In 1315 Pisa's Pavesari heavy infantry could withstand a heavy cavalry charge by Lucca knights at the battle of Montecattini. This was perfect for their pisan crossbows to eliminate said cavalry, but it did not take long for the lackluster mass in the pavisarii to falter to superior favalry.

Scudi and Targes were made of fig or willow wood and with a leather cover called an incoriati made of two whole ass or horse skins.
