  18.
  19. Sonic sat on the ground and leaned against a wall. The room was hot and stuffy and sported a wide range of industrial smells. The oil stuck out the most. He held his head down and focused on holding his composure together while in the presence of Eggman who was laughing a distance away. Sonic figured he was in some sort of enclosure or else Eggman would be a laughing lot closer. The stress of the fact that the chaos emeralds did not restore his sight, along with the constant hum and vibrating of the structure he was in as along with Eggman’s laughing moved Sonic’s focus from keeping his cool to keeping his dinner.
  20.
  21. Eggman noticed Sonic’s pained expression on his face and decided it was time to give his speech before he left. “Get used to it, rat! This is your life now! You can kiss your freedom goodbye… This cage is your new home now!” This wasn’t the first time he had trapped Sonic and he had full expectations that Sonic would inevitably escape. This was the natural way of the world, thus his speeches were mainly etiquette at this point. Eggman had no idea how relevant his words actually were.
  22.
  23. Sonic buried his head in his arms to hide his tears as he heard Eggman march away. An indeterminate period of time passed while Sonic listened to the hum of the airship before Eggman’s footsteps returned. “And here’s your food.” Eggman grunted as he threw a bowl on the ground. A few pieces of whatever was in the bowl fell out and rattled around on the ground. Eggman promptly made his exit again. Not only was Sonic far from being hungry but he was in no mood to go search for whatever meal Eggman had given him, which was somewhere in his enclosure. He stayed put to reflect on the situation he was in.
  24.
  25. Eggman spent the greater part of the day aboard his ship reading about the chaos emeralds. He clearly had missed a part of their lore or else Sonic would not have been healed by his super state. He watched with his own eyes as Sonic went from cowering by the door to destroying one of his bases. That is, before Eggman himself finished the job. By a stroke of luck, Sonic’s super state ran out as he was passing through the Egg Space One. Even better luck, the ship had taken minimal damage. Just a few puncture wounds.
  26.
  27. After the umpteenth time of reading the lore, Eggman began to edit the files to add his newly acquired data. Before he could get too far into his file edits, he glanced over a security camera feed on another monitor. He watched as Sonic walked along the perimeter of his enclosure running his hand against each wall. The gears in Eggman’s mind started turning faster as he started towards his ship’s prison block.
  28.
  29. Sonic had confirmed at this point that he was in a rectangular enclosure. He stopped walking when he heard Eggman’s steps. Being at the wall of his cage, Sonic could hear Eggman a bit closer than before.
  30.
  31. The master planner was not about to waste any time. “You’re blind, aren’t you?”
  32.
  33. Sonic rested his head against the bars of his cage with a thud. The lack of a verbal response after a period of time was the confirmation Eggman needed. The evil genius started to chuckle before it escalated into full blown laughter. Between breaths Eggman fought to say something but the laughter did not stop. It was not until the fat man was hunched over on the ground when he could regain his breath enough to start talking.
  34.
  35. “Where do I start!? The fact that you’re blind, the fact that your friends took a blind hedgehog into the heart of my base or that your super form was wasted?!” That was the most Eggman could get out before he reverted back into a laughing fit. “And…! And as a bonus, you managed to land yourself in the heart of my battleship!” He howled with more laughter, no longer concerned with making too much of a fool of himself in front of his arch nemesis. “Now I know why you didn’t attack me last night! You couldn’t see me!” The hysteric man leaned back and projected his laughter as loud as he could. “This is too rich!” Eggman’s laughter started to slow as he began to feel dizzy. “I… I can’t resist! If you can escape my battleship in five minutes, I’ll let you go!” Eggman pressed a button and the wall Sonic was holding onto began to shift.
  36.
  37. Startled, Sonic took a few steps backwards. One of his feet found his food bowl. With minimal friction, the bowl slid with his foot causing Sonic to trip. Sonic felt the hard pellets of whatever was in his food bowl press against his fur as he rolled on his side in in a mixture of pain and shame as he faced himself away from the once again hysteric Eggman.
  38.
  39. “You’re stone blind!” Eggman announced as he shut the cage door well before the promised five minutes were up. Sonic was not surprised that Eggman lied to him. If Sonic had any vision left, he would have been long gone as soon as that door had opened. “Oh am I going to have fun with you!” Eggman finally mused as he left the room too go lie and let his sides recover.

  45. ==== Remarks ====
  46. Poor Sonic! I hope this chapter didn't drag on for too long. I just needed to set up the fact that Eggman is messing with Sonic while his friends start thinking of a way to rescue Sonic. That's not going to be for a while, though! They have a few more pressing problems which will be addressed in the next chapter.
