  6. Evaluate topic sentences and conclusions in your classmates’ paragraphs.
  7. Identify and correct run-on sentences, comma splices, and other errors in your paragraphs.
  8. Use intensifiers to add emphasis to writing.
  9. ---
  10. Exchange your writing and read your partner’s. Are the topic and conclusion sentences good? Do they do all the things they need to? Can you identify each of the supporting points and examples?
  11. ---
  12. Identify and fix mistakes in your and your partner’s writing. Look especially for problems with run-on sentences and comma splices. There are also many problems with word forms (such as “intelligent” instead of “intelligence”).

  14. A Good Teacher
  15.
  16. A good teacher has three important qualities. First, they need to be able to speak quite well. It’s extremely important for students to be able to understand the teacher, so the teacher needs to explain things fluently and clearly. Another important characteristic for a good teacher is listening skills. A teacher needs to understand questions and information from students, and needs to be patient to understand students who don’t speak English so well. Finally, a good teacher must be open-minded. Students’ cultures and backgrounds might be very different from one another and from the teacher’s, and the teacher should understand those differences. For example, if a student isn’t really comfortable answering a question with a direct “no”, the teacher ought to understand more indirect answers and accept the student’s cultural differences. In short, a good teacher must speak well, listen well, and be open-minded.
