  1. [15:43] <~Headlong> GDRL-2 Addendum 19
  2. [15:43] * RadioHooves is now known as Redshift
  3. [15:43] <~Headlong> "I make things happen, Agent Boulder. That's all you need to know."
  4. [15:45] <~Headlong> The members of the Dullahans are still on Malakara Island, and there is still a corpse to deal with. After some recent revelations, more light has been shed on the case, and yet, many shadows of doubt remain.
  5. [15:47] * Pantzar ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: Pull the pin and count to what? )
  6. [15:49] * Scribbles had found herself a seat and a table to review her notes over.
  7. [15:50] * Flare` is now known as Grim
  8. [15:53] * Giddy rubs his temples. "What now?"
  9. [15:54] * Redshift paces about, unable to find anything of remote significance. What to do, what to do...
  10. [15:55] <~Headlong> The corpse lies where it was last deposited, still clothed and otherwise undisturbed.
  11. [15:57] * Bonnet leans up against her pitchfork, looking at the rest of the ponies, "Well obviously we need to find whoever was in that catering van, don't you think?"
  12. [15:57] * Scribbles nods. "Bonnet's right. Perhaps the other witnesses can help shed some light on things."
  13. [16:00] * Giddy frowns. "Yeah. Yeah, sure. We can do that, right?" He tries to remember where it was the witnesses were.
  14. [16:01] <~Headlong> Giddy recalls that they were still staying in a hotel on the mainland, the Corsico, it was called.
  15. [16:02] * Giddy points towards the boat. "Should we check out the island more while we're here, or head over to the mainland?"
  16. [16:04] * Scribbles gathers her notes, tucking them away in her coat. "Yeah. One last look, just to be sure."
  17. [16:06] <~Headlong> The island is only a few miles across, but behind the stage and backstage area is a fairly dense jungle. Searching it may take more time than they have daylight.
  18. [16:08] * Bonnet pulls herself up from the sand, shaking some of it off her jumpsuit and carefully dusting off the rest, "We should call ahead, so they don't try to skip town..."
  19. [16:13] * Giddy sighs. "You would think they'd be held in holding for the remainder of the investigation. Murder and such."
  20. [16:15] * Bonnet tears her pitchfork from the ground dramatically, flinging far more sand than necesary s she twirls it again, "You would /think/ so, yes. But it never hurts to double check."
  21. [16:15] * Mister_Clacky ([email protected]) has joined #FruityRumpusAssholeFactory
  22. [16:16] * Redshift just throws his hooves into the air. Alright, screw this. He turns to the others. "You know what? I'm heading back to the mainland. If you're gonna talk all day, fine. But I'm gonns go and do something about it, even if that means driving the boat myself."
  23. [16:18] * Giddy doesn't look impressed. "Redshift. Do you know how to get the boat out of the dock without wrecking it?"
  24. [16:19] * Redshift clasps a hoof to his forehead. "You're missing the point." He looks to Giddy. "What I'm /trying/ to say is that if you've got a hunch that talking to the folks at the hotel is going to give us some answers, you might as well do it. It's not like we have any better options."
  25. [16:20] * Scribbles sighs. "As blunt as he is, Reddy's right. Besides, weather might turn soon, I'd rather not be here when that happens."
  26. [16:22] * Giddy motions to the corpse. "And I'm saying cool your fucking flanks, and this is the last time you'll ever hear me say that this shit's not a race." He began looking around for some stakes and tarpaulin. "Now, if the weather /does/ turn, I'm not going to leave a corpse out in the middle of the rain where evidence will just get washed off of her."
  27. [16:32] <~Headlong> Wishing_Well hmmmmms as he thoroughly documents the body, taking pictures from a dozen different angles, all the while his vdeo camera rolling. He's smiling wide.
  28. [16:35] * Bonnet sighs and props the pitchfork up over her shoulders, taking a few steps closer to the group, "If it will /actually/ accomplish something, why don't we split up then."
  29. [16:38] <~Headlong> Wishing_Well grins. "I second the motion."
  30. [16:39] * Scribbles rubs the back of her head. "I suppose we could cover more ground that way.."
  31. [16:43] <~Headlong> Giddy is able to secure a tarp from the catering area, but finds nothing to hold it down with.
  32. [16:46] * Kopesh looks around with Giddy to be somewhat useful at least.
  33. [16:47] * Scribbles notices Giddy pulling out a tarp, and goes on the hunt for some rocks or something.
  34. [16:48] <~Headlong> Scribbles secures some large enough rocks. Funny how you can find rocks on an island. Kopesh finds a second tarp, at least.
  35. [16:51] * Giddy at first attempts to find some way of using sand to pin down the tarp, but then realizes that other ponies exist. "Oh. Thanks." He mutters, trying to make sure it's secure.
  36. [16:51] * Kopesh heads back to the body. "Giddy, found a tarp."
  37. [16:51] * Bonnet watches the ponies gathering materials with a flat look on her face.
  38. [16:52] * Scribbles helps pin down the tarp with the rocks she found. "Let's just hope the actual police don't mind the tarp.."
  39. [16:54] * Giddy starts going for the boat. "Alright. Let's be back by the time animals come along to try to get at it." He mutters, getting ready to leave for the mainland dock. When Redshift, Kopesh, Bonnet, Scribbles and himself get on, he departs.
  40. [16:55] * Kopesh does the whole follow thing.
  41. [16:55] <~Headlong> Soon enough, the corpse is covered, safe from the rain. The Tide Hauler waits at the dock for them. Keelhaul has a smoke on the bow as they approach. "Hey there! What's the situation?"
  42. [16:57] * Scribbles looks up at Keelhaul. "We're headed back to the mainland, have a chat with some of the witnesses, if we can."
  43. [17:00] <~Headlong> He nods and clambers up the wheelhouse to relay the news to Anchor Steam. Anchovy casts off the mooring lines and the boat begins to pull away. Wishing Well smiles as he reviews his pictures.
  44. [17:01] * Scribbles leans over, looking at Wishing_Well's snaps
  45. [17:02] * Giddy sighs and gets comfortable. "This is bullshit. I'm a racer, not a damn detective. This isn't in my MO."
  46. [17:02] <~Headlong> He's taken very thorough photos. It's like he's done this before...
  47. [17:04] * Bonnet curls up in one of the booths in the ship's mess, laying her head on the table.
  48. [17:05] <~Headlong> The cook sits down by Bonnet, crossing her hooves. "Weeeeeelcome back! What's got you so glum?"
  49. [17:08] * Bonnet looks over at the cook, lifting a hoof off the table in a half-hearted greeting, "Thanks. Just the stress of this assignment, I suppose. Everyone seems to not quite be themselves today."
  50. [17:09] * Mister_Clacky ([email protected]) Quit ( Quit: Leaving )
  51. [17:10] <~Headlong> The boat roars to life as the primary engines engage. The boat should be on the mainland in no time. The cook nods slowly. "Awwwww... We've had those days, too... I know this job can seem tough, but in the end... Well, we've all come to find it fascinating! I think..."
  52. [17:10] <~Headlong> "...Part of coping with the stress is finding what about this job fascinating!"
  53. [17:11] * Bonnet paws her hoof at the table, "Well so far two ponies have died... not really much fascinating about that..."
  54. [17:15] <~Headlong> The cook inches a hoof towards Bonnet's. "Ponies die every day, Ms. Bonnet. What we're doing... Investigating the things that cause it... it's delivering justice, and closure to the families of the deceased, no?"
  55. [17:18] * Bonnet gives a soft sigh and a shrug, "I suppose that's true, but I don't know if what we're doing could hardly even be called investigating... We don't know what we're doing, and everypony else just argues about every little thing."
  56. [17:20] <~Headlong> The cook hmmms softly. "I... I think your group may just need a little... bonding session."
  57. [17:21] <Bonnet> "Or I need to add a whip to my Daring Do costume..."
  58. [17:23] <~Headlong> The cook smiles faintly. "As fun as that sounds..." She twirls a ladle around in her magic. "... Perhaps Captain Steam and I can help!"
  59. [17:24] * Bonnet gives a little smile back, "Thanks. But for now, I guess we just need to track down this caterer and figure out what's going on."
  60. [17:25] <~Headlong> She nods slowly. "Once you do..." She hoof Bonnet a small card. "Please, don't hesitate to call me."
  61. [17:26] * Scribbles looks up at Wishing Well for a second, then back to the pictures.
  62. [17:27] * Bonnet takes the card carefully with both hooves to look at it, "Thank you, miss."
  63. [17:27] * Giddy lays down on whatever cots are open, head swirling to form bad memories. He hated being around corpses. He couldn't explain why, but it just made him feel incompetent on top of that strange, grim horror when one comes to be reminded of their own mortality.
  64. [17:29] <~Headlong> "Coconut Icing, Foundation Morale Officer." it says plainly, in black text. Giddy finds many open cots to longue in. Wishing Well smiles to Scribbles. "Well? How do they look?"
  65. [17:30] * Redshift ([email protected]) Quit ( Connection closed )
  66. [17:30] * Redshift ([email protected]) has joined #FruityRumpusAssholeFactory
  67. [17:31] * Scribbles looks up at Wishing Well again, "Oh? Well.. They're.. Pretty close to how forensic photographers do, you don't happen to have a history, do you?"
  68. [17:32] <~Headlong> Wishing Well beams. "Not at all! But, I /have/ documented cases like this before."
  69. [17:33] * Scribbles nods. "Archives or jornalism?"
  70. [17:33] <~Headlong> His grin widens, if that's possible. "Oh, neither, really."
  71. [17:34] * Bonnet gives a grateful nod and carefully tucks the card into the pouch on the front of her bag where she keeps her foundation ID
  72. [17:35] * Scribbles tilts her head. "Alright, you lost me."
  73. [17:39] <~Headlong> He seems very happy to explain. "Well, before I worked for Ms. Headlong, I worked for the Equestrian Cryptozoology Society. Have you heard of it?"
  74. [17:41] * Scribbles thought about it out loud. "Cryptozoology... Study of hidden animals?"
  75. [17:42] <~Headlong> He smiles. "Among other things."
  76. [17:42] <Scribbles> "So.. You looked out for mythological creatures and such?"
  77. [17:43] <~Headlong> He nods, putting a hoof on his camera. "And such, indeed."
  78. [17:44] * Scribbles smiles, "So this kind of thing is right up your alley, then."
  79. [17:45] <~Headlong> He gives another, more enthusiastic nod. "Oh, certainly."
  80. [17:46] * Scribbles nods. "You heard that roar over the tape right? Any idea what that could've been?"
  81. [17:48] <~Headlong> He smiles. "Not at all. Though, perhaps... There are some of my friends at the ECS /could/ help..."
  82. [17:51] * Grim ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  83. [18:00] <~Headlong> The rest of the trip passes without incident. Coconut Icing exchanges idle chatter with Bonnet, and the rest of the crew of the Tide Hauler leave the Dullahans to their own devices.
  84. [18:03] <~Headlong> Eventually, rays of sunlight, that had been notably lacking on their tropical island getaway, shine through the portholes in the side of the ship. "We're here... See you, Dullahans..." Anchor Steam announces.
  85. [18:03] * Scribbles leads the group on disembarking.
  86. [18:04] * Bonnet gives Coconut Icing a bow and bids her to have a nice day, before making her way up onto the deck to meet with the rest of the team.
  87. [18:04] * Giddy gets up, looking a little better for wear as he exits the boat (although he sounded like the voice of death itself with the groan he got out of bed with) and he adjusted his cap. "So, we're heading to that hotel. Anyone got a problem with that plan?"
  88. [18:07] * Bonnet shakes her head, looking up at the sun breaking through the clouds, "It's something, anyways."
  89. [18:09] <~Headlong> It's a pretty sight, the sun peeking through the puffy, gray storm clouds. Wishing Well chimes in with "I'm certainly not opposed."
  90. [18:09] * Grim ([email protected]) has joined #FruityRumpusAssholeFactory
  91. [18:10] * Grim is now known as Pony_99589
  92. [18:10] * Pony_99589 is now known as Grim`
  93. [18:12] <~Headlong> The driver brings the car around as soon as he sees the Tide Hauler roll in. The van doors open and they're ready to roll to the Corsico.
  94. [18:14] * Scribbles looks up at the van, shrugging before climbing in.
  95. [18:15] * Bonnet climbs into the van as well, sliding over the seat cushions.
  96. [18:19] <~Headlong> Wishing Well climbs in next, and as soon as they've all piled into the van, it heads off for... What is probably the most immaculate marble portico any of them have ever laid eyes on. And that was merely the front gate!
  97. [18:19] <~Headlong> As the van drives down the asphalt between the perfectly manicured lawns, towards a magnificent font at the center of the parking circle, the driver whistles. "Shew..."
  98. [18:21] * Bonnet smiles softly and makes a mental note to come back here next time she gets an actual vacation.
  99. [18:22] <~Headlong> The massive hotel, styled like an older Tuskan villa on a massive scale, the Corisco seems bathed in light from the breaks in the clouds.
  100. [18:23] <~Headlong> The van doors open, and the driver grins. "Don't stay too long... With a place like that, you might not want to leave..."
  101. [18:27] * Scribbles looks out the doors and to the resort. "Swain-key." She says, stepping out.
  102. [18:30] * Bonnet waits for the other ponies to exit the van before climbing out as well, admiring the decor, "Definitely going to have to make reservations here."
  103. [18:32] <~Headlong> A pair of security guards in BPD exchange idle chat by the door, but don't seem that interested in guarding it. Entering should be a breeze.
  104. [18:37] * Scribbles gestures to Bonnet to take the lead, she is the most high brow out of the group.
  105. [18:41] * Scribbles ([email protected]) Quit ( Ping timeout: 121 seconds )
  106. [18:41] * Scribbles ([email protected]) has joined #FruityRumpusAssholeFactory
  107. [18:45] * Bonnet gives Scribbles a flat look before sighing and trotting up to the guards. Her devil tail swishing back and forth, she beams them the best smile she can, "Excuse me, the two of you wouldn't happen to know some ponies staying here who were involved in a recent incident, do you?"
  108. [18:47] <~Headlong> One of the guards looks at her... costume. "Erm... Are you a guest here, Miss?"
  109. [18:48] * Kopesh walks up. "See's interesting in maybe getting a room actually."
  110. [18:50] * Bonnet gives a moderate nod, "Oh yes, this is such a lovely facility, I would love to come back to stay later. But no, we just have business with those ponies, if you wouldn't mind directing us to them."
  111. [18:51] <~Headlong> The second guard looks down at his watch, then floats up a clipboard. "Well, we're not the ones to talk to. Are you two together? Your stories don't seem entirely straight."
  112. [18:51] * Redshift ([email protected]) Quit ( Connection closed )
  113. [18:56] <Kopesh> "Yes, we are. Front desk then?"
  114. [18:57] * Bonnet taps her hoof in consideration, "Oh, I see..." she glances over at Kopesh from the corner of her eyes.
  115. [18:57] <~Headlong> The second guard sticks a wing out, pointing them in the right direction. "However... We're going to have to search your bags. Customary procedure for something like this."
  116. [19:00] <Kopesh> "Something like what?"
  117. [19:01] * Scribbles checks her own pockets, making sure nopony slipped her a gun or anything recently.
  118. [19:02] * Bonnet shrugs and slips off her saddlebag, tossing it onto the ground, "Don't get lost in there."
  119. [19:02] <~Headlong> The police officer frowns. "Something like protecting these murder witnesses."
  120. [19:05] * Scribbles passes over her own bag, and turns out her pockets, showing her notepad and press pass to the guard.
  121. [19:06] <~Headlong> The cop looks over his shades at the press pass. "Press, eh? Well, guess somepony's gotta cover this up till the election's over, right?" The other guard chuckles.
  122. [19:07] * Bonnet raises a hoof and waggles it slowly, "You can hold onto the trident, but I'll expect it back."
  123. [19:09] * Kopesh let's them look through his, getting out the straight razor for them to hold onto before they check. "You'll probably want to hold onto this for the time being as well."
  124. [19:11] * Scribbles rolls her eyes. "Oh, you fellas. Quit pickin' on a little mare." She jokes.
  125. [19:13] * Kopesh also gives them his knife.
  126. [19:13] <~Headlong> The unicorn of the group deposits the trident into a bin nearby. He does the same to Giddy's flare gun and Kopesh's weapons. "All right, then... I think you're all clear."
  127. [19:14] * Giddy grumbles. Whatever. Police better give his flare pistol back when he leaves.
  128. [19:15] <~Headlong> "You can pick these up on your way out." One guard says, hoofing those of them who had their weapons taken a red slip of paper. "Just give this to whoever's on duty."
  129. [19:15] * Scribbles takes back her press pass and notepad. "Thank you, kindly."
  130. [19:18] <~Headlong> The pegasus guard floats to the door and holds it open for them. The unicorn looks at the Mission Phone curiously before floating it back to Kopesh. "What's this... like, a calculator or something?"
  131. [19:19] * Kopesh heads through the door. "Pretty much."
  132. [19:20] * Bonnet slides her pack back on after they're finished looking through it, giving the guards a courteous bow.
  133. [19:25] * RadioHooves ([email protected]) has joined #FruityRumpusAssholeFactory
  134. [19:25] <~Headlong> The cop shrugs a little. "Weird..." As they step inside, they're greeted with an interior fitting of such an incredible exterior. Royal purple carpets stretch to the concierge desk, where sharply dressed stallions await to tend to every needs of this institution's guests. Similarly, purple tapestries hang from the tall walls. A concierge approaches the odd assortment of ponies. "Welcome to the Corsico. It's our pleasure to hav
  135. [19:26] * RadioHooves is now known as Redshift
  136. [19:26] <~Headlong> ... have you all."
  137. [19:28] <~Headlong> "My name is Foster, how may I help you?"
  138. [19:32] * Bonnet hangs back to let the others do the talking.
  139. [19:37] * Kopesh smiles at him. "Hello, we're here to speak to some people, if we're able."
  140. [19:38] <~Headlong> Foster smiles politely. "I'm afraid you'll have to be a bit more specific than that, sir. Are these people guests or employess?"
  141. [19:38] <~Headlong> employees*
  142. [19:41] * Scribbles flashes her pass of the press. "We're here to see some guests, about Miss Butterball. If they have the time, that is."
  143. [19:43] <~Headlong> Foster hmmmms. "All right. It's not often that we have... so many journalists come to our hotel together. If you'll excuse me."
  144. [19:47] <~Headlong> He makes his way to the concierge desk and shuffles through some papers.
  145. [19:49] <~Headlong> And then, eventually, he returns to them with several documents. "Here you go... These are the rooms they're staying in. Is there anything else you all will need?"
  146. [19:53] * Scribbles looks to the others. "I think that will do, for now."
  147. [20:01] * Giddy looks over Scribbles' shoulder at the list.
