  1. Switching Pokémon has some pretty tricky rules, so here are all of them in one place for you!
  2.
  3. Switching one Pokémon out and releasing another to replace it requires a Standard Action. This can either be done on the Trainer’s Initiative Tick with their Standard Action or on the recalling Pokémon’s Initiative Tick with their Standard Action. In the latter case, the Pokémon must be able to take action to initiate the switch.
  4.
  5. A Trainer may also use a Standard Action to release or recall two Pokémon.
  6.
  7. A Trainer can use their Shift Action on their Initiative Tick to either recall or release a single Pokémon.
  8.
  9. When a Move or Effect forces a recall, such as Whirlwind, the recall does not use an action, but the Trainer must still spend a Shift Action to release a new Pokémon.
  10.
  11. When recalling a Fainted Pokémon with a Shift Action, a Trainer may immediately send out a new Pokémon as a Free Action.
  12.
  13. A Pokémon can act in the round it was released. If their Initiative Tick has already passed, they act immediately after being released.
