errr... plans?

During this one year, I am planning to prepare my research plan more detail as a base for my doctoral program research plan next year.

I was interested to do cultural studies research on Mori Kaoru’s manga [Emma] and [Otoyomegatari]. Both of Mori’s work has culture as one of the base point for the story. In my country, Indonesia, manga is often connoted as something for kid and brings bad effect. While in Japan, manga has a lot of demographic and genre, not only for kids. For example, [Emma] and [Otoyomegatari]’s demographic are seinen, which is not for kids.

My previous research on my Master Degree (practical course) is about ‘slice of life’ genre manga and previously I made slice of life genre manga with Indonesia culture. But in my own opinion, I still have to learn more on how to present the culture into the manga while keep maintaining the ‘slice of life’ stories.

My goal is by researching about Mori’s works which can blend the ‘slice of life’ stories and the culture; I can find how to smoothly blend culture and story as well as showing that manga can also bring some knowledge in it, in this case, knowledge about culture. And hoping that with this, in the future, in Indonesia, manga can be seen as one of the way to promote culture toward young people.
