  1. PJC: concerning the runs over 37 minutes thing, i disagree
  2. PJC: many people in the lower parts of the LBs are competing against eachother regardless of whether it is to do with WRs or not
  3. PJC: so cheating on any position of the boards should be treated equally imo
  4. PJC: otherwise you basically disregard the people that aren't as skilled but worked hard to get to where they are on the table
  5. Spider-Waffle: I'm not so sure about the spam jumping if game was made today, you're really losing a lot good gameplay without that
  6. Spider-Waffle: likely we would make a mod that had the orginal quake style jump, and/or a tribes style, since half-life was open source and moding, really what made it different and successful
  7. Spider-Waffle: kind like what AG did, or FF
  8. Spider-Waffle: runs over a certain point are still free to provide demos and webcams if they want or any means to further proove legitamcy, and moderators should work to prevent abuse
  9. Spider-Waffle: but requiring the same level of proof for the best times and ALL other times ends up making people less likely to go for lower times or submit putting extra hurdles in the way
  10. Spider-Waffle: for new WR, obvisouly you want a high level of sucrity, proof, and little doubt of it's legitamacy; but as times get worse it starts to be less important, and community involvment and freedom to play becomes more prioritized
  11. Spider-Waffle: like any sports league doesn't put their best officals, adminstrators, drug testing procedures/policies in their farm leagues, it's more lax, and then tighter as you get up
  12. Spider-Waffle: at least this has worked for the-elite.net, recording a video with VCR or DVD of a console was a lot more of a burdon than recording a demo though
  13. Spider-Waffle: what happens though is you get more casual players legimating forgetting to record a demo thnking they did when they get their new PR, and not being able to accept it is a deterient from further praticapation.
  14. PJC: agreed i'd prefer spam over no spam, just saying if there was to be a true 'scriptless' category then ideally you'd ban all spam
  15. PJC: tbh i'd prefer to stick to what we're capable of in the original game, and what we are capable of is creating automatic jumping, albeit you lose the "skill" (if you can even call it that) of timing but at least that's something that is available originally
  16. PJC: and yeah obvs WRs and top times attract more attention, not to mention that top players should know how to provide extra means of proof from experience so shouldn't be hassle for them
  17. PJC: myself, yalter and exec have been working on a client and i'd like to add demo recording binds to the keyboard options since that stuff can be pretty intimidating for newer players
  18. PJC: and yes, that's already happened a few times, where people have not read the rules or they've forgotten about certain things. one person was even put off submitting times because we weren't able to accept his run
  19. PJC: so ideally the formatting of rules, instructions, guidelines etc need to stand out and be 100% clear
  20. PJC: i've been talking to exec about reworking the sourceruns site to cater to each community more
  21. PJC: so we'll have game pages for every game that the site supports, along with the appropriate pages
  22. Spider-Waffle: maybe a true a scriptless category without spam would be better, I'd be pretty unenthuased about it though, more interested in no scripts but way to jump without losing speed reliably, kind of moot
  23. Spider-Waffle: and I used to jump with just mouse2 +jump, for first 4-6 years of playing TFC very compeitively
  24. Spider-Waffle: years of weekly clan matches
  25. PJC: with the decentjump script or without?
  26. PJC: because i played with decentjump script bound to mouse3 for 4-5 years in AG
  27. Spider-Waffle: with just "bind mouse2 +jump"
  28. Spider-Waffle: played back before 1.1.08 too, first year commonly rocket boost for speed and keep hoping, but obvisouly not super consistent
  29. Spider-Waffle: so I gave a "fair" try, more than any I know of in history, then spent another 5 years using decent jump
  30. Spider-Waffle: that's how I arrived at my stance
  31. PJC: problem i find with decentjump is that you're still at a disadvantage against mwheel users
  32. PJC: for example in op4, when you're moving across the polygonal, bumpy grounds of "The Package", mwheel users can just scroll without timing jumps to get across
  33. PJC: whereas decentjump users would have to manually time the jumps
  34. Spider-Waffle: like with a free spin wheel?
  35. PJC: nope, even with a locked wheel you can just scroll slowly and you're basically spamming jump and getting over the bumpy ground without needing to be aware of the timing
  36. PJC: or just scroll really fast
  37. Spider-Waffle: where is this?
  38. PJC: very beginning of "The Package" in opposing force, will try and look for the map name
  39. Spider-Waffle: I see some things like a low cieling vent
  40. PJC: of6a1
  41. PJC: in a scriptless run you usually machine gun boost across that entire area all the way up to the wall where the artillery is being fired at you
  42. PJC: but to maintain the speed you obvs need to be able to time the jumps across that uneven ground
  43. PJC: i haven't tested it but i'm imagining it would be more difficult for decentjumpers to get across there than for a mwheel users
  44. PJC: (taking into account you're facing backwards the whole time)
