  1. alright I mean this as a fan of both bands, but this is honestly the dumbest post I have ever seen in my life.
  2.
  3. Let’s start with this: yeah members of both bands have used slurs before, however there’s a huge difference between MSIs use of slurs and MCRs? Definitely they’ve all used the f slur and the c word casually, which is problematic but honestly the biggest difference for me is the fact that MCR (for the most part, frank still at times wears things with the c word on it and it can be assumed he says it in private) has stopped and MSI hasnt. Especially in the case of the n-slur (which to my understanding, MCR have never used) which MSI say all the time in their cover bring the pain. Jimmy, to my understanding, is Hispanic/White not black and as such literally has no reason or right to be saying that word. They did that song up until last tour and that’s what bothers me. That also brings me to my second point which is, when it comes to the slurs the MCRS use of them were almost always separated from their studio music. I can listen to mcrs entire discography without ever once hearing a slur where as I can not do that with MSI. don’t compare the two as if they are used the same way by both bands cause the arent.

  5. Next: With regards to “problematic themes” in each bands music honestly? Death and murder (I’ll reach the stuff about killing his girlfriend in my next point) is not actually problematic from a social justice point of view. Most of the deaths in mcr albums are actually the suicides or (in the case of tbp) the result of a terminal illness. With regards to the murder aspect being problematic, they would have to be as a result of bigoted feelings towards a marginalized party. The murders through out mcrs music do not reflect that. That being said, the murders that do happen are not exactly glorified? Gerard does definitely romanticize them at times, which again I’ll touch on in my next point, but 99% of the time the perpetrators were literally being punished for their actions? Like there is no mcr song where gerard is literally glorifying murder in cold blood.

  7. When people talk about problematic themes in MSIs music they mean songs like panty shot which is literally about a guy who is looking up a five year old girls legs. Like, I don’t care that it’s supposed to be satire that song is gross. I don’t care that they are educated and I know and trust that they would never do those things. That song is super gross and I can not listen to it. The issue with MSIs music is that at times while satirizing offensive things it fails to come off as a satire! If your satire isn’t explicitly clear that the thing it’s satirizing is wrong, then it’s gross, problematic, and wrong. End of story.

  9. suicide ideation for this section//

  11. Now, I’m guessing when you said “gerard killing his girlfriend” that you were referring to bullets cause I can’t think of another instance where gerard talks about killing a lover. You are severely misreading either the tone of the album or the reason why the “murdered my girlfriend” trope is problematic, or both. The reason why the “I murdered my girlfriend” trope is problematic is because it reflects the entitlement cis men express towards women and the toxic amount of rage they are allowed to express. In the punk community, there are so many examples of albums written about killing your girlfriend/love interest for the heinous crime of breaking up with you, or cheating on you, or just not liking you to begin with. That’s literally not what bullets is about? Bullets is a romanticization of Gerards self-loathing and suicidal thoughts. Skylines, Best Day Ever, and Our lady of Sorrows are not about murder at all. Vampires is literally a song he wrote about realizing he was becoming an alcoholic and wanting to die before that could happen (also in that song his lover kills him not the other way around). Headfirst is about suicide. Cubicles is about feeling lonely and stagnant in his life. I don’t read Drowning Lessons as even being about love/ a lover but If you want to argue that a woman does die in it that could be his lover I remind you that this song doesn’t express the entitled sense of anger needed for it to be problematic. Simply writing a song about having a hand in the death of a lover isn’t what makes something problematic. Early sunsets is the only song where he really discusses killing his girlfriend and it’s not angry. It’s a desperate song about wondering if you have the guts to end something terrible even if it was once perfect but has now become corrupted. The only song on bullet that really displays anger towards, who I assume to be an ex-girlfriend, is Honey where in he doesn’t actually kill her he just talks about how has no sympathy for her. That doesn’t excuse it but honestly to say that Gerard wrote tons of songs about killing his girlfriend is so untrue! The only song left on bullets at this point is Demolition Lovers which is honestly the best example of Gerards romanticization of death. The song is basically saying I’ll love you until we die, and implies a Bonnie and Clyde style death of dying after committing some sort of crime or a suicide pact. At no point does Gerard express entitled anger towards his girlfriend or the desire to kill her in some horrific way. The romanticization of Bonnie and Clyde is of course problematic in some way cause they were my good people, they thieved and killed, but this album isnt some sort of sexist letter at an ex girlfriend. Its suicide and self loathing set to a backdrop of two doomed lovers. This is also the only album to feature themes like this (even I never told you what I do for a living on revenge features Gerards death, not his lovers)
  12.
  13. To wrap up, while both bands have been problematic, the extent and continued manner of MSIs issues is what poses the problem for many people with their music. The comparison between the two bands is not fair to make at all, and while I do enjoy both the implication that mcr is nearly as problematic as MSI is preposterous.
