  1. Tempest Board Game - 2 Players
  2.
  3. Equipment:
  4. • 8x8 Board

  5. • 32 Black Pieces and 32 White Pieces (or any distinguishable pieces)

  6. An Othello board works rather well
  7.
  8. Quick Rules:
  9. • The two players take it in turn to place a piece of their colour in any legal position

  10. • If a player is able to capture some enemy pieces, he must do so on his turn

  11. • The winner is the first person to form an 8-in-a-row with his pieces. This may be horizontally, vertically or diagonally

  12.
  13. Capturing Pieces:
  14. • A line of a certain player's pieces is captured if both of the following conditions are true:

  15. ◦ It has an enemy piece on both ends

  16. ◦ It is continuous (i.e. has no gaps in it)

  17. • When a line is captured, all of the pieces are removed from the board. The pieces may be played on later turns

  18. • NB: lines of pieces may of horizontal, vertical or diagonal

  19.
  20. Legal Positions:
  21. • Any move that would result in the loss of the piece played on that turn is illegal
  22. • Unlike in the game Go, a move is still illegal if it would capture an enemy piece that was making the move illegal
  23. • It is also illegal to place a piece on top of another piece
  24.
  25. Extra Rules and Clarification:
  26. • When a player is forced to capture enemy pieces, the quantity of those pieces captured is irrelevant. If Position A would capture four enemy pieces whereas Position B would only capture one, the player would have the choice of either position

  27. • A player is neither forced nor allowed to capture enemy pieces if the capturing position is illegal

  28. • A player cannot play in an illegal position even if that would make an 8-in-a-row

  29. • If there are no legal moves for a player to make, he is forced to pass. A player may not pass if there are any legal moves to make
. If both players pass consecutively, the game ends as a draw
