The Lonely Dreamer

more time spent alone
each and every day
looking from a distance
trying to find my may

The more time spent looking out
the more i look inside
there is only me there
no one else to confide

the shadows come alive
dancing with the light
everything is calm
everything feels right

I peer deeper inside
this cave within my mind
i step away from reality
anxious to what i may find

A quick glance behind me
the lights fading from my view
physically i am shaken
but my resolve remains true

the shadows are alive
conquering the light
everything is black
everything in sight

there is no sound
i cannot see
nothing to touch
there is only me

but the silence has a tone
the darkness takes a form
and the hollow can be felt
my mind becomes a storm

the shadows become a torrent
there never was a light
i'm standing in the calm
but nothing here feels right

now before me stand three figures
or maybe its just one
three faces bearing a name
the elder, the father, and son

Their form is intangible
but somehow distinct
they each hold their chain
together they are linked

the shadows are born of them
like a candle gives birth to light
i am pulled to where they stand
i have no will to fight

the son speaks first:
"i am ambition, your pride
i was each and every dream
you forgot and so i died"

a smile like pity..maybe relief
flit across his face
now he's gone.. or was he ever there
two remained in place

the father lifts his head:
"I am strength, the rock you stand on
your will to fight for those you love
but you ran and now i'm gone"

his head lowers as though in shame
his form crumbles and blows away
only one shade left
the only one to stay

The elders voice sounds older than time itself:
"I am wisdom and humility
you never once knew me
always lost.. in your vanity"

his voice begins to change
its no longer soft and sage
now it tastes like poison
fermented and bittered with age

"you had life given to you
you were even give choice
you're his pride and joy?"
the malice is clear in his voice

"you took it all from me!
i was his favorite and best
but when you came along
i was forgotten like all the rest!"

I realize the old sage no longer stands before me
two wings sprawl out from the twisted being
both of them black and without feather
i know now who this is that i'm seeing

the administer of my judgment
born of jealousy and rage
come to give my sentence
this void.. to forever be my cage

he puts his hands on my shoulders
"but now your forgotten just like me"
his forehead rests against my own
"this place IS you, your eternity!"

With that hes gone
and i remembered the three
they each had a name
their name.. it was me.

i look around
but there is only me
my arms are bound and in my hands..
the chain that joined the three

i close my eyes to take it all in
this can't be real only a...
there's not a sliver of light
not even a gleam

forever i'm alone
what the hells a day
lost in the distance
i'll never find my way
