  3. [2013-09-25 13:30:27] <Kkat> 3To help them grow, and to shield them from harm. Much like the sequester spell and the pylon fence were meant to shield the crystal ponies from outside aggressors in their time of vulnerability.
  4. [2013-09-25 13:34:54] <Kkat> 3But the true leaders of the Crystal Empire, Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor, have long ago vanished. And the custodians that they left behind, the simulacrums called Doctor Amore and Professor Paladin, have failed in their responsibilities. Guidance has become a straightjacket and protection a prison.

  6. [2013-09-25 13:37:32] <Kkat> 3Instead, the Crystal Ponies exist in status and stagnation while the empire which was once their home crumbles. The Crystal Empire lies in ruins. Not from a megaspell, but from the collapse of order, centuries long, which has left only the desperate, the wicked and the insane as its only inhabitants.

[2013-09-25 13:45:00] <Kkat> 3Their adventures in this place have made them allies: Butterfly, the living computer who attends the Equestrian Embassy (and Ministry of Peace hub), Sweet-E, the living computer who was once the tour guide for a Stable-Tec computer and securities R&D facility, and Pink-E, the curious pink sprite-bot and self-proclaimed Official Welcome Party Spritebot.

  10. [2013-09-25 13:48:55] <Kkat> 3Before the heroes is a deep gorge. Just beyond it, the crystal ruins are dominated by a pink bubble of energy. Inside, the virtually intact Crystal Empire Library -- home of Professor Paladin and his prize, the Crystal Heart.

  13. [2013-09-25 13:50:14] * Get_Lost looks down and frowns "so.... what do we do, we just trot there and ring the bell?"
  14. [2013-09-25 13:52:10] <Kkat> 3Pink-E bleeps happily. "Oh, I know! I know! I fly in through the special spritebot maintenance hatch and open it from the inside just like Stable-Tec! Right?"
  15. [2013-09-25 13:52:17] * CopyCat yawns. She'd kept watch after Kid had eventually fallen asleep. Even the most stouthearted adventurer needed to rest some time. "Yes, a friendly approach might work."
  16. [2013-09-25 13:53:05] <Kkat> 3The shield around the library glows an almost sinister hot pink against the deepening blues of the evening sky. A soft and slightly chilly wind has picked up.
  17. [2013-09-25 13:53:23] * Bookwright nods. "If it doesn't work, we haven't lost anything. Go for it."
  18. [2013-09-25 13:54:25] * Noble_Heart looks down on the shield with a frown as she listens to the blowing wind, showing no sign of the cold which doubtless blusters against her bulk. "We will need to move fast. We have little doubt that Professor Paladin will overlook Our intrusion for long. And if he has combat robots to compare with those of Stable-Tec this may become disastrous very quickly."
  19. [2013-09-25 13:54:26] <Kkat> 3Pink-E zips forward, getting several yards out over the gorge before energy blasts from below drive the little sprite-bot back with a series of yelps.
  20. [2013-09-25 13:56:07] * Kkat 3beeps, announcing. "Oops! Lots of Professor Paladin's crystal battle ewes in the gorge!" She add quite unnecessarily, "I'm not really good at stealth."
  21. [2013-09-25 13:56:19] * CopyCat winces. "Oh dear... I don't think we can stop lasers with pleasant conversation."
  22. [2013-09-25 13:56:41] * Noble_Heart peers down into the pit. "Perhaps We should visit Solaris Inc first. If Professor Paladin is using a version of the fences to protect his Forbidden Zone We may need to properly vibrate his protection before We can enter."
  23. [2013-09-25 13:58:55] * Bookwright ponders. "Maybe if we built an ablative shield out of clipboards and put it on the bottom of the wagon...? No, then the princesses wouldn't have any protection..."
  24. [2013-09-25 13:59:57] * Noble_Heart contemplates briefly. "Did We not find something about Crystal Battle Ewe food supplies in the Stable-Tec building? Perhaps a distraction is in order."
  25. [2013-09-25 14:00:08] * Shatara ponders the situation some.
  26. [2013-09-25 14:00:43] * Bookwright "Yeah, that might work. But there would have to be a lot of them."
  27. [2013-09-25 14:02:13] * CopyCat nods. "I like the idea of making them treats. They must be getting food from somewhere, but it's probably not much."
  28. [2013-09-25 14:06:55] * Get_Lost "ah.... they eat mostly power... if the shield in that place means something, i'd say they get more than enough power to feed themselves and gain a lot of weight"
  29. [2013-09-25 14:07:12] * Get_Lost then mutters "mhhhh.... fat bottomed ewes...."
  30. [2013-09-25 14:07:54] * Bookwright cocks an eyebrow at Get_Lost. "I don't think that robots can get fat."
  31. [2013-09-25 14:08:28] * Get_Lost they aren't robots... they are genetically modified cute ewes...
  32. [2013-09-25 14:08:48] * Bookwright "Um."
  33. [2013-09-25 14:09:01] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side. "Did Ewey not eat his way into communication wiring? Perhaps We could provide them with gems to confuse them?" She frowns. "We do not suspect that We could simply sneak something so large across the gap. Though We might be able to help teleport many of Our friends across it would be exhausting."
  34. [2013-09-25 14:09:20] <Kkat> 3The gorge is a huge, curving scar through the north-east quarter of the Crystal Empire. Sweet-E explains that it was caused by the collapse of crystal mines under the city. Now, it is the playground of dozens of the large, crystaline monsters that Professor Paladin has termed his "battle ewes".
  35. [2013-09-25 14:09:29] * Bookwright "I could share in the burden of teleportation, O Noble Heart."
  36. [2013-09-25 14:12:02] * Get_Lost "ah... if we get something to make a radio we could try to ask to parley with the professor and not fight at all?"
  37. [2013-09-25 14:13:16] * CopyCat bites her lip. "But he might answer back over the loud speaker... I'm not sure if my ears could survive a whole conversation like that."
  38. [2013-09-25 14:14:43] * Noble_Heart smirks a little at Get Lost. "We believe We might be able to be loud enough to be heard by him anyway. But doubt that he would wish to talk."
  39. [2013-09-25 14:15:17] * Get_Lost "why not? i mean, he think he's a pony, after all... probbly he'll try to be reasonable"
  40. [2013-09-25 14:19:57] <Kkat> 3"NO CRYSTAL IS AS HARD AS MY HEART IS FOR YOU, DOCTOR AMORE!" booms across the sky like thunder!
  41. [2013-09-25 14:21:35] * Noble_Heart groans. "Because he has shown no willingness to speak to anyone..."
  42. [2013-09-25 14:21:41] * Get_Lost frowns "sure he yells lotta stuff.... so... teleport, you say"
  43. [2013-09-25 14:21:50] * Bookwright "I really don't want to risk the wagon that we just fixed... I say we just teleport."
  44. [2013-09-25 14:22:06] * Get_Lost nodnods "yeah, seems safer"
  45. [2013-09-25 14:27:17] * Bookwright "Okay, Noble Heart? I think teleporting is the safest option. I can take up to five passengers with me in one go. Make sure you have plenty of power for your combat spells, okay?"
  46. [2013-09-25 14:29:31] * Noble_Heart nods her head. "We can take four more. That should be plenty. Though We would be severely drained by doing so. There are," she pauses briefly, "six of us who need to cross this. We would recommend you take as many as you can safely and We shall take those who remain."
  47. [2013-09-25 14:31:04] * Bookwright nods. "Yes. Okay. So, I'll take Kid, Copy Cat, Get Lost, and Shatara. You take yourself. Sound equitable?"
  48. [2013-09-25 14:31:32] * Shatara takes a moment to camoflage the firetruck.
  49. [2013-09-25 14:32:36] * Bookwright shakes his head. "No, how about I teleport everyone, including yourself, Noble Heart. I can manage it."
  50. [2013-09-25 14:33:53] * Noble_Heart frowns. "What of Sweet-E and Pink-E? We would not wish to abandon Our new companions if they wish to join us..."
  51. [2013-09-25 14:34:04] * CopyCat looks at Bookwright with wide eyes. "You can really do that Bookie?"
  52. [2013-09-25 14:34:33] * Get_Lost "we have a plan once we are in frontt of the shield, yes?"
  53. [2013-09-25 14:34:34] * Bookwright nods, slowly. "I've never done it before, but I'm sure I can. There's a first time for everything."
  54. [2013-09-25 14:34:50] * Get_Lost "otherwise, this blitz will be very short"
  55. [2013-09-25 14:34:52] * Bookwright looks lost for a moment. "Uh, actually no. We haven't gotten that far."
  56. [2013-09-25 14:35:15] <Kkat> 3Pink-E offers, "I can ride in your saddlebags. I bet Sweet-E can too!"
  57. [2013-09-25 14:35:58] * Get_Lost "i'm a little bit concerned about being trapped between a forcefield and an army of adorable killing mutant ewes"
  58. [2013-09-25 14:37:56] * Bookwright "The ewes are down in the gorge, we don't have to go in there."
  59. [2013-09-25 14:38:37] * CopyCat grins. "If we hug the bots real close then the spell might let us off. I would."
  60. [2013-09-25 14:39:16] * Bookwright shakes his head slowly.
  61. [2013-09-25 14:39:44] * Bookwright "Sweet-E... if we got you across, are you sure you could get us in there?
  62. [2013-09-25 14:40:50] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E ummms noncommittally, but Pink-E insists, "Piece of cake! Especially if it's raspberry cake. Cuz raspberry cake is yummy!"
  63. [2013-09-25 14:41:06] * Noble_Heart taps her chin and nods. "We shall have to figure out how We can bypass the shield when We get there..."
  64. [2013-09-25 14:42:32] * Bookwright "I don't like predicating this on hoping we'll be able to get through it when we get there.
  65. [2013-09-25 14:43:06] * Bookwright sighs. "The for sure option would be to find that prototype shield-disabling weapon."
  66. [2013-09-25 14:44:23] * Noble_Heart frowns. "We do not think it would work on this shield. It is not constructed the same as the protection of the empire."
  67. [2013-09-25 14:44:41] * CopyCat scratches her head. "But wasn't it just the pylon-shield that had a problem with sound waves? I'm sure I remember you reading that somewhere."
  68. [2013-09-25 14:46:59] * Bookwright "The pylon shield definitely was affected. I bet this one is made using the same technology."
  69. [2013-09-25 14:48:27] * Get_Lost "maybe it has some sort of entrance somewhere...."
  70. [2013-09-25 14:48:40] * Noble_Heart tilts her head to one side then shakes it. "We doubt that. Energy shields were not unknown before the war. Some of the Ministry buildings were tightly defended by them." She sighs. "It is likely not the same. But if Pink-E believes she can get us through the shield, We believe her."
  71. [2013-09-25 14:49:22] * Bookwright "...All right. Gather round, everypony. And griffin."
  72. [2013-09-25 14:49:43] * Get_Lost trots next to bookie and waits for the spell to be cast
  73. [2013-09-25 14:50:23] * CopyCat initiates a group hug and makes sure the bots were part too.
  74. [2013-09-25 14:50:40] * Bookwright closes his eyes and focuses. "A quantum, a quantum, my horn for a quantum..."
  75. [2013-09-25 14:51:21] * Bookwright opens his eyes. They are orbs of pure honey now. "Now you see me, now you don't."
  76. [2013-09-25 14:51:34] * Bookwright *POP*
  77. [2013-09-25 14:56:50] * Bookwright and company disappear, and reappear, and when they do they are suddenly on the other side of the gorge.
  78. [2013-09-25 14:56:50] <Kkat> 3Bookwright and his friends vanish from one side of the gorge and appear on the other with less than half a block of rubble between them and the magical pink dome.
  79. [2013-09-25 14:57:56] * Bookwright blinks a few times, and his eyes return to normal. "Whoof! That was... whoo. Wow. That was a /rush./ I need a little bit of a breather."
  80. [2013-09-25 14:58:38] <Kkat> 3Pink-E zips off in a direction tangential to the dome.
  81. [2013-09-25 14:58:40] <Kkat> 3"INVADERS!" the voice of Professor Paladin booms. "MY CRYSTAL BATTLE EWES WILL MAKE SHORT WORK OF YOU!"
  82. [2013-09-25 14:58:59] * CopyCat claps her hooves together and gives Bookwright an extra big hug. "Wow! You did it!"
  83. [2013-09-25 14:59:35] * Noble_Heart wobbles a few moments, glancing around and then rushing in the direction of Pink-E. "We recommend following Our pink friend as swiftly as possible!"
  84. [2013-09-25 14:59:54] * Get_Lost "alright, now what?"
  85. [2013-09-25 15:00:33] * Get_Lost checks the shield tapping at it
  86. [2013-09-25 15:00:56] * Get_Lost then notices the others running away and follows them
  87. [2013-09-25 15:01:04] * CopyCat nods. "Ah, running time."
  88. [2013-09-25 15:02:23] * Shatara acks and follows with.
  89. [2013-09-25 15:03:07] * Bookwright "Right. Running time!" He takes off after Pink-E.
  90. [2013-09-25 15:03:34] * Get_Lost is tragically slow when running
  91. [2013-09-25 15:08:45] <Kkat> 3Crystal battle ewes begin to crawl up out of the gorge, more bouncing towards the group from the rubble surrounding the dome.
  92. [2013-09-25 15:10:09] * Noble_Heart gallops as quickly as she can after Pink-E. "We should have asked for where to land! This is a terrible idea!"
  93. [2013-09-25 15:11:40] <Kkat> 3As the party follows Pink-E, the pink spritebot whistles a happy tune, zipping between broke crystals and over wrecked foundations until it reaches a culvert and disappears inside. Quick inspection reveals that the culvert leads to a sprite-bot tunnel almost identicle to the one Pink-E used to get into Stable-Tec.
  94. [2013-09-25 15:11:50] * Shatara notices Get_Lost falling a bit behind and takes off, banking around and scooping the mare in his talons. "MUSTGOFASTER"
  95. [2013-09-25 15:12:30] * Bookwright shouts down the tunnel, "HURRY UP IN THERE"
  96. [2013-09-25 15:12:52] <Kkat> 3The crystal battle ewes are not as fast, but are closing from multiple directions. And their crystaline tails glow with inner light.
  97. [2013-09-25 15:13:26] <Kkat> 3For the closest, that inner light suddenly becomes outer light, in the form of a magical energy blast.
  98. [2013-09-25 15:43:53] <Kkat> 3While the better part of a dozen creatures are trying to close in, only three can get clear shots through the crystaline rubble. One of the crystal battle ewes focuses on CopyCat and another on Bookwright, while the third blasts first Noble_Heart then Shatara.
  99. [2013-09-25 15:47:25] * Noble_Heart yelped in pain as the beam bit her flesh, stepping to one side slightly as her horn glowed and she pulled the massive crystaline lamp-post sword from its resting place at her side, a moment later the deep purple of her shield surrounding her. "We shall not be defeated by you cur!"
  100. [2013-09-25 15:47:55] * Bookwright is nearly bowled over. "AUGH!"
  101. [2013-09-25 15:49:53] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E whines. "Can I help?"
  102. [2013-09-25 15:50:20] * CopyCat screams and stumbles. Her horn flares, casting her shield around herself before the next attack reduces her to dust.
  103. [2013-09-25 15:50:38] * Bookwright grimaces. Lights his horn and heals himself.
  104. [2013-09-25 15:51:20] * Shatara squawks in pain as the beam cuts straight through his armor
  105. [2013-09-25 15:52:00] * Noble_Heart shakes her head. "Stay behind Us and be prepared to move when Pink-E has opened the way!"
  106. [2013-09-25 15:52:12] * Bookwright groans, and does it again.
  107. [2013-09-25 15:52:13] * CopyCat flaps awkwardly to take to the air, her backleg sending shards of pain throughout her body.
  108. [2013-09-25 15:53:08] * Bookwright huffs, and calms himself, and casts a different spell this time.
  109. [2013-09-25 16:17:56] * Bookwright shouts. "Anytime now, Pink-E!"
  110. [2013-09-25 16:22:55] * Shatara readies his rifle. Backs against the wall again...
  111. [2013-09-25 16:41:33] * CopyCat downs a Super Healing potion and pushes a regular potion into Bookwright's mouth like she was giving a baby its bottle, then she draws Kid's .45-70 Revolver from the filly's hostler and fires once at the nearest Ewe.
  112. [2013-09-25 16:49:50] * Bookwright is very glad he decided to keep his thumpy gun out. He unlimbers it and takes aim at the ewe roughly in the middle of the group, at medium range. And fires.
  113. [2013-09-25 16:50:54] <Kkat> 3CopyCat's shot with Kid's new gun shatters some of the crystals on the ewe's hide.
  114. [2013-09-25 16:57:41] <Kkat> 3Bookwright's mortor explodes directly on the back of one of the two farther crystal battle ewes in sight, shattering parts of its crystaline hide. The explosion catches the other ewe, rocking it but causing far less harm.
  115. [2013-09-25 17:10:30] * Noble_Heart moved a hoof fowards as she swung her massive weapon about in her telekinesis. "Take this, you cur! You will not claim Our friends today!" She attacked the closest Ewe with her lamp-post sword!
  116. [2013-09-25 17:11:39] * Noble_Heart snorted in irritation as she lowered her head to the edge of her shield, her horn glowing brightly and blasting arcane energy towards the nearest Ewe. "Back! You shall not claim Our friends!" She plants herself between her friends and the Ewes as thoroughly as she could.
  117. [2013-09-25 17:19:45] <Kkat> 3Noble_Heart's blast of arcane energy absolutely annihilates the closest battle ewe
  118. [2013-09-25 17:19:58] <Bookwright> Whooo
  119. [2013-09-25 17:31:48] * Shatara slips into SATS, unloading his rifle and killing until they die from it.
  120. [2013-09-25 17:35:56] <Kkat> 3Shatara fires his rifle, sending two devastating shots into the first battle ewe, killing it. He then shifts to firing at the other, felling it as well.
  121. [2013-09-25 17:36:49] <Kkat> 3There is no time for celebration, however, as two of the other approaching crystal battle ewes move close enough to attack.
  122. [2013-09-25 17:39:41] <Kkat> 3They fire at Bookwright and CopyCat.
  123. [2013-09-25 17:45:06] * CopyCat doesn't have anymore potions left so she picks the nearest Ewe and fires three shots, emptying her borrowed revolver.
  124. [2013-09-25 17:47:46] <Kkat> 3CopyCat's shots shatter large sections of the battle ewe's crystaling carapace, seeming to hurt it badly.
  125. [2013-09-25 17:50:18] * Bookwright fires at the same Ewe CopyCat just injured.
  126. [2013-09-25 17:51:03] * Bookwright then tries to hide from the incoming ewes behind CopyCat.
  127. [2013-09-25 17:53:47] <Kkat> 3Bookwright's mortor further injures the battle ewe which CopyCat had done harm to.
  128. [2013-09-25 17:54:46] * Noble_Heart turned her attention towards the Ewe coming from the opposite direction as her horn glowed again. "We hope that Pink-E is quick!" The energy blasts raining down on the other battle ewe with hope to drive it back. "We would also hope these creatures would not be so suicidal as to continue their attacks!"
  129. [2013-09-25 17:59:58] <Kkat> 3Noble_Heart's unleashed magic strikes at the creature. One of the arcane beams catches the crystals just right... not refracting through, but reflecting down into the body of the battle ewe. The creature wobbles, letting out a plaintive (and somewhat cute) cry, then expires.
  130. [2013-09-25 18:02:29] <Kkat> 3Before Shatara can take bead on the wounded battle ewe still visible, there is an odd warping sound and the magical dome shield around the library collapses. This is followed by the echo of a soft and tinny "...ta-da.." from the culvert.
  131. [2013-09-25 18:03:13] * Bookwright "Thank the Goddesses!"
  132. [2013-09-25 18:12:15] <Kkat> 3Sweet-E zips for the door along with Get_Lost, who proclaims that she will make sure the door is unlocked.
  133. [2013-09-25 18:14:28] <Kkat> 3A shot from Shatara's rifle fells the badly injured crystal battle ewe.
  134. [2013-09-25 18:14:32] * Shatara fires three shots into the remaining ewe, the en-bloc clip popping out with a distinct 'ping'
  135. [2013-09-25 18:16:06] <Kkat> 3Before everyone can run for the door, yet another crystal battle ewe moves into sight.
  136. [2013-09-25 18:17:39] <Kkat> 3This eye fires a magical energy blast at Noble_Heart.
  137. [2013-09-25 18:20:22] * CopyCat runs for the door. "Follow the CopyCat shaped blur!"
  138. [2013-09-25 18:20:56] * Bookwright chooses scurrying. For the door. Quickly.
  139. [2013-09-25 18:21:06] <Kkat> 3Get_Lost breaks a bobby pin, but manages to get the front doors of the Crystal Empire Library unlocked and open on the second try.
  140. [2013-09-25 18:22:54] <Kkat> 3Moments later, everyone piles inside and Sweet-E swings the door closed from within with a deep thud. You can hear the locking mechanism inside the door reassert itself.
