  1. >Pony booze tasted disgusting.
  2. >You'd never tell her that, of course.
  3. >But to tell the truth it was COMPLETELY disgusting.
  4. >All their drinks tasted like hay, apples, and liquor.
  5. >You didn't need to drink it at all, not really, but you had to keep up appearances.
  6. >For her, most of all.
  7. >You chuckle at one of her jokes as you sip on your drink, a tasteless type of apple cider.
  8. >She finishes laughing and grins at you.
  9. >"Can you believe this!? An entire DAY of free drinks? This is the best coronation EVER!"
  10. >You roll your eyes and give her a smile.
  11. "It's your ONLY coronation."
  12. >She snorts and takes another drink.
  13. >"So!? Best, only, who cares! Honestly, you're such a buzzkill!"
  14. >You blow her a raspberry, and the both of you break into laughter.
  15. >You know she didn't mean it.
  16. >You can FEEL she didn't, in the slow, steady stream of positive emotion that leaked from her.
  17. >She was the meal, really. Your best friend in the entire world.
  18. >She tasted like mint and smiles and joy and love.
  19. >You smile sadly at her as she continues to talk about the new King Blueblood.
  20. >She didn't know.
  21. >Not about what her people had payed to have Blueblood enthroned.
  22. >Not about the truth of that night.
  23. >Not the truth about you.
  24. >And she would never know.
  25. >She'd been your best friend for years, before that night, before that mess with the invasion.
  26. >You'd left the Hive to get away from all that.
  27. >But the past has a way of catching up with creatures like you.
  28. >The door to the Canterlot bar opens with a jingle of bells, and a purple mare walks in.
  29. >She sees you, and her face brightens.
  30. >"Bon-Bon! Long time no see!"
  31.
  32.
  33.
  34. >It couldn't be.
  35. >It fucking couldn't be.
  36. >You'd payed off your debt. You were out. You'd told Blueblood all about Chrysalis, everything you knew.
  37. >There was no reason SHE would be here. While you were with Lyra?
  38. >He'd promised to leave you both alone. To leave HER alone.
  39. >"Hey Bonnie, I think that pony knows you!"
  40. >You put on an uneasy smile and wave weakly back at Amethyst Star as she approaches the two of you.
  41. >WHY WAS SHE HERE?
  42. >She takes a seat next to Lyra, offering you a warm smile.
  43. >"Hi Bon-Bon! How have you been!? It's been AGES since we talked!"
  44. "Oh! Hi...Sparkler! Sorry, I didn't recognize you for a second."
  45. >Something flashes in her eyes, but she stays warm.
  46. >"Oh, Bonnie, I'm hurt! After all the fun we had when you took that candy-making job at the mansion!"
  47. >Lyra leans back from the table, her face looking hurt.
  48. >Something dark and ugly comes through the emotional feed, and you hold back a grimace.
  49. >Suspicion.
  50. >Dark and oily and nasty.
  51. >"...Bonnie? I thought I was the only pony who..."
  52. >You flash a look of intense hatred at Sparkler, who looks oblivious.
  53. >Lyra gets up, a riot of emotions playing on her face.
  54. >"I'll...uh...I'll give you two some space, huh? I'll be back at the room, Bon-Bon."
  55. >As she trots out the door, you turn a furious glare onto Sparkler's now-stoic face.
  56. "What the BUCK was that!? I thought I was done with you and your blue-balled little-"
  57. >"We have another job for you."
  58. "What makes you think I'd ever work with you clowns again!?"
  59. >Sparkler gives you a smiling so devoid of emotion it makes your teeth hurt.
  60. >"Because we'll kill Lyra if you refuse us."
  61. "...What do you want?"
  62.
  63.
  64. >The words burn in your mind as you write the letter and slip it under her door.
  65. >How could they ask that of you?
  66. >How could they ask that of anything, let alone a pony, or a changeling?
  67. >"We want you to help us track and kill a filly."
  68. >You shiver as you descend the steps from your Canterlot suite.
  69. >Amethyst Star is waiting for you at the bottom.
  70. >She grimaces as she notes the anger in your approach.
  71. "Why in Tartarus do you need ME for this?"
  72. >"Your Queen insisted that one of her...creatures...be involved."
  73. "She's not MY Queen!"
  74. >This seems to take Sparkler by surprise.
  75. >"Are you not...linked...to your people?"
  76. >You snort.
  77. "I'm not explaining changelings to you. Your boss already knows enough about us. Why me?"
  78. >"Blueblood ordered. I obeyed. You know her, I believe. Sweetie Belle, from that town you made your nest in."
  79. "...Nest? We don't...that's not important, how would I be any help tracking Sweetie Belle!? And you both promised to leave Lyra out of this the first time!"
  80. >She shrugs.
  81. >"Afraid your little food source will get hurt? You'd have to find another one, what a tragedy."
  82. >You growl and shift shapes, a green flare revealing your true nature to the stoic purple mare.
  83. "She's more than a...a food source, you bitch."
  84. >Sparkler raises an eyebrow.
  85. >"So...what, she's like a...don't tell me you beasts actually...do you care about her romantically?"
  86. >You shrink back, blushing under your carapace.
  87. "Well...changeling romance is...complicated?"
  88. >"How so?"
  89. "There are...quadrants, and-"
  90. >"Stop, I've heard enough. Come with me. And change back, you disgusting bug."
  91. >You grimace and comply.
  92. >For Lyra. You're doing this for Lyra.
  93.
  94.
  95. "Why are we...here?"
  96. >Sparkler sighs in annoyance.
  97. >"The filly is in Fillydelphia with her parents. So we're going to take a little train ride."
  98. "You want us to...we have to kill her parents, too?"
  99. >Sparkler blinks.
  100. >"Do you have a problem with that?"
  101. >You stare at her blankly for about a minute.
  102. "OF COURSE I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT, YOU BASKET CASE! WHO DOESN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH-"
  103. >Sparkler shoves a hoof in your mouth.
  104. >"Stop shouting. You're causing a scene."
  105. >You glance around at the other passengers before lowering your hooves and pulling Sparkler's hoof out of your mouth.
  106. >"Why do you care, anyway? They're not your kind."
  107. "That doesn't matter! She's still a child! With a family! What is WRONG with you!?"
  108. >You put your hooves to your head.
  109. "I'm...I'm not doing this. This isn't happening!"
  110. >Sparkler blinks, then looks straight ahead.
  111. >"You are, and it is. If you care about your little mint snack, that is."
  112. >You growl, and Sparkler gives a tiny smile.
  113. >A sudden realization hits you.
  114. "You're enjoying this, aren't you?"
  115. >"Of course. I get to watch a mismatched, un-equine abomination suffer, and I get to kill the disgusting, common byblow of a child that's related to...Her."
  116. >You reel at the sudden taste of emotion flowing from Sparkler. Jealousy wouldn't even begin to cover...
  117. >Envy, green and furious, flows into you suddenly, the taste making you gag.
  118. "You are one crazed bitch."
  119. >"And you're the monster that's helping me."
  120. >You don't respond to that.
  121. >How could you?
  122. >She and her...employer were threatening Lyra.
  123. >Threatening the only thing in this world you cared about.
  124. >And to save her.
  125. >You had to kill a child.
  126.
  127. Blueblood's perspective.
  128.
  129. >There were many perks to being king.
  130. >Some small.
  131. >Some large.
  132. >But by far, the greatest part of it was to just...
  133. >See how BROKEN she was.
  134. >Her white coat was wan and dim, her magnificent mane dirty and unkempt.
  135. >There was no defiance in those eyes.
  136. >Not anymore.
  137. >Nothing but cold acceptance, fear, loathing, and despair.
  138. >The despair was the best part, you decided.
  139. >You looked on her as you stepped off the levitating elevator that led to this dismal cave she had made her home.
  140. "Good afternoon, Celestia."
  141. >"Is it?"
  142. "I take it you have not had much luck with your beloved sister?"
  143. >She closes her eyes, as if pained.
  144. >"...You know I have not, Blueblood."
  145. "Why, Princess, are you in this portion of the caverns? Why are you not with her?"
  146. >She gives you a glare of such ferocious intensity that you recoil, your royal robe charring in the heat of her gaze.
  147. >Despairing she may be, but she is still the Sun.
  148. >"She BURNS AT MY TOUCH, BLUEBLOOD. MY VERY PRESENCE IS AGONY TO HER. IN HER DARKEST HOUR, I CANNOT BE THERE TO LIGHT HER WAY!"
  149. >Her glare cuts off as she closes her eyes.
  150. >"...Again."
  151. >You smile and put a hoof on her shoulder.
  152. "Worry not, Celestia. I still have faith in Equestria's Undimmed Sun."
  153. >"No, you don't."
  154. >Your smile widens.
  155. "No, I don't."
  156. >You start to walk past her, when she speaks again.
  157. >"Blueblood."
  158. "Princess?"
  159. >"Anonymous. If Anonymous had anything to do with this...I will find him, and burn him to ashes."
  160. >You smirk.
  161. "Of course you wi-"
  162. >"And Blueblood? If YOU had anything to do with this, there will not even be ashes left of you."
  163.
  164.
  165. >Surely, she hadn't...she didn't really suspect, did she?
  166. >It doesn't matter. Sparkler would tie up one loose end. And you'd tie up the other two.
  167. >Now it's time to visit your second 'Aunt'.
  168. >You walk slowly through the crystal caverns beneath Canterlot, your horn lighting the way.
  169. >You know this path well enough.
  170. >The past few days have seen you coming to it again and again.
  171. >You wait until the caves get darker and darker, until your horn's light simply stops at one corner of the room.
  172. >You hear her, her voice bouncing off the corners of the room and returning to you.
  173. >A whisper, a hiss, a roar.
  174. >"Blueblood...turn off the light."
  175. >You cough as sweat forms on your forehead.
  176. >You didn't fear her. Not really. You'd made her, after all.
  177. "It's...King, now, Princess. King Regent, I suppose, but-"
  178. >"Turn. Off. The Light."
  179. >You dim your horn.
  180. >"Better."
  181. >You see her, huddled in the dark, her head facing the wall. This was a new...development.
  182. "Princess? Why are you-"
  183. >"I can't see you, now. I can still smell you. I can still hear you. Your little heart, beating so fast..."
  184. "That still doesn't..."
  185. >"Beating faster, now."
  186. >You clear your throat.
  187. "Princess Luna. I know your...condition is...severe."
  188. >She stands up, the chains around her neck and hooves clanking as she sinuously turns to regard you with her eyes.
  189. >"I wonder...Blueblood..."
  190. "And your sister is working very hard to cure you..."
  191. >"I wonder if your blood is truly blue? I'm so very, very thirsty...and that name has always been-"
  192. "But what if I knew who did this awful thing to you?"
  193. >You see a hint of fangs in the dark.
  194. "What if I could deliver Anonymous to you?"
  195.
  196. Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlCwgfPqNGw
  197. >Everything twists again.
  198. >You are Anonymous, and nothing is real.
  199. >Your vision warps, distorts, mutates before your eyes.
  200. >Stone walls become marble.
  201. >Cold air becomes soft satin.
  202. >Rot and death and fear becomes musk, perfume, and roses.
  203. >Everything is permitted.
  204. >"Anonymous..."
  205. >And her.
  206. >She changes.
  207. >Again.
  208. >Beauty unimaginable, cheekbones, hips, a body out of a teenager's wet dream.
  209. >A pale hand traces it's way up your bare chest.
  210. >"Anonymous...won't you love me?"
  211. >Soft flesh presses against you, and you inhale as you feel her lips on your neck.
  212. >A soft trail of kisses chase up your neck, until she's nibbling on your ear.
  213. >"I can be anyone. Anything...and I'm all yours..."
  214. >You want her.
  215. >Who wouldn't?
  216. >She was beautiful, yes. A Queen amongst peasents.
  217. "Get..."
  218. >"All you have to do..."
  219. "The fuck."
  220. >"Is love me."
  221. >You feel her shift, green eyes glaring at you like twin lamps.
  222. "Off of me."
  223. >She smiles, her mouth widening in a monstrous fashion.
  224. >She straddles your chest, and you grimace up at her.
  225. >"None of that, lover. No...no tonight. Tonight...you're going to love me..."
  226. >Everything twists again.
  227. >Your head BURNS, your thoughts rending themselves as she dives into your mind.
  228. >You scream as you feel her, worming into your thoughts like a worm, like a plague, like a sickness.
  229. >The twisting stops, and you gasp, panting in agony.
  230. >She's above you, her eyes glowing, her mouth stretches in exhaustion and pain.
  231. >"Why...can't I...make you..."
  232. >You spit at her.
  233. >Those green eyes widen in rage
  234. >Everything twists...
  235.
  236.
  237. >You're in Canterlot.
  238. >Marble floors, finery, the room.
  239. >The same room where you...
  240. >Where she...
  241. >You glance at the bed.
  242. >Your heart stops moving.
  243. >Rarity lies there, her eyes, those sapphire pools looking up at you.
  244. >She's...beautiful.
  245. >Her coat gleams, shining like a white star.
  246. >She lies looking at you with an almost embarrassed grin, her hair let down in a waterfall of violet curls.
  247. >Unbidden, you take a step forward.
  248. >Then she speaks.
  249. >"Is this what you want, then?"
  250. >Your face twists in disgust.
  251. >It's not her.
  252. >How could you ever believe it was her?
  253. >Rarity was never so...forward.
  254. >Her voice was never so cruel.
  255. >Her brows furrow at your disgust, and her eyes flare green.
  256. >"Is this not what you desire? I can be anyone in your memory, Anon..."
  257. >She shifts, into that first woman, that first love so long ago...
  258. >"Or anyp0ny..."
  259. >She shifts back into Rarity, crawling onto the floor towards you.
  260. >"So why won't you love me?"
  261. "Because you're none of them. None of those things. You're a lie. You're nothing."
  262. >Her green eyes flare and become your world.
  263. >You shout out in agony as she leaves your head, convulsing in the disgusting green pod they've trapped you in.
  264. >Chrysalis rears back, shrieking at your rejection.
  265. >You grimly chuckle in your little cocoon of fluid, and she hisses at you once more.
  266. >"You can't resist forever...Anon. I will break you."
  267. >You shout back at her, your words muffled by the fluid.
  268. >"It's only a matter of time...let's begin again."
  269.
  270.
  271. >Everything twists.
  272. >You're home.
  273. >Wooden walls.
  274. >Leaky roof.
  275. >Bottles of wine and other assorted booze rolling around on the floor.
  276. >Half-eaten food and trash in the corners.
  277. >You hate doing this.
  278. >Every week, you visited her, with as much of your haul as you could spare.
  279. >Even this week, after being mauled by that animal, you visited.
  280. >You scowl as you kick discarded wine bottles out of the way.
  281. >She was drunk, again, of course.
  282. >"Anon? Izzat my boy? My beautiful, beautiful boy."
  283. >You didn't want to relive thi-
  284. >Wait. That's not what she said that night.
  285. >Against your will, you enter her room.
  286. >She's smiling up at you, sober.
  287. >Clean, with none of the drug-shakes or the red-eye.
  288. >"You were always so beautiful, Anon. I've always been so proud of you."
  289. >Everything twists, and you're embracing her.
  290. >Wrapped in her arms, in her warmth, while she lays her head on your shoulder.
  291. >"You've done so well, Anon. Made me so proud. You rose out of this life, rose out of what I wanted for you. You've found something better."
  292. >You feel hot tears at the corners of your eyes.
  293. >You know what will come next. She was cruel to do this to you. To give you this, just to take it away.
  294. >The Moon was full that night, after all.
  295. >"No, baby, no."
  296. >She runs an arm on your shoulder.
  297. >"That doesn't have to happen. Not here. Not ever again. You're safe, Anon. You're safe with your mamma. I love you, Anon. I love you so much."
  298. >Your arms come up, around her, and she moves her lips to your ears.
  299. >"Anon, do you love me?"
  300. >Of course you did.
  301. >Of course you loved her.
  302. >So why couldn't you say it?
  303.
  304. Music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WgCW5J6YG0
  305. >You feel your neck shift, and you blearily wonder at how you're moving.
  306. >You didn't tell yourself to move.
  307. >You just wanted to let your mamma know you love her.
  308. >She was PROUD of you, for God's sakes.
  309. >After what you did to her...forgiveness? Love? You'd give anything for that.
  310. "No," the voice that isn't you says, "No, I dON'T LOVE YOU."
  311. >Everything Twists.
  312. >Your hands are around her throat.
  313. >Normal, human hands, wrapped around her neck like a noose.
  314. >She's choking, your mamma that loves you so much, the green light in her eyes glowing and sparking.
  315. >You love your mamma. Why would you hurt her?
  316. >"What...what are you...doing...Anon? Don't you...love me?"
  317. >The you that isn't you only laughs.
  318. >"Stop...please...hurts..."
  319. "THIS IS NOT PAIN, GREENLING. NO. THIS..."
  320. >Your hand rises, twists, until it is a monstrous amalgamation of claw and furred paw.
  321. >You jab it into your mother's eye.
  322. >Everything twists.
  323. >You see it from a distance.
  324. >You, the great, hulking beast that is the dark part of your soul, holding her, another monster.
  325. >A twisted, black demon. The beast-you jabs it's thumbs into her eyes, and she shrieks like a banshee.
  326. "...IS PUNISHMENT."
  327. >Dark-you drops her, then leans over her, drool running from your fanged maw.
  328. "AND IT IS ONLY BEGINNING."
  329. >It slams a clawed hand into her neck, ripping out a green gobbet of flesh.
  330. >Everything twists, and you are once again in the green cocoon.
  331. >Chrysalis backs away from you, hoof to her throat, staring at you in naked terror.
  332. >You look at her through the green, and you smile with a mouth that is not under your control.
  333. >You are trapped, again. Confined.
  334. >But this time.
  335. >YOU.
  336. >ARE NOT.
  337. >ALONE.
