  1. The sound of rain hitting ground was all he could hear. He paid no attention to his surroundings as he walked back to his house. An unlimited supply of raging thoughts dashed around inside his head, threatening to completely break through his skull. These thoughts were the cause of his unbearable headache that was hindering every other possible sense he had. He just wanted the pain to end. He thought, or at least tried to think, how could something in your own imagination cause so much pain? He continued walking and listening because even thinking hurt because all he thought of was why he felt so depressed. He didn't want to think about that now, he just wanted to get home and rest for once.
  2.
  3. As he stepped in the house, he took off his shoes, now soaked and muddied from the rain. He hangs up his jacket and runs a hand through his damp hair. He wonders to the kitchen and sees a note. He sighs, knowing he won't see her until late upon seeing the note. Every time she leaves a note, she doesn't come back for hours.
  4. The note reads "Going out for a while, won't be back until late. Don't worry. Love you x".
  5.
  6. He bites his lip as he sets the note back on the counter, wondering where she goes. He walks back over to where his jacket hangs and looks through the pockets until he wraps his hand around what he was looking for. He takes out the box with her anniversary git inside and stares at it for a moment before walking to the bedroom. He slowly sits down on the edge of the bed before looking in the mirror. The once happy energetic man he once knew as himself no longer looked back at him. The man who looked back at him was tired. Empty eyes with dark circles are what stared back at him now. A ghost of himself.
  7.
  8. He looked away, not wanting to see the person who was no longer him. He turned and grabbed their shared laptop from the bedside table. He checked emails, looked up the news, watched videos, and surfed the internet, having nothing better to do. He opened another tab to put some music on, but accidentally clicked the wrong thing. His brow furrowed as words filled the screen. It was an inbox to an email he'd never heard of. His eyes jumped from top to bottom trying to see if any of it was familiar, but he had no recollection of having another email, which only meant one thing. He scrolled down and clicked on the new mail section, not wanting to eavesdrop, but couldn't save himself from curiosity. The list of unfamiliar emails filled the screen and he looked at the subjects. He clicked the most recent email.
  9.
  10. As he read the email, he could feel his heart sinking in his chest. He had told himself it wouldn't happen ever. He had told himself not to worry about it ever happening. Now, as he reads the email from his girlfriend's lover, he finally realizes he was stupid to ever tell himself that. He should have known. All of those days she disappeared for hours, all of those late night phone calls, her obvious avoidance of him. All of that reality hit him in the face from the second he read the email. When he finished reading it felt as if the timer in his mind just went off, making all of the emotions inside explode. All of the thoughts which had threatened to escape now fueled his very being.
  11.
  12. He stood up, leaving the laptop open on the bed as he walked through the hall to the door. Now that he knew where she was, thanks to the email, he could go straight there. As he walked now, he noticed everything that he didn't as he was walking before. He heard every voice, every car door slamming, every bird singing. He wondered to himself, will the birds be singing once he leaves today? Or will they sing a sad tune? He dismissed the thought and continued staring ahead, as he approached his destination. He could smell the freshly cooked food and hear the beat of the music coming from the place he would soon come to dread seeing.
  13.
  14. As he walked in, he noticed the overall fanciness of the restaurant. Everyone was in suits and dresses and had fine jewelry on. He looked down taking in his own rugged appearance. If they didn't let people in for wearing hoodies, then he would have to make a different approach. He walked around, ignoring the odd looks from people eating their dinner nearby, making his way to the other side of the restaurant. He made his way around a large potted plant and saw them. A man with dark hair in a tuxedo sits across from her.
  15.
  16. His heart rate quickens as he steps past everything standing in his way. It wasn't until he was a few feet away that she saw him. That is when the fear entered her eyes and the anger entered his own. A waiter tries to block his path, but gets shoved out of the way as he grabs the dark haired man by the collar. He forcefully drags him out of his seat and throws a punch. She yells at him to stop, but the ringing in his ears blocks any form of noise. The red blocking his vision makes it hard for him to see the blood which comes out of the man's nose as he throws continuous punches at his face. Shame, now his tuxedo will be ruined. He doesn't feel the pain of shattering glass on his head until he has fallen to the ground, vision blurry. A bystander had broken a wine glass over his head to stop him from continuing.
  17.
  18. He struggled to his feet, holding the back of his head, and looked around at his new surroundings. Tuxedo man is lying on the ground holding his broken nose, everyone is standing up and staring at him, and she is watching him with tear filled eyes from behind the table. He hears someone ask "How could you do this to me?" and then realizes it was in fact him speaking. His voiced cracked as he continued, "You told me you loved me, you looked me in the eyes and told me I was your one and only, and this is what you do!?" The tears start streaming as he walks towards her. She backs away and he stops walking. He blinks away tears as he looks down at her lover. He looks back to her and he reaches into his jacket pocket. Her eyes widen and he hears someone shout from the crowd, "He's got something in his pocket, watch out!" His fingers wrap around the box as he feels a surge of electricity enter his body. As he fell, he heard the yells before he heard the tazor. Forceful hands grab his arms, painfully putting handcuffs around his wrists. As the electricity leaves his body, his eyes begin to close as the adrenaline leaves his body. Right before his eyes close, he hears it. He hears her phone ring like an echo through his mind, banging on the edges of his skull. And that's when he woke up.
  19.
  20. His eyes shoot open and he takes in a deep breath as he recovers from the nightmare. He turns around in the bed, reaching to the other side and feeling no other presence there. He turns to lay on his back and sighs, staring at the ceiling. The darkness in the room surrounds him and the only sound in the room is the sound of his slow breaths. He knows he should return to sleep, but how can he after what he had just gone through? It was only 3 am, he had to try. As he turned back on his side, facing the window, he began to close his eyes.
  21.
  22. That's when he hears her hang up her phone.
