  56. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:41 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  57. I know there's some sort of connection going through, because when I hit "Detect monitors" on the AMD Control Center, it almost "Refreshes" the Self Test feature screen.

  75. thank you for the confirmation.
  76.
  77. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:45 PM] -- Raja M says:
  78. Caitlin as I see from the system specifications the video of your pc is onboard. Both the ports will work fine standalone, however onboard video doesn't support Dual monitors.
  79.
  80. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:46 PM] -- Raja M says:
  81. To setup dual monitors, you need an external video card on your PC. The reason behind this is the power and memory that is required by the onboard video is not enough to support dual displays.
  82.
  83. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:47 PM] -- Raja M says:
  84. Whereas, an external video card has a standalone memory and it can deliver and consume much power and thus capable of handling multiple monitors.
  85.
  86. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:47 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  87. um
  88.
  89.
  90. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:48 PM] -- Raja M says:
  91. As I see there is an empty PCI Express x16 slot on the motherboard, where you can put an external video card and setup dual displays with no problem.
  92.
  93. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:49 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  94. Yes, but
  95.
  96. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:49 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  97. They had this PC set up at the store, WITH dual displays on and working fine.
  98.
  99. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:49 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  100. It was advertised as capable of dual display
  101.
  102. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:49 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  103. actually I think i have a picture of the fact tag still, let me check.
  104.
  105.
  106. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:50 PM] -- Raja M says:
  107. Even though it advertise as capable, it wont work, the reason is the video cannot utilize much resources to support this feature.
  108.
  109. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:54 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  110. On the specs page
  111.
  112. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:54 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  113. Integrated graphics using ATI Radeon 4200
  114. Integrated graphics: concurrent use of the the DVI and VGA ports is supported.
  115.
  116.
  117. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:55 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  118. It says "can be used at the same time"
  119.
  120.
  121. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:56 PM] -- Raja M says:
  122. Absolutely, but as I said that it will not work because of the onboard framework of how it is setup.
  123.
  124. [Monday, August 22, 2011 11:58 PM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  125. Ok, so what aspect directly is responsible for the lack of dual monitor display?
  126.
  127. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:00 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  128. Because it is advertised as being able to run dual monitors. http://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-p7-1010-Desktop-Black/dp/B0051OM5NA "Supports multiple monitors for more workspace and easy multitasking"
  129.
  130. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:00 AM] -- Raja M says:
  131. As I said before, dual monitors is a concept that works perfect with standalone video cards that has standalone memory and consumes power. The motherboard which you have is capable of handling external video card and this is why there is a separate dedicated slot for it.
  132.
  133. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:02 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  134. Why does it say it supports multiple monitors if out of the box, it doesnt?
  135.
  136. Thats partially the reason I bought this one. So that i DIDNT have to buy an extra video card.
  137.
  138. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:02 AM] -- Raja M says:
  139. But before you install the card, you might need to install the power supply as well, the power supply on your pc is 250 W and recent manufacturers of the video cards manufactures cards that work with minimum 300 w of power supply.
  140.
  141. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:03 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  142. Indeed, I know about the extra video cards and the power supplies, but it's advertised as supporting multiple monitors. Just the idea of having an extra slot in which you can put an extra video card into, does NOT make it supporting multiple monitors. If that was the case, over 90% of computers ever made can "support" multiple monitors
  143.
  144. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:08 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  145. In fact, I just got out the user manual that came with it.. and there's a big insert that is entitled: Setting up your multiple-display solution.
  146.

  177. On the back of the poster, it has a quick setup guide, on which it says "see the back of this poster for additional configuration instructions." the bottom of the poster the UPC-like code says 651081-DN2
  178.
  179. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:20 AM] -- Raja M says:
  180. and I do appreciate your knowledge and I agree with you that it should, but it never does
  181.
  182. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:21 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  183. Then, I would like a phone number to someone higher up to further discuss this issue, please.
  184.
  185. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:22 AM] -- Raja M says:
  186. the setup for dual displays is pretty simple, the problem here is, your monitors will work standalone, but the moment you connect two of them with two ports, one will get signal, the other wont.
  187.
  188. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:26 AM] -- Raja M says:
  189. I do understand your concern and I understand the value of it. HP is looking for this resolution, but as far as I know the onboard video requires huge resources and capability to support such multiple monitor features. HP phone number : 1-800-474-6836.
  190.
  191. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:31 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  192. The fact it has instructions to get it working out of the box, and is advertised as supporting multiple monitors says otherwise. I've dealt with HP support before with another computer with a sound issue about 7 years ago. They told me my sound card was bad, he was experienced in that sort of thing. I found out eventually that the newest driver on HP's site made it not work, and that downgrading the driver fixed the problem. 7 years later, that computer and its sound is still running strong. I know you guys aren't completely trained and experienced in everything that goes wrong, but with my previous experience, it's in my belief that the computer -does- support dual display as advertised, otherwise they wouldn't advertise it as such.
  193.
  194. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:32 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  195. I'll call that number, and im sure they wont know either, and will refuse to let me speak to a manager. I guess I will have to attempt to return it... I sell these computers, and I won't recommend them to my customers anymore. This is ridiculous.
  196.
  197.
  198. [Tuesday, August 23, 2011 12:32 AM] -- Cait*** ****** says:
  199. Thank you for your time anyway.
