  1. >The mess hall of a pony base was a little irregular.
  2. >Their government emphasized unity and bonding, leaving their military friendlier than they probably should be.
  3. >The relaxed atmosphere of the dining was one of those times.
  4. >Furniture and spaces for any race imaginable was provided, with safety walkways and transit walks to stay out of the path of a giant pony’s hooves.
  5. >You were hanging on a railing for one of those walkways when a familiar figure approached.
  6. >Etched in English on a helmet perched above her happy expression, is her self-given designation.
  7. >You say her name curtly, and with a slight air of suspicion.
  8. “Daisy.”
  9. >”Good morning, human!” she says through your personal translator’s monotone, womanly voice.
  10. >You pause at her greeting and glance at a large screen displaying strange symbols.
  11. “It’s the afternoon.”
  12. >”Not on Earth it’s not!” she chirps in her sing-song voice.
  13. >”In fact, it’s Easter!”
  14. >Had it really been that long?
  15. >When was training supposed to end, again?
  16. >”I researched this human day of celebration and I have procured a bunny!”
  17. “You bought a bunny for Easter?”
  18. >She shakes her head and holds up some hulking metallic rabbit that you grimly note is built to her scale, making it easily the size of a small mech.
  19. >“I couldn’t ship a live rabbit from Earth so I found a robot!”
  20. >“Draw,” the robot comments.
  21. “That’s not what rabbits say.”
  22. >Daisy frowned at the inaccuracy.
  23. >”Are you sure? Sounds like an animal noise to me.”
  24. “No, that’s more of a statement.”
  25. >”Really? But it even lays eggs!”
  26. “What."
  27. >”Sure,” Daisy says, followed by a mechanical click.
  28. >A hatch pops open on the back of the rabbit and a colorful egg plops to the ground.
  29. >Did you mention the egg was about the size of a car?
  30. >The rabbit seems about as surprised as you are, craning its head to see what just happened.
  31. >Through its emotionless face, you sense confusion and embarrassment.
  32. >”T-tada!” Daisy says, standing proudly, “Are you impressed, human?”
  33. “Um, yes.”
  34. >"Good! I also found a chocolate-like substance for authentic human food!"
  35. >She steps out of the way with a big smile, making room for a pony-scaled basket filled with more colorful eggs and giant golden coins.
  36. >She drops the robot gently to the floor and gestures to the basket.
  37. >"Behold, I have the colored eggs and the basket, the rabbit and the gold doubloons!"
  38. "Where did you get giant gold coins? That's not even Easter."
  39. >Daisy tilted her head to the side as she listened intently to her translator piping into to her ears.
  40. >She took a few steps back and fished a coin out of the basket.
  41. >"Sure it is, edible coins!"
  42. "That doesn't look like a foil wrapper, how can you eat it?"
  43. >"Like this!" she cheerfully exclaimed and bit down on the coin, utterly obliterating it to pieces, wrapping and all.
  44. >When she pauses mid-chew to show her teeth, they're coated in chunks of chocolate like a cargo container full of the stuff had exploded.
  45. >Bits of shining metal decorate it like sparkling glitter.
  46. >Maybe it's just you, but it looks sharp, and that's ignoring the strange twinkling effect even though no lights are moving.
  47. >"See? Safe!"
  48. >Aliens are weird
