  1. This story has pony-personality swaps based off: http://derpibooru.org/360458
  2. With the exception that Twilight isn’t an Alicorn.
  3.
  4. >You’re sitting alone in the bar, as per usual, you had a long day at work and this is where you come to relax, with the barmare and a glass of whatever takes your fancy at the time.
  5. >You stare down into your glass when the purple unicorn takes a seat next to you. You glance at her and notice her gloomy look.
  6. “Hey Twilly, what’s the matter?”
  7. >”My friends. No matter what I think of, I can’t fix this.” she hides her face with her hooves and you give her a pat on the back as you finish off the rest of your drink.
  8. “Maybe it’s time you stopped, they’ve all managed to adjust in their new lives and they’re all happy.”
  9. >”B-but, they aren’t themselves anymore. I miss my old friends.”
  10. >She looks up to you with tears welling up in her eyes, looking for some way to hold them back.
  11. “In my world, people change all the time. The people I met in highschool are completely different people now. But that doesn’t make them any less my friends.”
  12. >”You’re right.” She lets out a sigh and stares at your empty glass.
  13. “Want one?”
  14. >”Oh no, I don’t drink.”
  15. “Shame, it’s good.”
  16. >”I’ll bet, you’re here almost every night.”
  17. “And?”
  18. >”No reason,” she lets out a deep sigh, “Alright I’ll give it a shot.”
  19. >You ask the barmare for two drinks and when she returns with your drinks, you and Twilight take a drink except she downs the whole glass.
  20. >“AHHH! It burns.” she exclaims with a scrunchy face. Cute.
  21. “Let’s try that again,” you ask for another drink, “Now this time, don’t down it all. Pace yourself or I’m going to have to carry you home.”
  22. >You laugh when you notice a slur in Twilight’s speech already.
  23. “Damn, I’ve never seen such a lightweight.”
  24. >”Wha-I am not.”
  25. “Relax, it’s because you don’t drink. Drink enough like me and you’ll be here all night trying to get drunk.”
  26. >”I’ll pass.”
  27. “Good, we don’t need more alcoholics in this town.” you gesture with a nod over to Berry Punch who now is falling off her barstool and flat onto her face.
  28. >You both share a laugh. “Is she alright?”
  29. “Yeah, she’s always like that.”
  30. >”Anon can I ask you something?”
  31. “You just did.”
  32. >You just laugh as she gives you a deadpan stare.
  33. >”How can you adjust to everyone just becoming such different people like that?”
  34. ”Well honestly, they’re still the same to me, they just have different roles in life now. What happened to all that love, tolerance and acceptance crap that friendship is all about?”
  35. >”Good point, but you love and accepted one in particular haven’t you, Anon?” she looks at you with a sly grin.
  36. “What are you on about?”
  37. >”You asked Rarity on a date, didn’t you?”
  38. >You just facepalm.
  39. ”It’s not a date.”
  40. >”That’s what everypony seems to think, including Rarity.”
  41. “How does everyone think it’s a date?”
  42. >”You asked her to a fancy restaurant.”
  43. “It’s just to say thank you for everything she’s done for me and besides Rarity loves fancy restaurants.”
  44. >”Yes but she’s more of a party pony now.”
  45. “I made the reservation before the personality switch. I just didn’t ask her until after.”
  46. >Twilight stares into her drink after taking a big gulp.
  47. “I told you to pace yourself, don’t have so much at once.”
  48. >”I’m fine.”
  49. “You pass out and I’m leaving you here until Spike comes to find you.”
  50. >”I said I’m fine!” she shouts, everyone in the bar looks over to you.
  51. >’Alright, so Twilight is a cranky drunk.’ you think to yourself as you finish off your drink.
  52. “Come on, let’s go.”
  53. >”Okay.”
  54. >She leaves her drink unfinished on the bar and jumps off her stool. She wobbles a little but walks straight for the most part, she hangs her head as you walk her back to her house.
  55. >You both keep silent for the walk, only the sounds of your steps can be heard throughout the cold, dead night.
  56. >When you make it to the treebrary, Twilight walks inside and turns to face you.
  57. >”I’m sorry, for being such a depressing drunk back there.”
  58. “To be fair, you’ve been a depressing sober too.”
  59. >She just groans in frustration while slamming the door shut.
  60. “Way to go Anon, you have a gift with words.”
  61. >You throw up your arms up in frustration before walking home.
  62. >When you arrive home, you decide to just crash on the couch but in your intoxicated stupor you miscalculated and just fall on the floor.
  63. “Fuck it.”
  64. >You curl up and just use the floor as the bed tonight.
  65. ---
  66. >You’re woken to the sunlight hitting your eyes. You stand up with stiff joints and walk over to close the curtains, before you do you look out the window and see Rarity with balloons tied into her mane while struggling to carry some bags.
  67. >You head outside and go give her a hand, she panics a little when she notices you walking over.
  68. >”Oh, Anonymous Darling, what are you doing?”
  69. “Hi Rarity, nice to see you too. Need a hand?”
  70. >”No thanks, I’m quite alright.” she tries to pick up all the bags with her mouth to no avail.
  71. >You just roll your eyes and take the bags from her.
  72. >”Anon, it’s fine, I can do it myself.”
  73. “You’re welcome.”
  74. >She just follows close behind you nervously, avoiding any eye contact with you.
  75. “What’s got you so jittery?”
  76. >Silence and a look in the opposite direction is her response.
  77. “Tell me or I’ll pop your balloons.”
  78. >You’re given a look like you’ve threatened to kill her cat.
  79. >”B-But this is... My latest... Fine. I wanted to surprise you with my latest dress design tomorrow night.”
  80. >She hangs her head to the floor and you feel a pang in your chest.
  81. “I haven’t looked in the bags and I have no idea what it’ll look like so I’ll still be surprised.”
  82. >”Oh yeah!”
  83. >The bounce in her step returns, or rather skip. You watch with a smile the balloons bob up and down as she happily skips along with a wide happy grin.
  84. >You drop her and her stuff off at her house and head back home.
  85. ---
  86. >It’s the night of the dinner, not date.
  87. >You’re wearing a suit that Rarity made for you a long time ago, it reminds you of those high class Ermenegildo Zegna suits that rich people would wear.
  88. >It’s a two piece with a rich, smooth black colour with grey pinstripes. A peaked lapel with three buttons on the jacket and simple pants to match. Your undershirt is a bright shade of white with a regal purple tie with Rarity’s old jewel cutie mark stitched onto it as her signature.
  89. >You admire your suit in the mirror.
  90. “Holy shit, a sexy devil is trapped in my mirror. Oh wait, that’s just my reflection.”
  91. >You laugh at yourself and head off to Rarity’s.
  92. >When you arrive you knock and she quickly answers the door.
  93. >”What do you think, exquisite, no?”
  94. >She’s in a white dress with a draped bodice and a tiered skirt, along her waist is a purple ribbon to match her mane. Her mane is has been curled into a wavy style but still has it’s messy nature.
  95. “You look beautiful,” you blurt out.
  96. >Her cheeks turn a bright shade of red at your compliment.
  97. >”So... Where are we going?”
  98. “The Gilded Giraffe.”
  99. >”WHAT?! H-How’d you get a reservation there?! It’s the most exclusive restaurant in Ponyville.”
  100. “That’s my secret. Now shall we?”you say as you gesture down the path.
  101. >The two of you then walk together, talking about Rarity’s business and dresses. She might be a carefree party pony now but she still loves her fashion.
  102. >You arrive at the Gilded Giraffe and it’s fancier than you thought it would have been. Everyone is in the fanciest clothes, with the same snooty look. It’s a little intimidating considering you’re low class to these ponies.
  103. >You’re taken to your seats and place your orders. While you’re waiting for your food the two of continue your conversation and begin to notice Rarity eyeing your tie. You look down at it and notice her old cutie mark on it. You decide to straight out ask about it.
  104. “Do you ever miss your old self?”
  105. >”Where ever did that come from?”
  106. “I saw you staring at the tie and your old cutie mark on it made me wonder.”
  107. >”Well... Of course I sometimes miss it. That’s not to say I’m not happy with who I am now, I just feel like I lost a part of me but when I try to go back to the way I used to be... It doesn’t feel right.”
  108. “Really, even right now, here?”
  109. >She nods.
  110. >”I still love this kind of thing and I’m very happy you brought me here, but...”
  111. “You feel like you don’t belong?”
  112. >She nods again.
  113. “Fair enough, but you still do the stuff you used to.”
  114. >”Not exactly, I still design outfits yes but not for these ponies anymore.”
  115. “Why not? You still can, look at the one you did yesterday.” you gesture to her dress.
  116. >”Actually Anon, I made this one a long time ago, I’ve just never worn it.”
  117. “Well what one did you design then?”
  118. >”It’s a bright dress with assorted colours, nothing like this. I chose not the wear it because... Well I’d feel like I don’t fit in here.”
  119. “I know the feeling.”
  120. >”What do you mean?”
  121. “I work in a cafe as a waiter, I’m low class compared to these ponies.”
  122. >”That’s not true!”
  123. “Rarity, I’m fine with it but if you don’t feel right here then let’s go somewhere else.”
  124. >”B-but what about your reservation?”
  125. “Well we can stay, but I’m pretty sure there’s a cupcake at Sugarcube Corner with your name on it.”
  126. >Her eyes light up and she jumps off her chair, “What’re you waiting for?”
  127. >You let out a small laugh at her as the two of you head off to Sugarcube Corner.
  128. >When you open the door the bell rings out and Mrs. Cake walks into the room.
  129. >”Ooh, hello dearies, you two look lovely.”
  130. >”Thank you Mrs. Cake, Anonymous and I thought we’d dress up for the occasion.”
  131. >”And what’s the occasion?”
  132. >”Cupcakes!” Rarity begins to eagerly bouncing on the spot.
  133. >”I’m afraid I don’t follow.”
  134. >You just laugh at Rarity’s antics.
  135. “Never mind her, can we get a few cupcakes please?”
  136. >”Of course, I’ll be right back.”
  137. >When Mrs Cake gets back you’re given a batch of warm cupcakes.
  138. “Aren’t these for tomorrow?”
  139. >”Well yes, but anypony who looks as nice as you two deserves it.”
  140. >”Thanks Mrs. Cake!”
  141. >Rarity wastes no time digging into them, and making quite the mess for that matter.
  142. >You take a bite of your cupcake when some icing smacks into the side of your face.
  143. “Rarity!”
  144. >She snickers at your monotone voice and cupcake face.
  145. >”Yes darling?”
  146. >You turn to her and she’s got the most innocent smile she can muster, you can almost see a halo forming above her head.
  147. >You don’t say another word, you just scoop the icing off your cupcake and throw it right into her face.
  148. >”Well I never!” Rarity glares at you.
  149. “I’ll pay for these after!” you exclaim to Mrs Cake as you pick up the tray of cupcakes, the heat searing your hand, and run outside.
  150. >”Get back here!” Rarity shouts, giving chase.
  151. >You get outside and place the cupcake on the water fountain’s edge. You then turn and start launching them at Rarity.
  152. >She catches a few with her magic but you land one in her hair.
  153. >”I’m going to get you for that.” she calls out with a sinister grin.
  154. >She launches all the cupcakes she caught at you and they all hit your suit except for one which gets you right in the eye.
  155. “AHH! Icing in my eye!” you shout, stumbling backwards and trip on the fountain’s edge. Before you hit the water Rarity catches you in her magic.
  156. >You look over to her smiling sweetly, but you know better than that.
  157. “Rarity! I know what you’re thinking.”
  158. >”Whatever do you mean Anonymous?” she bats her eyes, feigning ignorance.
  159. “If you drop me then I’ll need a new suit, please don’t-”
  160. >”That’s a shame.” she interrupts as her magic’s grip releases you and you fall in.
  161. >She waits for you to get out but you float in the water, motionless.
  162. >”Anon, I know you’re okay, get up.”
  163. >You stay silent, you’re going to get her for this.
  164. >”Anon? This isn’t funny” her tone shows concern.
  165. >”Oh, Celestia, what have I done? ANON!” her voice now erratic, she rushes over to the fountain and her eyes fill with dread when she sees you smiling in the water’s surface.
  166. >”No-no-no! My dress!”
  167. >She tries to turn tail and run but you grab her and bring her into the fountain with you.
  168. “That’s a shame.”
  169. >”MY DRESS!”
  170. “Cool off.” you laugh while you splash her with water.
  171. >She then casts a spell and causes a tidal wave of water to wash over you.
  172. >You get bowled over.
  173. “I surrender, no more.” you say, coughing and spluttering the water you swallowed.
  174. >Rarity goes into a giggling fit.
  175. >The two of you spend a little longer in the fountain together just talking about the stars, Rarity rests her head on your shoulder.
  176. >You look at her and notice that under the moonlight and the light’s reflection in the fountain, she looks stunning. You’ve never seen her like this before and you liked it. You can’t help but give a big, stupid grin.
  177. >”Look! Those ones look like balloons.”
  178. >You’re snapped out of your trance and look up to where she is pointing.
  179. “Yeah and those look like cupcakes.”
  180. >”Where?”
  181. “There!”
  182. >”I don’t see them, I think the cold water is affecting your head.” she giggles a little.
  183. “Alright, but we should get out of this, wouldn’t want to catch a cold.”
  184. >You both get out the fountain and head back to Rarity’s.
  185. >When you arrive at her door, she turns and faces you with an anxious look.
  186. >”Say um, Anon can I ask you something?”
  187. “Of course, what’s the matter?”
  188. >”Uhm... W-Was this a date? L-Like a proper one?”
  189. >You hear your heart thump throughout your entire body, you try to answer but your mouth won’t open and speak. You told yourself beforehand it wasn’t but now, you’ve realised something. So instead you don’t answer, you just kneel down to her level and plant a kiss on her lips.
  190. >Her warm lips freeze at first but then she kisses you back,. and when you break the kiss she stares into your eyes, shocked. You wanted to continue the kiss, and over and over again but you don’t want to rush anything.
  191. Her cheeks have turned the brightest shade of red and she struggles to say a single word. You give her a warm smile.
  192. “I think that answers it, Good night Rarity.”
  193. >You stand up and walk home, trying to regain a steady heartbeat and Rarity rushes inside and lets out a loud squeal of excitement that you hear.
  194. >You can’t help but wear the largest smile you’ve ever had as you think about taking her out again for another date soon.
