  1. It's time for a friendly Linux thread. This is intended for users of all levels, including absolute beginners; don't harass people who might not be as knowledgeable on the topic.

  3. It's recommended to start on a virtual machine or live CD/USB to familiarize yourself with the operating system before installing it. If you're switching from Windows or Mac OS, understand that much of your software will be unavailable. Use the OS to which you are planning on switching exclusively for a while; if you run into issues, it may not be for you.
