  1. [10:16] <~Garlyle> Today is NEW YEAR'S DAY! And the metropolis of Ivoryscape is lit up nearly bright as day, even if it has gotten dark.
  2. [10:19] <Yvie> (Tempted to intro with a performance in the city.
  3. [10:19] <~Garlyle> Until now, the shops were what lit up the streets - open all night for the festivities, it was like the city had simply forgotten it was supposed to be asleep and was instead convinced it was the middle of the day. Very very few were the people who were not among the streets.
  4. [10:20] <~Garlyle> (That is reasonable)
  5. [10:21] <Yvie> 1d20+6 Perform
  6. [10:21] <~Garlyle> With many festivities planned for the night, things had finally gotten off to a delayed second bang - fifteen minutes late, the fireworks show had finally started, lighting up the dark night sky on this surprisingly warm winter night.

[10:23] <~Garlyle> The fireworks mark the beginning of the next phase of the festivities, and all too glad to begin after the crowds began to get anxious, performers begin to take to the street to entertain. Musicians and Magicians, Artists and Acrobats, gathering crowds in street corners, at tables at cafes, or from atop hotel balconies.
  12. [10:24] <~Garlyle> (This is where you guys come in, doing as you will for the moment)
  13. 06[10:24] * Yvie stands on something of a trailer stage, playing a cheerful pop rock song on air guitar before a reasonably sized crowd amidst the festivities. She's a slender black haired young woman dressed in blue.
  14. [10:26] <Yvie> "And so~, This year~, I vow~, to forget~, Put behind the heartache~"
  15. [10:27] <Kuji> A man dressed in black padded robes sips some milk tea as he stares at the performer. "So many songs about love these days..." he tsked, and finished his drink before throwing it in the trash.
  16. [10:27] <Yvie> ((*electric guitar
  17. [10:28] <Kuji> (Oh, I thought you were just a singer.)
  18. 06[10:28] * Jamal enters the crowd with as little subltly as possible. He's a tall man, dark skinned with a Captain's body armor. He can be seen talking into a walky talky about something or another.
  19. [10:30] <~Garlyle> Yvie's crowd cheers, getting quite into the show; they seem to be getting right into the music. Of course a few of them are pretty drunk by this point so it's a little hard to tell; but there's everyone from young children to a couple old ladies getting right into it!
  20. [10:30] <Jamal> (lol I read that and was wondering too, wtf is up with the air guitar)
  21. 06[10:31] * Yvie ends her song with a graceful outro, taking a playful bow before adressing the crowd, "Thank you! You've been such a great crowd. Happy New Year to you all." Meanwhile, from behind the stage, a Gothita creates a wave of darkness on the stage as Yvie makes her exit. This is just one of several Pokemon- created special effects one may have noted throughout the concert.

  23. [10:32] <Kuji> "Waiter." He gestures over to the waiter of the outdoor cafe. "Another milk tea, please."
  24. [10:32] <~Garlyle> The crowd whoops and cheers for Yvie, several throwing tips up onto the stage - gathered by a stagehand for her who's scampering around. Of course, with that source of entertainment gone, the crowd begins to disperse in all directions in search of further entertainment.
  25. 06[10:33] * Yvie seats herself at the restaurant herself shortly after the show, ordering a soda and glancing around at those gathered there with a curious smile.

  27. [10:34] <~Garlyle> A young waiter hurries to Kuji's side, dressed in bulky clothes for the winter, and pours him another cup quickly. He looks a little overworked, but like he's having fun. Once he's done, he hurries to Yvie's table. "That was fantastic! Can I get your autogra--no, wait, I'm on the job, can -I- get -you- anything?"
  28. 06[10:34] * Jamal enters the restaurant, takes a seat in the corner and looks around paitently, continuing to chat back and forth on the walky talky
  29. [10:34] <Jamal> "They did WHAT to the parade floats? I'm not even really upset, that's impressive. Have you apprehended them yet?"
  30. 06[10:36] * Kuji sips the drink. It was just how he liked it, bitter tea with a touch of sweetness to balance out the flavor. "That girl's pretty famous, huh?" he said aloud to himself, glancing at the captain who walked past.

  32. [10:37] <Yvie> "Just a soda, please sir," she giggles flirtily as she smiles at the waiter.
  33. [10:38] <Yvie> Her ears curiously turn towards Jamal on the walky talky, even if the rest of her seems remakably composed.
  34. [10:38] <Jamal> "What do you mean you haven't apprehended them? They stole maskot costumes and are impersonating festival staff? What do we pay you bafoons for if they can vandilize everything!"
  35. [10:39] <~Garlyle> The waiter puffs up confidently at the giggle. "Right away, my lady~" he tries to turn on the charm and sweeps himself away, returning with her drink quickly.
  36. [10:39] <Kuji> (Just to make sure, are we inside or outside?)
  37. [10:40] <Jamal> "Don't you oh sir me now, next you'll tell me the clowns have gone wild - speak of the devil you can't be serious"
  38. 06[10:40] * Jamal sighs and waves a waiter over, "Coffe, please. no sugar"
  39. [10:41] <~Garlyle> The waiter nods at Jamal, and hurries off; bringing the officer back a cup of nice, strong, and fresh coffee. "Here you are!"
  40. 06[10:41] * Kuji picked up his drink and moved inside to the restaurant, sitting at a table close to the door. He really wanted to listen in on the captain's ramblings... there might be some good information.
  41. 06[10:43] * Yvie continues to listen in on the conversation, but otherwise looks completely casual. As the waiter brings her a soda, she leaves an autgraphed card along with the tip.
  42. [10:43] <Jamal> "but you DID pursue the clown, right? Oh, okay, the wanderer's handled it. Good to see SOMEONE is doing their job"

  45. [10:44] <~Garlyle> The waiter looks utterly ecstatic, scrambling off into the back in happiness. Meanwhile, for the patrons of the small cafe, everyone seems interested in listening to the captain's crazy ranting - the place has almost fallen silent except for the sounds of music coming from another concert somewhere nearby. And Jamal's barking, of course.
  46. [10:45] <Kuji> "Sounds more like a vigilante to me." He said out loud to himself. "Five hundred pok- oh, it is a Wanderer. Never mind."
  47. 06[10:46] * Jamal finally notices this change in atmosphere
  48. 06[10:47] * Yvie seems markedly more interested as Jamal mentions the wanderers, joining in the silent attention to him.
  49. [10:47] <Kuji> "Took you long enough."
  50. [10:47] <Jamal> "let me know if anything else happens. I'm out for now." pppsh, puts walky talky away
  51. [10:47] <~Garlyle> The air falls quiet. There's the chill of realisation, of awkwardness, and maybe a little disappointment from the listeners!
  52. 06[10:47] * Jamal sips his coffee, with a total pokerface
  53. [10:47] <~Garlyle> ...Actually, it really has started getting a little extra chilly in here.
  54. 06[10:48] * Kuji chuckles, and motions silently for the waiter. He drops a few extra bucks in there, pointing at the captain.
  55. [10:48] <~Garlyle> With Jamal done providing entertainment, however, the chatter of patrons begins to pick back up.
  56. [10:49] <~Garlyle> The waiter seems to have gone into the back for the moment. He's not out and about - none of the staff are, now that you look.
  57. 06[10:49] * Yvie notes the absence of staff and grows a bit suspicious, glancing between Jamal and the area.
  58. 06[10:50] * Kuji looks around, making sure to cover his blind spot. "Well, no one can tell me otherwise." he said, taking his halberd from the front area.
  59. [10:50] <~Garlyle> Amongst the din of the chatter picking back up, three oh so familiar noises go off simultaneously.
  60. 06[10:50] * Jamal is too absorbed in his coffee for the moment being.
  61. [10:50] <Jamal> "mmmm, coffee"

  63. [10:51] <Kuji> Fireworks?
  64. [10:51] <Kuji> Oh.
  65. [10:51] <Jamal> (I was wondering if we had a code word or something)
  66. 06[10:51] * Jamal spits his coffee everywhere at the sound of it, then notices the two additional sources.
  67. 06[10:51] * Kuji picks up the phone, taking a note on where the other two phones were. "Yello?"
  68. [10:52] <~Garlyle> It's not a phone, it's a Pokedex. And there's a message sitting on it. The Wanderers never make an actual call to their operatives.
  69. 06[10:53] * Kuji shakes his head. "Where is my mind." He opens up the menu and reads the message.
  70. [10:53] <~Garlyle> "Happy New Year's, Wanderers!" the message begins, and a shiver runs down all three Wanderers' spine, but it doesn't seem like it's from the message itself - it's gotten oddly chilly.
  71. 06[10:53] * Yvie takes out her Pokedex and reads, a curious smile forming on her features.
  72. [10:54] <~Garlyle> "Has it gotten colder?"
  73. [10:54] <~Garlyle> "Please go shut the freezer."
  74. [10:54] <~Garlyle> That's the entirity of the message.

  77. 06[10:54] * Kuji tightens his robes, only noticing the chill slightly. "...how do they know we're here?"
  78. 06[10:55] * Jamal being unsubtle as usual today, simply chimes in, "well, I can see this flashy suit STILL attracts tons of attention."
  79. [10:55] <~Garlyle> They always know. Somehow, they -always- know. Some wanderers get used to the fact... some are forever creeped out by it~
  80. [10:56] <Kuji> He motions the other two Wanderers to follow and he readies his halberd for the attack as he rushes, but not runs, into the kitchen area.
  81. [10:56] <~Garlyle> Still, you've been given a mission - although one of you seems all too eager to complete it.
  82. 06[10:56] * Jamal seems to be taking his time, just another day on the job...whistles as he readies his crossbow.
  83. 06[10:57] * Yvie nods, quickly following behind, "Hey, wait up." Unlike the others, she doesn't have a weapon, but her guitar is still with her.
  84. [10:57] <Jamal> "oh the things I do for my country"
  85. [10:57] <~Garlyle> A few heads turn as Kuji rushes armed into the kitchen. A little bit of panic ensues when a crossbow is also drawn, and people politely get up and leave the building in worry. Also, for some to skip out on paying
  86. [10:57] <Jamal> "HEY, I SAW THAT. YOU THERE, IN THE BLUE. He didn't...pay."
  87. [10:57] <~Garlyle> The moment Kuji opens the door to the kitchen, he is met not with the heat that should be felt - but rather the bite of a snowstorm whipping about the place!
  88. [10:58] <~Garlyle> And it whips its way right out of the kitchen in the process, scaring the other customers that were still around into fleeing.
  89. 06[10:59] * Kuji shivers a little. "Pokemon temperature..." He glances at the captain, tilting his head towards the kitchen. He was used to dealing with trainers and regular people. Not pokemon.
  90. [11:00] <Jamal> "we're gonna need....some more firepower."
  91. [11:00] <Jamal> (YEAAAAH)
  92. 06[11:00] * Jamal he takes out a pokeball, and from it comes a Sneasle
  93. [11:01] <~Garlyle> The kitchen is a wreck - things are already beginning to frost over, and even Jamal's jokes can't warm things up - it's a literal hailstorm inside, battering against everyone's skin.
  94. 06[11:01] * Yvie also removes a Pokeball and releases a Mienfoo.
  95. [11:01] <Yvie> "Anyone got a bit of flame?"
  96. [11:01] <Jamal> "Beta, you're used to cold temperatures. This should be no problemo
  97. [11:01] <~Garlyle> (Perception checks!)

  106. [11:02] <~Garlyle> Yvie, Kuji - you think, just barely, among the battering of the pans by the ice and snow flying around - you can hear pounding from what looks to be the freezer in the far corner.
  107. [11:02] <Kuji> (Wisdom is our dump stats. >_>)
  108. [11:02] <~Garlyle> It is closed, and the door is a little iced over.
  109. [11:02] <Jamal> (I would have it at 10 but I herped and derped on Jamal's sheet :( )
  110. [11:03] <Kuji> "Do you want me to open that?" He gestures to the freezer door.
  111. [11:03] <~Garlyle> Jamal: You notice it's FUCKING COLD in here
  112. 06[11:03] * Jamal puts away the crossbow, and pulls out a boot knife. "This looks like it's gonna get dirty in close corners. Let's do this," he nods at the door.
  113. 06[11:04] * Yvie stays back, letting the people with -weapons- do the advancing.
  114. 06[11:05] * Kuji nods. "Alright." He places his halberd next to the handle so that he is gripping both the door and the weapon at the same time, and attempts to pull it open.
  115. [11:05] <~Garlyle> Now that you're close, you think you can also hear people calling for help from the other side. It's hard to hear over these goddamn clattering pans and plates. Oh god did a wind just pick up to boot? How does that even happen!?

  131. [11:09] <~Garlyle> Yvie is watching them force the door open, and then she spots what might be the source of the hail - it's like a descending ball of snow covering something, but it seems to be preparing to ambush Jamal and Kuji. She has but a moment to do something, what does she do!?
  132. [11:09] <~Garlyle> Jamal and Kuji have not noticed as they are busy breaking the ice
  133. [11:10] <Kuji> (But we are manly men! We could probably take the hit.)

  135. [11:11] <Yvie> "Ooh, that looks like whatever might be causing the hail," she tries to scan it with her Pokedex before doing anything.

  139. [11:12] <~Garlyle> You get a beep as the Pokedex begins scanning
  140. 06[11:12] * Yvie tries not to look TOO oblivious to her companion's struggle, but it's hard.
  141. [11:13] <~Garlyle> Of course, it's going to take a moment - and the thing is attacking!

  163. 06[11:16] * Jamal falls over from the rainbow blast, then gets back up, knife in hand. "Let's do this shit face."

  165. 06[11:16] * Kuji lets go of the handle, reading his attack stance in front of the pokemon. "It's go time."
  166. [11:16] <Kuji> Well, I don't really care. You can go first.
  167. 03[11:16] * Garlyle changes topic to 'Welcome to the Altho Region, Wanderers! Kuji = Jamal > Yvie || I NEED TO KNOW YOUR POKEMON'S SPEED STATS TOO GUYS'

  175. [11:19] <~Garlyle> Remember, it's hailing! All non-ice combatants take 1/16th of their HP in damage!
  176. [11:19] <~Garlyle> (As in right now, so be sure to make a note)
  177. [11:19] <~Garlyle> The kitchen is not too big for the Cryogonal to run from you; you're all pretty much in close proximity to one another!
  178. [11:20] <~Garlyle> And finally: The ice and snow seems to have built up a tough shell around this Cryogonal; you might have to do a little more damage than you'd expect to take it down!
  179. [11:20] <Kuji> (One STR away from Thrust...)
  180. [11:20] <Yvie> ((So, what's in a 5 meter burst radius away from Cryogonal?))]
  181. [11:21] <Kuji> (...make sure you know the difference between blast and burst, please.)
  182. 06[11:21] * Jamal "Stand ready, we shall be victorious!" (Capatain's Rally, you guys get +3 on all modifier rolls for 3 rounds)

  193. 06[11:23] * Kuji throws a pokeball behind him, and quickly he jabs the pokemon with his might. "Raft, get him!" (Trainer Attack)

  199. [11:25] <~Garlyle> Kuji's halberd thrust stabs into the Cryogonal - it seems to go nearly right through the buildup of snow on the thing, taking off a chunk of it - it hasn't actually wounded the Cryogonal underneath though.

  206. [11:27] <~Garlyle> (Yes, for the record, you did damage it - you're just cutting through its buffer HP instead of its actual HP right now)
  207. [11:27] <Kuji> (I know. That "So..." was me failing to make conversation.)
  208. 06[11:27] * Jamal checks what the scanner says about its power level
  209. [11:27] <Kuji> ...

  305. 06[11:48] * Kuji glances at Jamal with a glare and grips the door handle, pulling it open. He had a duty to protect the people, so he might as well hurry it up.

  310. [11:49] <~Garlyle> Thanks to Kuji and Jamal's MANLY DISPLAY earlier, the ice cracks off and the door slams open suddenly. Out stumbles the chef and a waitress, more than happy to get out of the freezer - they've nearly got ice clinging onto their skin
  311. [11:50] <Jamal> "By Zeus's beard! We need to get these two some blankets or something," brings out his walky talky and starts yelling into it.
  312. [11:50] <Kuji> "Hmph." He left the talking to the captain as he stared and watched.

  314. [11:51] <Yvie> "You two don't look so good," she frowns, but otherwise lets Jamal ask the questions to them.
  315. [11:53] <~Garlyle> The two look to each other, trying to warm up; then the waitress starts bursting into tears as she sees the kitchen. She's a much older woman, looking quite !"unhappy about the cold - but more than that, she's unhappy about something enough to burst into tears. "Oh, please don't think ill of him, I'm sure he didn't mean bad by it!"

  317. [11:54] <~Garlyle> The chef is an older man, who wraps his arms around the woman who is most likely his wife. "There there, dear... don't cry."

  320. [11:56] <~Garlyle> The chef pats his wife's head softly to calm her down, but he nods when Kuji makes his observation. "That's right. Our son... is he not with you?"

  322. [11:56] <Jamal> "GET THIS BLANKETS TO THE CAFE, PRONTO," repeats Jamal to the walky talky.

  327. 06[11:57] * Jamal shakes his head, "all the employees were missing by the time we entered here, sir"

  342. [12:01] <Yvie> "I don't suppose either he or you own a Cryogonal that you know of?"
  343. [12:02] <~Garlyle> "A Cryogonal? No, none of us do," the man shakes his head, looking down at it. Then, he starts quietly describing his son - exactly as the waiter you had met only a few minutes before.

  345. [12:03] <Jamal> "huh. most curious."
  346. 06[12:03] * Jamal turns to the walky talky, "WHERE ARE THOSE BLANKETS? And I got a description of a missing person I need you to locate,..." he trails off as he goes into description
  347. [12:04] <~Garlyle> He doesn't get far though before the wife's bawling picks back up; only drowned out by the sounds of sirens as officers finally make their way to the cafe.
  348. [12:04] <Kuji> "Oh, that reminds me." He pulls out his own pokedex. "Can you send me the info on that thing? We may need the info later on." he says quickly to Yvie.
  349. 06[12:04] * Jamal turns away from the walky talky, "I'd appreciate that transmission as well."
  350. 06[12:05] * Yvie 's atttention is suddenly pulled ot Kuji, "O-oh, right." he then proceeds to transmit the data on the Cryogonal.
  351. [12:08] <~Garlyle> (For the record, you each obtain 2500 EXP from the battle)
  352. 06[12:08] * Kuji gets the data and quickly scans it. "I was right. Fighting moves do hit it hard. Good to know." He closed the pokedex and readied his halberd. "Shall we get going?"
  353. [12:09] <Yvie> "Right!"
  354. [12:09] <Jamal> "Aye, let's get going."
  355. [12:10] <~Garlyle> (In the aftermath, you're also each promised a meal in the future from the cafe - you might want to note it down so you can cash in on it later; it'll have special effects)
