- The process of wiping and installing Windows 10 is fairly simple. All you need is a blank DVD or a flash drive that is 4 GB or larger. I will be using a USB drive in this tutorial.
- First, plug in your USB drive into an available USB 3.0 port, if available. Then launch Command Prompt as Administrator. To do that, hold the Windows Button + X, then press A when the popup menu shows. Then click Yes when the User Account Control appears.
- Then type in these commands:
- 1.) diskpart
- -This will launch a disk partitioning utility to properly format your drive
- 2.) list disk
- -A list of the attached devices will show, take note of which one is your flash drive, use the size information to
- determine which is your flash drive
- 3.) select disk *
- -Replace the asterisk with the drive number from the previous step
- 4.) clean
- -This will initialize your drive, wiping everything including the file system
- 5.) convert GPT
- -This will convert the drive from MBR to GPT
- 6.) create partition primary
- -Self explanatory
- 7.) select partition 1
- -Selects the just created partition
- 8.) format fs=ntfs quick
- -Formats the flash drive to NTFS
- 9.) assign
- -A windows explorer menu might appear from the previous step, just close it
- 10.) exit
- - Self explanatory
- 11.) exit
- -Self explanatory
- You are done with the command prompt, now open your favorite internet browser and visit this page:
- Click the "Download Tool Now (64-bit version)" button
- Once downloaded, launch application and choose create media for another computer, then select English (United States) as language, select Windows 10 Home Edition (64-Bit) or Windows 10 Pro (64-Bit) depending if you have Windows 8.1 or Windows 8.1 Pro.
- Click next and choose USB Flash Drive, then select your flash drive, it might be listed as No Label.
- Then click Next to initiate the media creation.
- Repeat process if does not work initially and once successfully completed, continue to next step
- Leave your device plugged in and turn off your computer, tourn it on but open the boot menu before it fully starts up. Use F2, F6, F8, F12, F10, or ESC, or a combination of FN and one of those buttons. Each computer is different but keep experimenting until you get the boot menu.
- Once you get the boot menu open, select your flash drive and wait for it to boot.
