  29. MELTY BLOOD is fun and addictive. It's also very pad/keyboard friendly so either one is fine.
  30.
  31. Q. So how many characters are in MELTY BLOOD?
  32. As of now there are 31 playable characters, however each character has 3 different variations of fighting style so that makes it more or less 93 casts excluding hidden characters.

  72. ==WHERE TO NETPLAY==
  73.
  74. http://boards.4chan.org/jp/
  75. Sometimes there's a dead netplay thread on /jp/ so it's better to find matches there than on other boards. If you're hosting always mention your location & skill level and have your port forwarded.
  76.
  77. http://bit.ly/y5e2JX or join #mbaa (channel) on mizuumi.net (server) using IRC.
  78. If you don't have an IRC client, simply click on the link above to connect through your web browser. The channel is dead most of the time so you won't have much trouble finding someone to play with.
  79.
  80. ==QUICK GUIDE TO NETPLAY==
  81.
  82. 1. Don't use wireless connection (please).
  83. 2. Don't download/upload/stream anything (torrents, siblings, roommates).
  84. 3. Port forwarding is required if you want to host games (UDP&TCP 46318).
  85. 4. My preferred settings are windowed 1024x768 resolution, stage animation on, character filter to full, screen filter to off, aspect ratio to auto, and view fps on. If your PC can't handle it then set in game resolution to default (windowed 640x480), turn off stage animation, character filter, screen filter in the option settings.
  86. 5. The netplay has a tendency to desync a lot, when it does simply rehost/reconnect after a desync. If the other player don't budge, moves in a fixed pattern, whiffs in empty space, drops combos, then that's a good indication of a desync.
  87. 6. It's strongly recommended to play people near your region because anything over delay 5 is frustrating for both players. The matching mode does not work unless you're using a genuine server identified CD-KEY, so your only choice is direct connect mode.
  88.
  89. ==HOW TO HOST AND PORTFORWARD==
  90.
  91. http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/
  92. For more information go to http://portforward.com/
  93.
  94. 1: run>cmd>ipconfig
  95. 2: find your own ip address (can also find by trying to host) and the default gateway (probably 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1)
  96. 3: enter the default gateway into your web browser address bar.
  97. 4: you may be promoted for a username & password. This depends on your service provider, google it! (usually its admin & password)
  98. 5: look around for an option to port forward (it may be under connection rules/security or something, again depends on yout ISP. if unsure GOOGLE!)
  99. 6: change it so the TCP/UDP port 46318 is allowed under inbound rules! (by default all inbound connection are blocked, this is why you can't host)
  100. 7: Save and exit
  101. 8: Play some MBAACC
  102.
  103. ==HOW TO IMPROVE NETPLAY EXPERIENCE==
  104.
  105. Hosts should announce where they're from & skill level when hosting (IP and PORT). It also helps if the challenger shows their location by filling out the comment section under their username (e.g. EC).
  106. The delay calculation is messed up, it might decide the delay based on your ping at time of connection. Don't go dl/up/streaming/browsing the web while hosting for someone to connect.
  107. Do not download/upload/stream anything while netplaying, it's common sense. Is your download/upload speed good enough for online games? You should know this, if it's not then get a better ISP.
  108. Do not use wireless/wi-fi connection, even if it's wireless N your signal drops periodically which causes lag spikes. Wired connection is strongly recommended if you want a good latency & stability.
  109. Port forward UDP&TCP 46318. Required if you want to host games.
  110.
  111. The lag has to do with huge resource consumption in netplay which is worsened by high settings. So for bad computers low settings is usually the only way to keep it stable.
  112. Make sure your PC can handle MBAA:CC, that means it shouldn't drop below 60FPS at any given time. Netplay uses more resources than playing offline because of QUALITY JAPANESE ENGINEERING so keep that in mind. Turning off the stage animation, character filter, and screen filter is recommended if your PC can't handle MBAA:CC. Optimize it until you get it right in the option settings or save yourself the trouble and buy a better PC. It's recommended to set your in-game resolution to default (640x480) if you have a shitty PC. Play in windowed mode and not full screen otherwise shit breaks.
