  1. Preface
  2.
  3. This is the private notebook graciously bestowed upon the Witch Apprentice Nadja _______________, by her kind and generous mistress, Chevalier Julie de Vite, The Raven, Student of Redwing, Slayer of Velithis, Bane of Lents, Mediator of Esaille, Ender of William Blackfoot, Ender of Émile Leblanc, Ender of Anton Trudeau, Ender of Stefan Richter, Teacher of Weeping Lily, Teacher of The Sparrow, and Warden of Burchwald.
  4.
  5. The apprentice is to use this book to store and remember the lessons and secrets taught by her mistress. The apprentice is to keep the contents of this book away from the eyes of all others. The apprentice is not to use this book as a diary.
  6.
  7. The structure to be used for proper keeping of notes is provided by the kind and generous mistress. The section on Witchcraft is also provided by the kind and generous mistress to give the apprentice an overview of general information relevant to her craft. The section Additional Pages is intended for anything the apprentice feels is also deserving of a place in her notebook.

  29. Three Pledges
  30. These pledges must be taken by all witches during their Rite of Initiation. A witch who fails to adhere to her pledges is no better than the vilest wizard and is to be treated as such. The pledges are as follows:
  31.
  32. The Pledge of Ambition
  33. The witch pledges to use the power granted to her to its greatest extent so that it may serve her purposes fully.
  34.
  35. The Pledge of Secrecy
  36. The witch pledges to keep the knowledge and arts granted to her secret from all who have not taken the pledges.
  37.
  38. The Pledge of Vengeance
  39. The witch pledges to actively hunt down and torment any wizard foolish enough to trespass on her domain or otherwise make him- or herself known to the witch. She will unleash every ounce of cruelty she can muster upon the wizard until such a time as the wizard's life comes to an end, either by his own hand or by forcing the hand of the witch.
  40.
  41. Rite of Initiation
  42. On the night of the Joining, the apprentice will proceed to an appropriate location appointed by her kind and generous mistress and await the beginning of the Joining. She will enter the clearly marked ritual area, unburdened by clothes or other belongings. She will then present her personally prepared oath to the Sisters Joined. The oath absolutely must include the Three Pledges, and should be kept brief so as not to test the patience of the Sisters.
  43.
  44. Once the oath has been spoken, the apprentice will remain within the ritual area until the Day Star releases her from her plight. If the apprentice fails to stay alive during this time, her mistress is required to administer an appropriate punishment.

  48. Herbalism
  49.
  50. Herbalism is divided into two fields, both of which the apprentice is expected to achieve at least basic aptitude within before being released from apprenticeship. Those fields are non-magical potions and magical potions. The first rely entirely on the natural properties of plants, whereas the second also makes use of magical Sparkles to achieve greater effects.
  51.
  52. Non-magical Recipes
  53.
  54. -- Rejuvenating Tea --
  55. 1. Heat exactly six Imperial cups of water to the point of boiling
  56. 2. Pour the boiling water over two average sized and four small leaves from the Dragonsscale bush and a single average-sized leaf from the Ravensblood flower
  57. 3. Allow the tea to steep for exactly 176 seconds
  58. 4. Serve the tea unstrained (with a smile!)
  59. "The first recipe Mistress taught me. Not for children!"
  60.

  62.
  63. -- Glutton's Potion --
  64. Effect:
  65. - Relieving of digestive issues.
  66.
  67. Ingredients (1 small vial):
  68. - 5 large specimens of Wormroot
  69. - 7 dried leaves from the Widow's Tears flower.
  70. - 10 cups of water
  71. - 1 cup of sugar (optional)
  72.
  73. Preparation:
  74. 1. Thoroughly grind the Wormroot with mortar and pestle until it is reduced to a powdery substance.
  75. 2. Heat the water to boiling, then thoroughly stir in the powdered Wormroot.
  76. 3. Add the leaves. Optionally roll the leaves in sugar before adding, to cover up the bitter taste.
  77. 4. Boil and stir the mixture until it turns aquamarine.
  78. 5. Fill a single vial using only the surface layer of the mixture. Discard the remains.

  84. Penmanship
  85.
  86. Penmanship is divided into two fields, both of which the apprentice is expected to achieve at least basic aptitude within before being released from apprenticeship. Those fields are hexes beneficent and hexes maleficent. The former can be crudely summarized as hexes that benefit the target, whereas the latter are hexes that harm the target.

  94. Infusion
  95.
  96. No division exists within the study of Infusion. The apprentice is expected to achieve at least basic aptitude within this study before being released from apprenticeship. Infusion is the art of granting magical properties to inanimate objects, mainly objects of wood though exceptions exist, through the application of sparkles.

  102. Additional Pages
  103.
  104. Pages completely at the disposal of the Apprentice, to do with as she wishes.

  106.
  107. Strange (important?) Occurrences:
  108.
  109. Strange dream after Rite
  110. After my Initiation in the forest I fell asleep and had a weird dream. In it I stood in a small room with one picture on each wall other than the wall with the door. The pictures were portraits of Papa, my Mistress and me. Papa and Mistress were looking at me. The pictures were so detailed they felt eerie! In the middle was a purple sparkle on a stand. Someone had written not to touch the sparkle on the pedestal. On the door was written not to leave. I left the room anyway and saw a strange figure, but then I woke up.
  111. Maybe I should have done something with the pictures?
  112.
  113. Creatures:
  114.
  115. Fairies:
  116. One stole my clothes and stuff after the Initiation! Her name was Flimflam. Fairies seem to lie a lot.
