  1. >You were a Mirelurk, one of the many that called the irradiated Potomac your home
  2. >You cut an imposing figure as you rose from water; standing nearly 7' tall, encased in a shell that could deflect most bullets, and armed with claws that could tear open a car like a can of cram
  3. >You were a top predator, radiation-accelerated evolution making your kind strong!
  4. >You were a prime specimen, your strength getting you more food and females!
  5. >You were a menace, the super mutants told stories of you dragging them screaming to the bottom of the river single-clawedly!
  6. >You were a!-
  7. >"SHELLY!"
  8. >-pet
  9. >"Here Shelly, here boy!"
  10. >Your owner called out as she jogged on the riverbank
  11. >She was so much smaller than you, barely reaching up to the bottom of your face
  12. >Her hair started out almost black before going red at the tips
  13. >And on her back was a Gauss rifle, one of the few weapons that could punch through your shell
  14. >"There you are!"
  15. >Spotting you, she pounced, barreling into your chest and giving you a hug
  16. >You stood still, having to will your claws not to go for her head
  17. >No matter how many times she did, or how long she had been doing it, a hug still felt unnatural
  18. >Though you should be one to talk, I mean, whoever heard of a Mirelurk being raised as a pet?
  19.
  20. >"Alright Shelly, ready for some hunting?"
  21. >Of course you were, you were a top predator, of course! A Mirelurk Hunter, the best of the best!
  22. >A loud clicking is your confirmation to the tiny human that you are eager to kill. What was today's pray to be, you wonder.
  23. >"Great! I heard there's a pack of Yao Guai just up river that's been giving the caravans a rough time. The caps their offering is too good to pass up, Shelly!"
  24. >Caps. What a useless thing to fight for. You can't eat them, nor use them for combat or attract a mate. Why the tiny human fights for them, you know not.
  25. >But a hunt is a hunt, and you were eager to kill.
  26. >The girl lets go of you and turns, leading the way up stream, her Gauss Rifle at the ready.
  27. >You follow her from the water, ready to ambush anything that dares challenge you; the strongest of hunters!
  28. >Well, strongest not tiny red-clad human hunter.
  29. >Soon, your progress comes to a stop as the girl raises a fist, kneeling down before bringing her rifle up.
  30. >"There they are, Shelly. Looks like their nesting grounds are right there.. Huh.. I thought there was supposed to be more.."
  31. >Little red turns just in time to avoid a Yao Guai jumping down from the roof of what was once a bait shop near the river.
  32. >As she fires a shot at the first attacker, you exit the river, eager to take them on yourself.
  33. >Your challenge is met by a rather large Yao Guai who emerges from the side of the former shop.
  34. >You lower your head and charge, as the Yao Guai runs at you.
  35. >"Go Shelly!," she shouts, before turning her attention to the now alerted pack, firing round after round at them.
  36. >You hear her urge you on as your armored dome rams into the arms of the now standing Yao Guai
  37. >Your charge comes to a stop against it's heavy body, but that wasn't your only trick!
  38. >You take a step back to raise your head to see, sending your right claw at the creature as you do so
  39. >Your claw rips through it's exposed stomach, but this beast wouldn't go down easy
  40. >You jab your left claw at it as it swipes it's left paw, just managing to catch it in your claw and lock down on it.
  41. >Bones shatter in your grip as the evolved bear roars in pain, jabbing at you with it's other paw.
  42. >Too slow to intercept it with your other claw, the beast's paw bounces of your armored exterior, it's claws not sharp enough to pierce it
  43. >If you could chuckle, you would, but your loud clicking is heard as you toss aside the paw in your grip before slashing at the Yao Guai's stomach again, deepening your wound.
  44. >Still not done, the creature jabs it's paw at you again
  45. >You raise a claw, not enough to stop it, but you deflected it!
  46. >Straight into your unprotected face
  47. >One of the foul beast's claw's pierces your eye, sending a wave of pain through your body.
  48. >You step back, grabbing the paw with your claw and crushing it's bone in your grip.
  49. >Damn this hurt, but you won't let it slow you down!
  50. >You lower your head and charge forward into the wounded creature's chest.
  51. >Weakened, it was no match for your charge this time!
  52. >You plow your way into the side of the ruined shop, which gives way under your might.
  53. >When you raise your head, you look on at the Yao Guai, impaled by the broken boards that once made up the wall of the building.
  54. >You let out a triumphant series of clicks before turning.
  55. >Your master was faring well, but the Yao Guai's numbers were going to be a problem.
  56. >While she could easily take them out in a single shot, they were hardly letting her have the shot, their attacks keeping her on the defensive.
  57. >"Shelly!" She shouts, snapping you back into the battle.
  58. >You lower your head once more, charging forward.
  59. >You collide with a Yao Guai just before it gets in an attack on the human's blind side, knocking it away.
  60. >The two of you tumble down the bank of the river, the other Yao Guai seeing their chance to take one of you out, they lunge after you.
  61. >As you exchange blows with your original target, a second Yao Guai attacks your left side.
  62. >Unprepared, you take the attack for all it's worth, throwing you off the first Yao Guai and leaving a massive crack in your armor.
  63. >So, they needed cheap tricks and superior numbers?!
  64. >You truly were the best hunter!
  65. >But this battle was starting to take it's toll.
  66. >Your vision was damaged, and you had lost plenty of blood, and now you're armor was cracking.
  67. >You shake your head, dismissing the sensations of weakness and charge forth, putting your armored headpiece into the second beast's gut.
  68. >The Yao Guai jabs it's claws into the sides of your body as you ram it, the weakened armor giving out to it's massive paws and razor sharp claws, puncturing your sides.
  69. >You press on, ending your charge by bucking your head up, pushing the beast of your momentarily before you get blindsided by the first creature.
  70. >You get thrown back, the force of the impact leaving you without use of your left claw
  71. >You get back up somehow, just as the second creature rams into you, throwing you back
  72. >You land on your back as your vision fades
  73. >You faintly hear shouts and gunfire as your vision refocuses for a second to notice a Yao Guai over you, but before it can attack, it's chest seems to implode, and it's lifeless body slumps on you.
  74. >More gunfire.
  75. >Your vision fades again, and when it comes back, the tiny red girl is over you, and her eyes were wet.
  76. >You notice your body is no longer weighed down by the dead, but you still can't find the strength to get up.
  77. >"It'll be ok, Shelly... You'll make it..."
  78. >You let out a quiet series of clicks, all you could muster in your state.
  79. >You knew it was almost over; your time as this world's second best hunter.
  80. >The tiny human wraps her arms around you as your vision beings to fade for the final time.
  81. >You left your one good claw and place it around her.
