  1. Th’ cold streets ain’t exactly a pleasant place even in th’ small towns out in other regions. In th’ bigger cities in Unova? Well, I’m lucky t’be alive. I’d still say where I came from was worse. My momma’s dead, an’ I never met my dad, even though I heard about ‘im. Don’t know where we shoved off from, but we ended up in a tiny li’l town called Lacunosa.
  2.
  3. There’s an ol’ myth about a monster that snatches kids away out there, y’know. That’s why th’ town is walled an’ gated. Well, turns out some folks’re real serious about not lettin’ you go. Momma fell in with a church community. Most of ‘em, good people, if cowed int’ obedience. Th’ head of th’whole thing liked t’tell ‘em that faith in Arceus would save ‘em from th’ beast. But if they stepped outta line, they were nothin’ but another meal.
  4.
  5. Me, I never bought it. If I couldn’t see it, it may as well have not existed at all. And by that point, disease took my eyes an’ I couldn’t see anything. ‘Course, that got me beat. Got me beat bad. They didn’t dare leave their little walled off community in a walled off city t’get medical care, an’ that cost me my momma. One time I tried t’climb the wall t’escape and fell off, an’ they just left me there. Permanently fucked my leg, but it didn’t stop me tryin’ to get out.
  6.
  7. One night once they were all shut up in their houses, I just… bolted. Got right outta town with no resistance… ‘course, then I was a blind cripple tryin’ to find her way around a big ol’ world who wasn’t much for her. Huddled up in a cave, first thing. It was cold n’ dank but I would’a rather been there than in that town. Couple days, I spent, not eatin’ an’ shiverin’ till somethin’ big an’ furry found me. Couldn’t rightly tell what it was at th’time, but it took pity on li’l ol’ me. Brought me food, kept me warm. Became a homeless whelp’s first partner. Didn’t find out till later that it was a Lucario.

  9. I spent a while in th’ crater where he came from, an’ found another partner. Smaller, an’ sharper. A Weavile, who took a likin’ to me. I named her after Momma, an’ I named the Lucario after th’ dad I never met.
  10.
  11. ‘Course, nothin’ ever stays good for long. One day, it got a lot colder ‘n usual. I couldn’t tell why they were tryin’ to get me to run. Didn’t know till th’ second I felt cold in th’air worse’n anything I ever felt. Heard the stompin’. Heard the roarin’. I tried t’follow, but… m’damn leg wouldn’t let me. All I could really do was lay there in th’cold, flash-frozen grass n’ wait for the end.
  12.
  13. Th’end never came.
  14.
  15. Heard a howl rattle over th’chasm. Heard paws makin’ a beeline for me. Heard steel smack against ice an’ felt the dampness of a faerie fog. Somethin’ pushed me over its head an’ carried me off. Could feel th’ long fur. Th’ scars, many as mine. Far as I know, brought me back t’my new partners, then it was gone. We fucked off from that place after that. Never went back.
  16.
  17. Well, I guess I didn’t really know what happened ‘till a lot later. Not till the first time I held a knife in my hand. Filched it off some smug fuck tryin’ to mug me, an I was shocked that it felt so right in my hand. Hell, maybe I wanted it t’be a li’l longer. Whatever I did after that… I felt the burnin’ of somethin’ around the blade, an’ I sure did scare off that bastard. Spent a while tryin’ to do that again after that. Usin’ it to get alleyway dumpster fires away from folks who were just tryin’ to get by. Couple times toward the end I started runnin’ int’ lunatics they said was wearin’ cheap armor lookin’ uniforms.
  18.
  19. Left Unova a while back an’ came here. It was quieter here, but not without people that needed defendin’. Gave my wanderin’ ass a purpose. Found a dealer t’get me help with th’leg pain, ‘cept I think he might’a been a Zoroark in disguise. Got a cane, an’ got myself a seein’ eye Meowstic. But I kept doin’ what I do. Stealin’ an’ protectin’ those folks what don’t have nothin’ to steal from. ‘Course, at some point, I must’a defended the wrong person. Swiped th’knife right outta my hand, dragged me off.
  20.
  21. Now, heh. Now I’m here an’ my partners ain’t nowhere to be seen. Nothin’ stays good forever.
