Event Description: The Department of Homeland Security begins airing a number of commercials on television. These commercials tell parents that it is perfectly acceptable to go through children's belongings, writings, and computer files in the search for evidence that their children have dangerous ideas. One commercial has parents "practicing" slamming doors so they could be "ready" for a child angry that they went through their stuff to determine the child had dangerous ideas. Some commericals also say that it's perfectly acceptable to spy on people neighbors, go through their trash, go through their belongings and computer files if they have the chance, in order to find if the person has dangerous ideas. In both cases, people are told that Bush and the Home Guard appreciate all information received, especially if it brings down people with dangerous ideas.

Event Description: Bush outlaws labor unions. He also removes all the protections employees had, such as overtime, minimum wage, workers compensation, and many of the other laws that protected employees from unethical and unsafe practices on the part of employers. He also disbands the Occupational Health and Safety Administration. He also makes tax cuts for the wealthy permanent, and gives tax breaks to companies that ship jobs overseas. Bush says that the "Faith Based Organizations" can do the job now, and disbands all the social service organizations in the United States.
Finally, Bush sponsors the creation of a black list. This list would make it almost impossible for those considered undesirable by Bush and friends to get decent jobs.
Because of Bush's actions, Wal-Mart creates the Wal-Mart Virtue Excellence Award, and gives the first award to President Bush.

Event Description: A number of slums begin to appear around populated areas as people are forced out of their homes because of an inability to make rent or mortgage payments. These people are forced in tiny shacks in these slums. These slums come to be known as "Bushievilles" after the Great Depression slums that had been called "Hoovervilles." In some areas, more well to do families that oppose Bush donate part of their land and ensure that the people have access to free and clean water, modern bathroom facilities, and free medical care. But doing so gains these families unwelcome attention to the Home Guard.

Hannity says that the Emperor was working to secure the safety of the people against those with dangerous ideas when he had the officers hanged.

The report tells of one young woman who was forced to prostitute herself that many of the religious right had bought her services, and that what she was forced to do for them made her sick. But it was the only way she could think of the feed her children and her disabled husband.

Event Description: Bush decides to cancel his plans to attack North Korea at the last minute and initiates a campaign to reconquer the states that seceeded from the U.S. : Hawaii and Alaska. Hawaii was easily retaken in two months, but to reconquer Alaska, The U.S. had to conquer Canada as well. After five years of brutal warfare, the U.N. stood by and did nothing for fear that it would lead to armageddon world-wide. By 2010, the Canadian government and people surrendered and Alaska was once again part of the U.S., along with Canada itself now. At his victory speech in Washington D.C., Emperor Bush officially reorganized the United States into the first American Empire, thus disbanding Congress and replacing it with the Imperial Council of Lords. The Supreme Court is renamed as the Imperial Court and retains mot of its powers, but is ultimately answerable to the Emperor. The Emperor begins forming his Imperial Dynasty by appointing his nephew, George P. Bush, as the new Governor of Florida and as his unofficial heir. Jeb Bush (former Gov. of Florida) and Arnold Swartzenagger (former Gov. of California) are appointed as the first Lords of the Imperial Council of Lords. The Emperor also marries his oldest daughter to a promising young politician named Gregory Octavius Deacons, a former Congressman and now a member of the Imperial Council of Lords.

The Alliance to restore the United States of America (ARUSA) swears to oppose the empire, overthrow the Bush takeover of America, and restore the United States to its true form. With rebels striking at government and political sites all over the empire, the Emperor is forced to concentrate his forces on fighting the rebels. The Second American Civil War has begun.

Event Description: Because Bush's military is mostly concentrated on urban areas in the empire, the rebels hide in the mostly unpopulated zones like the mountains and the inland states. To counter this threat, Emperor Bush places the entire country under martial law and institutes a draft demanding that all American citizens, male and female, of ages 18 enlist in the military. This act turns the American Empire into an absolute militaristic nation.

Many in the country who secretly despise Bush give their support to the Alliance in hopes of restoring the United States.

Event Description: Halloween Uprising: In a 24 hour period, over 2000 attacks are launched against civil and military forces, mostly in the rural American South. Most are IRA-style bombings or drive-by shootings of government installations, but some take the form of guerrilla raids involving hundreds of militiamen armed with small arms, anti-tank weapons, mortars, light aircraft, gun mounted pickups and even small amounts of poison gas. The attacks are a resounding success; many military installations are lost to the guerrillas, including the nuclear and chemical stores of Fairchild Air Force Base, Barkesdale Air Force Base and Anniston Army Depot. The League of the South, a Southern secessionist organization that had gone underground shortly after the secession of Hawaii, declares that it and affiliated groups are responsible for the attacks and demands the immediate withdrawal of all federal forces from the Confederate States of America.

Event Description: Imperial and insurgent aircraft skimish in the skies above Kentucky and the Virginias. Though the Imperial Air Force clearly holds the advantage, they're unable to provide effective support to the remaining ground forces in the region. All Imperial ground, air and sea forces left below the Mason-Dixon line and east of the Mississippi are reoganized into Homeland Army Group Southeast and ordered to converge on Norfolk, Virginia. Those west of the Mississippi are organized into Homeland Army Group Southwest and ordered to Fort Hood, Texas. In the frantic evacuation of the Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, the USS Alabama is hit and crippled by several French-made MILAN missiles fired from the Civil War era Fort Clinch (the irony is not lost on either side). The ship, crew and all twenty-four nuclear-tipped Trident missiles on board are captured. Pensacola is evacuated with only sporadic resistance.

Event Description: Emperor Bush begins negotiating with the Russian and Chinese governments. In exchange for sending troops to help him take over North and South America, Bush will give them all of the Empire's technology as well as ten percent of it's gross domestic product for the next ten years. The League of the South hands Fairchild Air Force Base and its nuclear weapons over to the Rocky Mountain Confederacy, which demands that Imperial forces withdraw from Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia and Alberta.

Event Description: Homeland Army Group Southeast arrives in Norfolk with over 610,000 soldiers under it's command. Homeland Army Group Southwest arrives at Fort Hood with slightly less than 580,000 men under it's command, it's numbers bolstered by the withdrawal of Imperial Forces from parts of Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Kansas and Wyoming. Local militias in California and Virginia are unable to prevent Imperial forces from steadily moving inland. The Mountain Confederacy and the League of the South both consider and reject the notion of using nuclear weapons on the coastal enclaves, due to the high number of civilians behind enemy lines. Full scale uprisings occur in Quebec, Manitoba, Utah, California and Vermont. The government in exile, ARUSA, the United Nations and the European Union begin to separately draw up plans for how they intend to handle the disintegration of the American Empire.

Many governments are unnerved by the participation of seperatist groups in their own countries and begin to fear that, once agian, the Americans are giving their citizens/subjects the wrong ideas.

Event Description: The semi-rural Richmond suburb of Sandston, Virginia is attacked shortly after midnight by 10,000 Imperial soldiers and 200 main battle tanks, 150 armored personnel carriers, 80 towed guns and about 300 "drafted" civilian vehicles. Opposing them are League and affilliated militias totaling 25,000 armed with 9 main battle tanks, 24 armored personnel carriers, 190 towed guns and 200 technicals. Fighting begins on the overpasses of I-295 near the Richmond International Airport. The defenders are pushed back into residental subdivisions, where they take a heavy toll on Imperial armored forces. When the militias use tear gas in the house-to-house fighting, Imperial forces respond by blanketing the entire area in sarin and VX gas. Militias respond in kind, both sides continue to use chemicals weapons throughout the battle, resulting in over 7,000 deaths on both sides by the end of the day.

Event Description: ARUSA agrees to assist local militias in policing several Southern cities, which had been abandoned by regular League forces to prevent their being bombed by the Imperial Airforce. In the early morning hours, Homeland Army Group Southeast uses the cover of night and snow to evacuate Sandston, leaving 7,000 dead or captured soldiers, 124 tanks, 54 armored personnel carriers and 16 guns. The defenders have lost 7 tanks, 15 armored personnel carriers and 100 towed guns. The offical death toll is 18,000 dead or wounded, though many were likely civilians who'd been caught in the crossfire.

750,000 Chinese and Russian "Peacekeepers" arrive in San Diego. Small numbers of Kazak and Mongolian troops are also present.

Event Description: A renewed push from Homeland Army Group Southwest finally drives Californian insurgents out of the San Gabriel mountains. Armored columns blast their way through Newhall Pass and into Palmdale/Lancaster, but they are too weakened to continue to press towards either Bakersfield or Edwards Air Force Base. To the east, paratroopers land in Barstow with little trouble, further isolating resistance in the San Fernando Valley from potential support in Nevada and Arizona; however, armor and mechanized infantry pushing up Interstate 15 find themselves trapped in the mountains and both are forced to fend for themselves in the likely rebel counter-attack.
Insurgent groups throughout the Empire begin sending any available soldiers towards California, which organize throughout the West under the Western Provisional Expeditionary Force.

At an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council, Chinese Premier Guo Boxiong states "The time has come that the Monroe Doctrine be applied in reverse. The nations of the world must ensure that violence and secessionist sentiment, contrary to our goals of a harmonious global village, are contained and eliminated. To that end, my government and others are deploying our civil and military assets to assist the American nations in unifying to fight this new threat." He ends his speech by saying "Seventeen nations have already committed almost 1,700,000 troops to the restoration of peace to the American Continents and we hope more will join us."

The meeting is called short after word reaches the delegates that, five days ago, separatist groups throughout Europe had planned attacks on their government. The meeting will reconvene as soon as the safety of the UN headquarters can be assured.

Event Description: At a meeting of important figures in the Imperial Government as well as some ambassadors from other nations, three figures wearing black dusters, bandanas and cowboy hats rush into the meeting hall, each armed with a flamethrower, a sawed off shotgun, hand grenades, two Colt .45 Peacemakers and a Bowie knife. In a highly symbolic attak, they torch, blow up, shoot and stab over 40 people before escaping through a secret exit in the building. One of them is killed, and it turns out to be Gregory Octavius Deacons. Hours later, the two surviving attackers make a rambling, four hour radio broadcast from Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center in which they claim to be Jenna and Barbara Bush and state that Emperor Bush and his underlings were controlled by Satan and had to be destroyed.
Sean Hannity, Arnold Swartzenagger, Jeb Bush and several other wicked Republicans are found to have been burned to a crisp. Emperor Bush survives the attack, despite small burn and stab wounds.

An additional 600,000 peacekeepers attempt to pass through the Panama Canal, but the Panamanian government refuses passage. The force returns to California, and plans are drawn up for an invasion of Panama.

President Raul Castro of Cuba offers 5,000 troops to the peacekeeper garrisons and, more importantly, grants them basing rights in the country. Bush in enraged that his mortal enemy is being let in on restoring his empire, but he begins to realize that there's not an awful lot he can do about it.

The New Year brings a world that looks more like 1848 than 2017 for most Americans. Petroleum shortages have reduced most of the population to using horses for transport and wood for fuel. Over three million people have died from the war, cold, disease and famine since Halloween and vast swaths of land become uninhabitable as opposing armies fight back and forth for them. Chemical weapons are still used with relative abandon, though both sides are begining to fear that continued use may escalate into a nuclear exchange.

After numerous cross-border raids, Peacekeeper forces launch an invasion of Mexico in an attempt to destroy rebel forces and allied warlords. The nation had practically fallen apart with the withdrawl of America from the international scene 15 years ago. The early years were hard and things are still far from ideal below the Rio Grande, but Peacekeeper forces are completely surprised to find that the small city states that now make up most of Mexico have done surprisingly well without the overarching control of an American client state. Rather than welcoming the Empire and Peacekeepers as saviors, the Mexican people resist them bitterly.

Raid on El Paso: military targets throughout western Texas come under attack by Mexican and Confederate guerrillas. One ironic aspect of the raid is the use of old M3 Halftracks by the Mexicans, still useful in desert terrain after 75 years of service.

Independence Day Explosion: without warning, the Long Valley Caldera explodes and tears a giant hole in the Peacekeeper lines, atomizing multiple divisions. The Alliance uses this as a chance to push hard against them, and their troops begin steaming through.

Having heard of the miraculous event in California, Tibetian and Siberian natives rise up against their governments. Caving to popular demand, the European states begin more openly supporting rebels around the world.

Flag Day Nuclear Strikes: China, realizing that the war in America may well be lost, claims that the Long Valley Calderia was really a nuclear mine and uses this to justify ICBM attacks against targets on multiple continents. Other states respond with strategic strikes of their own. Within days the war is over, no one won.

Earth's population begins to finally start climbing again at 580,000,000, of whom about 25,000,000 live in North America (don't worry, not all of them are Canadians). Most of humanity is rural and lives in temperate regions. Humanity has learned it's lesson about government and in this period no large ones exist. Anarcho-syndicatism is the prefered means of social organization, but other forms of anarchism, socialism and clasical liberalism exist as well. While the general lack of oil and coal has created a world that will have a great deal of trouble recreating the industrial revolution (this may or may not be an entirely bad thing), people are finding ways to work around this and make the most of their world but in a more environmentally-sustainable manner than their ancestors.

Perhaps the new century will be better.
