [16:40] <Zhayko_Drelez> >That is still alive
- [16:40] <DM_> > If it were to melt, I would bleed out.
- [16:40] <Zhayko_Drelez> >That is enough for me
- [16:40] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I have so many questions
- [16:41] * Zhayko_Drelez lets out a slow smile.
- [16:41] <DM_> > I have many answers for you.
- [16:41] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Tell me about your devices
- [16:42] <DM_> > I specialized in drones and artificial intelligence.
- [16:42] <DM_> > The terminal you talked to in Guardian Lab 1 was one of my creations.
- [16:42] <Zhayko_Drelez> >It was very realistic
- [16:42] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Your creations are amazing
- [16:43] <DM_> > In addition, I worked a bit on cryogenics, and a bit of game programming.
- [16:43] <DM_> > Thank you. That is high praise indeed.
- [16:43] <DM_> > Is there anything else you would like to ask?
- [16:43] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I have experienced firsthand that your work in cryogenics and artificial intelligence was successful
- [16:43] <Zhayko_Drelez> >But drones and games I have not seen
- [16:44] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Tell me about those
- [16:44] <DM_> > Drones. Well, the Guardians in Guardian Base are drones.
- [16:44] <DM_> > You will be seeing those soon if I am correct.
- [16:44] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I saw none of them
- [16:44] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I found a large webbeast
- [16:44] <DM_> > You will.
- [16:45] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Understood
- [16:45] <Zhayko_Drelez> >And game programming?
- [16:45] <DM_> > It should not have been let in. Time, however, destroys many of our greatest systems.
- [16:45] <DM_> > Game programming. I was given some code to translate by my good friend the Inspirer.
- [16:45] <DM_> > Naturally, I translated it.
- [16:45] <DM_> > It was the code for a game that would allow us to reach the level of gods.
- [16:46] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Intriguing
- [16:46] <DM_> > I was extremely excited by this development, so much so that I forgot about safety for a second.
- [16:46] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Were you successful?
- [16:46] <DM_> > I told one of my closest friends about this game, and they sold me out to the Dominant.
- [16:46] <DM_> > The Dominant sent men here, who shot me in the back right before I ran the game.
- [16:46] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Distractions are bad
- [16:47] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Traitors are bad
- [16:47] <DM_> > I was able to be frozen quickly enough that I did not bleed out, however.
- [16:47] <DM_> > Indeed.
- [16:47] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Will it ever be possible to allow you to be unfrozen?
- [16:47] <DM_> > The game is still running on the terminal to your right, if you wished to play.
- [16:47] <DM_> > However, I must warn you of one thing.
- [16:47] <DM_> > If you run the game, meteors will destroy Alternia.
- [16:48] <DM_> > Regarding being unfrozen, I doubt it.
- [16:48] <DM_> > The risk is too high.
- [16:48] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Understood
- [16:48] <Zhayko_Drelez> >No one troll knows more about risk than you
- [16:49] <DM_> > Thank you.
- [16:50] <Zhayko_Drelez> >So the choice stands
- [16:50] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Sacrifice the planet
- [16:50] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Become a god
- [16:50] <DM_> > Yes. That is your choice.
- [16:51] <Zhayko_Drelez> >If I play will traitors come for me?
- [16:52] <DM_> > I am unsure.
- [16:52] <DM_> > I will alert you if they approach, however.
- [16:53] <Zhayko_Drelez> >It is strange to have power
- [16:53] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I have the ability to cause an apocalypse
- [16:53] <DM_> > It is. However, all good leaders must utilize their power responsibly and for the greater good. It a lesson one learns through failure and repitition.
- [16:54] <DM_> *It is a
- [16:54] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I have always believed that the greater good has been self-efficiency
- [16:54] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Becoming a god would certainly allow me to be efficient
- [16:55] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Yet I would sacrifice many others who may be more efficient
- [16:56] <DM_> > It may be a possibility that you could come and save Alternia from meteors once ascending to godhood.
- [16:56] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Would that not cause a paradox?
- [16:56] <DM_> > The code referred to many external sources that I was unable to trace.
- [16:56] <DM_> > Even I, the semi-creator, do not know the ins and outs of this game.
- [16:56] <Zhayko_Drelez> >No event to lead me to your lab to play the game?
- [16:57] <DM_> > It might cause a paradox.
- [16:57] <DM_> > Or it might not.
- [16:57] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Another outcome to choose from
- [16:57] <DM_> > Paradoxes are odd occurrences, ones that not even I could even begin to comprehend.
- [16:57] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Play the game and attempt to save Alternia at the risk of destroying the universe with a paradox
- [16:57] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Or play the game and sacrifice Alternia with no intention to save it
- [16:58] <Zhayko_Drelez> >You are a master of avoiding risks
- [16:58] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Do you have any suggestions?
- [16:59] <DM_> > I have learned that some risks should be taken. I do not like taking risks, but if I have to, I will.
- [17:00] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Laying out every outcome
- [17:00] * Zhayko_Drelez begins to speak aloud as he types
- [17:01] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Do nothing and continue life as normal
- [17:01] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Play the game and destroy Alternia without trying to save it with newfound god powers
- [17:01] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Play the game and destroy Alternia while trying to save it with newfound god powers at the risk of destroying the universe instead
- [17:02] <DM_> > Those are the outcomes.
- [17:02] <DM_> > However, I neglected to mention one thing.
- [17:02] <DM_> > The Guardians in Guardian Base 1 are designed to stop the meteor rain playing the game would induce.
- [17:03] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Have they been tested?
- [17:03] <DM_> > I doubt they could do it infinitely, but they could buy you a bit of time to get your god powers without inducing a paradox.
- [17:04] <DM_> > Yes, but not on actual meteors.
- [17:04] <Zhayko_Drelez> >How long will it take to play the game?
- [17:05] <DM_> > I am again unsure. I estimate about a couple weeks, though.
- [17:06] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Roughly two weeks to receive god powers and learn to use them to save Alternia
- [17:06] <DM_> > I could be wrong.
- [17:07] <Zhayko_Drelez> >How long would you estimate the guardians could defend for?
- [17:07] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Less time, or more?
- [17:08] <DM_> > It depends on how long the meteor storm goes on for, and how rapid the meteors come down.
- [17:08] <DM_> > Probably less time.
- [17:08] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Roughly how much less>
- [17:09] <Zhayko_Drelez> *?
- [17:09] <DM_> > That depends. It could be anywhere from only lasting one minute to an hour or two less.
- [17:10] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Two hours less would be manageable
- [17:10] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Two weeks roughly, assume one week
- [17:10] <Zhayko_Drelez> >168 hours
- [17:11] <Zhayko_Drelez> >166 hours until guardians stop defending
- [17:11] <Zhayko_Drelez> >166 hours to win a game an learn to use god powers to protect Alternia
- [17:12] * Zhayko_Drelez weighs his odds.
- [17:12] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Sounds doable
- [17:12] <Zhayko_Drelez> >Efficiency is required
- [17:12] <Zhayko_Drelez> >I can be efficient
- [17:13] <DM_> > I know this is a terrible time to say this.
- [17:13] <DM_> > But, you just got some visitors.
- [17:13] <Zhayko_Drelez> "Wonderful" He says aloud.
- [17:13] <DM_> As you read that line, the door you came in from explodes.
- [17:13] <DM_> Two purplebloods wielding guns run out from it.
- [17:13] <DM_> They both point their weapons at you.
- [17:13] <Zhayko_Drelez> "Explain"
- [17:14] <DM_> As they do so, several security guns unfold from everywhere possible.
- [17:14] <DM_> > They are gunpowder triggered.
- [17:14] <DM_> > They will get one shot of, maximum.
- [17:14] <DM_> *off
- [17:14] <DM_> You have a feeling that if they shoot you, you will die.
- [17:15] <Zhayko_Drelez> "I said explain"
- [17:15] <DM_> One of them takes off safety, and glares at you impatiently, as if waiting for you to make a move.
- [17:16] <DM_> They seem unwilling to explain.
- [17:16] * Zhayko_Drelez slowly reaches up his hands as if in surrender.
- [17:16] <DM_> They're far enough away that they will get the shot off on you first if you try to attack.
- [17:17] <DM_> They don't seem to acknowledge your surrender.
- [17:17] <DM_> :05 seconds until fire
- [17:17] <DM_> :04
- [17:17] <DM_> :03
- [17:17] * Zhayko_Drelez casts Power Device on his skull.
- [17:17] <DM_> You do so.
- [17:17] * Zhayko_Drelez flairs to life and moves backwards towards the terminal currently displaying the game.
- [17:18] <DM_> :02
- [17:18] <DM_> :01
- [17:18] <DM_> :00
- [17:18] <DM_> They shoot, but the shot goes wide.
- [17:18] <DM_> Or maybe it doesn't.
- [17:19] <DM_> The bullet goes flying past you, shattering the ice, and embedding itself in the Failsafe's skull.
- [17:19] <DM_> The guns shoot both of them at rapid speeds, but it's too late.
- [17:19] <DM_> He's dead.
- [17:19] * Zhayko_Drelez drops everything and runs over to captchalogue the body of the failsafe, as well as the two corpses of the purplebloods.
- [17:20] <DM_> You drop everything, and do so. You now have five corpses in your body.
- [17:20] <DM_> The guns aim at you, somewhat quizzically, but eventually retract back into the walls.
- [17:20] * Zhayko_Drelez silently mourns the loss of his ancestor.
- [17:20] <Zhayko_Drelez> And yet, he wastes no time.
- [17:21] <Zhayko_Drelez> "166 hours"
- [17:21] <Zhayko_Drelez> "Start the timer"
- [17:21] * Zhayko_Drelez turns to the game, and begins playing.
- [17:21] <DM_> An internal timer pops up in your head. You have no idea where it came from, but it appears you can keep track of time flawlessly.
- [17:21] <DM_> You turn on the terminal on your right, and the word "SCratch" pops up.
