  4. This first part of Beyond Google has three parts:
  5.
  6. a. Choose an environmental topic that interests you. Do a 500-word minimum freewrite about why that subject interests you. What do you already know about this issue? How did you learn what you already know? What is it that you’d like to find out?
  7.
  8. b. Now, do some preliminary research to see what more you can learn. Search the internet and library databases, interview knowledgeable people, watch a documentary—glean as much information as you can from a variety of sources. Then pick the three most interesting sources of information that you find and prepare a report that includes complete bibliographic information and a paragraph-long summary of each source. See the “Information for a Working Bibliography” sheet for a list of bibliographic information to include.
  9.
  10. c. Finally, now that you’ve done preliminary research, what more do you want to know? Write a research question that you’d like to propose as the focus of your next step in this project.
