- Procedure-
- 1. Set up experiment in a flume hood as shown in figure 1
- 2. Get empty soda can and set up ring stand. Make sure thermometer bulb is immersed in water
- 3. Pour 50 ml of water in can. Measure and record initial temp of water.
- 4. Weigh and record mass of empty evaporating circle
- 5. Weigh approx. 1.0g of popped corn and place in evaporating dish. Place dish below soda can
- 6. Ignite popcorn with combustible. Adjust height to be as close as possible. If flame goes out, relight.
- 7. When completely burned, stir water until temp stops rising and record final temperature
- 8. Let evaporating dish cooldown and find mass of dish with ashes and unburned popcorn
- 9. Enter data in report and perform calculations
- 10. Look up caloric content on bag of popcorn. Compare results to reported results. Enter all calculations
- 11. Repeat steps 1-10 with other provided food samples.
