  1. Procedure-

  3. 1. Set up experiment in a flume hood as shown in figure 1
  4. 2. Get empty soda can and set up ring stand. Make sure thermometer bulb is immersed in water
  5. 3. Pour 50 ml of water in can. Measure and record initial temp of water.
  6. 4. Weigh and record mass of empty evaporating circle
  7. 5. Weigh approx. 1.0g of popped corn and place in evaporating dish. Place dish below soda can
  8. 6. Ignite popcorn with combustible. Adjust height to be as close as possible. If flame goes out, relight.
  9. 7. When completely burned, stir water until temp stops rising and record final temperature
  10. 8. Let evaporating dish cooldown and find mass of dish with ashes and unburned popcorn
  11. 9. Enter data in report and perform calculations
  12. 10. Look up caloric content on bag of popcorn. Compare results to reported results. Enter all calculations
  13. 11. Repeat steps 1-10 with other provided food samples.
