  1. Thanks for the show! Last week a listener Michael wrote in about GPU pass through and mentioned having a ton of photos in Adobe LightRoom. While you can certainly run LightRoom in a VM, the photographic tools available in the free software community are very viable now (this wasn't always the case). There are several RAW editors (darktable, RawTherapee, PhotoFlow, Filmulator), several pixel editors (GIMP, Krita), numerous management and organization applications (digiKam, showell, geeqie), and various other great utilities (Hugin, g'mic, LuminanceHDR, HDR merge).
  2.
  3. There is a community forming around free software for photographers at http://pixls.us and a forum at http://discuss.pixls.us. We are pretty OS agnostic (many of the tools listed above run on Windows and Mac, and a quick search reveals many are in the FreeBSD ports tree).

  5. Unfortunately there is no way to carry edits from LightRoom to another application, but one can always change going forward.
  6.
  7. We're a friend bunch in the forum, lots of smart people, developers of the applications, and an all around good time! Please join us, we'd love to have you as part of the community.
