- Then why was one of your paying users in the autodl-community IRC upset that you would not assist them in installing autodl in any way -- despite them opening tickets and joining your IRC?
- Because if user fails simple googling, he has no business using it. We simply don't have the time to spend 5-15hours teaching basics, like what is irssi, what is irc.
- My behavior? The assumption that one of the most common torrenting tools used on a seedbox would run on a managed seedbox? Autodl-irssi? It does, again if you know what you are doing. We don't offer it out of the box, we don't advertise it. If you want it, you need to know how to install it, or get a dedicated server, and again install it yourself.
- Ok, so why not support the most common, like autodl-community?
- Once more, spending 5-15 hours per autodl-irssi user to teach them basics is not what we do. This is the sole reason we removed it. Everyone here simply got tired spending more than half their day explaining things starting from what is the internet and how you copy paste things.
- I guess newbs have heard about it, and want to use it, but have no idea of the basics and worst: Are unwilling to learn, google is like forbidden to these people.
- You are right -- but it is better if it actually has major bug fixes, and will run autodl.
- Again, runs autodl, if you know what you are doing. Only major drawback, and only thing we ever heard about was missing drag'n'drop, i guess even that plugin we could simply have dropped in place.
- What major bug fixes? Tell me 1 single example, because seriously cannot recall any major bug with ruTorrent 3.4 ...
- This is not about my taste. It's about the joke of a service you spam this subreddit with and the customers that have to go get support because you won't provide them the support they pay for.
- and exactly what i meant, just because it does not fit the picture of Your ideal world, does not mean instantly it's shit. It's just for someone else than You.
- This is 100% about Your taste.
- If a customer asks us to come and wipe their ass, in your opinion we should? Think again. We provide very specific service, and our goals are to have them easy, simply working, no fuss. To support whatever customer likes to ask goes against this philosophy. We added support for many things in the past few months, and we are already feeling the degraded level of service. Some things don't work as simply as we'd hope for anymore.
- But i don't expect you to understand these things, it sounds to me like you are Joe Average User, not someone who designs, maintains and builds these things as a profession.
- Things change dramatically when you need to consider 1000s of users, not just your own needs. Worst case: A tiny teeny mistake could result in 1500 tickets, each requiring 10+ minutes to resolve. At that scale, that kind of a mistake could easily result in 1000s of € lost revenue.
- MDS and SUDO: You miss the point of the service 100%. Try to grasp this: There are users who don't want anything to do with ROOT access or anything to do with the server, they just want high performance SERVICE, not a server, not a hobby, not a tool, but a SERVICE.
- Car analogy would be: Sure it's fun for many to have 30yo project car to tinker with, but some people simply need to get A to B and don't care about the rest, and there's where the grey Family Toyota steps in.
