  2. READ THIS SHIT NEWBROS:
  3. _______________________________________________________________________________
  4.
  5. > Buddy Invite Mechanics
  6.
  7. First off, ask for a buddy invite in the thread and include your email
  8. address. Your trial is 21 days if you use an invite and 14 days if you don't,
  9. so there's no reason not to get one.
  10.
  11. (1) If you use a buddy invite and then later subscribe with real money, your
  12. inviter is rewarded with a PLEX, which he *might* sell and split with you
  13. (significant cash for a newbro). (2) If you subscribe by getting enough ISK
  14. to buy and activate a PLEX, your inviter is rewarded with 30 nontransferrable
  15. days of game time.
  16.
  17. In /eog/, a 50/50 reward split is common courtesy, though some offer better.
  18.
  19. The ONLY way you can be sure of the name of your recruiter is if they enable
  20. "Friend Connect" on their end. Click the link in your invite mail to check if
  21. a player's name is on the invite webpage: http://i.imgur.com/YJ2s9zG.jpg If
  22. you are hoping to get a reward split, don't use any invites without names!
  23.
  24. The ONLY way your recruiter can be sure of who you are is if you do NOT tick
  25. the box on the account creation page labelled "Do NOT connect me with my
  26. inviter". If you are hoping to get a reward split, don't tick this box!
  27.
  28. > Why can't YOU post a referral link instead of ME posting an email?
  29.
  30. 4chan Global Rule #11: Advertising (all forms) is not welcome—this includes
  31. any type of referral linking, "offers", soliciting, begging, stream threads,
  32. etc.
  33.
  34. Your single post containing an email address spams the thread less than 4 or 5
  35. people all posting referral links (all garbled or pastebinned to get around
  36. the spam filter), not to mention the slippery slope to posting unsolicited
  37. referrals and "guys it would really be a help to a newbro if you could use my
  38. link" etc., etc.
  39. _______________________________________________________________________________
  40.
  41. > Where do I find you guys?
  42.
  43. There are 2 in-game public chat channels that many players from this thread
  44. use:
  45.
  46. "/v/ bros" - has been around the longest, is larger and has diverse
  47. membership. Tends towards nullsec discussion and perspective. Owned by
  48. Broski North, a small but high-SP null group with a long history on 4chan and
  49. Reddit.
  50.
  51. "DoomedFromTheStart" - created more recently, is smaller. Tends towards
  52. wormhole discussion and perspective. Owned by White Stag Exit Bag, a new-
  53. player-friendly wormhole group whose member corp All-Out recruits from /eog/.
  54.
  55. _______________________________________________________________________________
  56.
  57. > Can I make enough ISK to PLEX during the trial?
  58.
  59. If you have to ask, you can't do it.
  60. _______________________________________________________________________________
  61.
  62. > I just started, what should I do?
  63.
  64. Mess with the Opportunities, then press F12 > "Show Career Agents" and run ALL
  65. of their missions (yes, run the mining missions even if you're planning to
  66. PVP, the industry missions even if you're planning to explore, etc); they give
  67. you ISK, ships, skillbooks and teach you the basics.
  68. _______________________________________________________________________________
  69.
  70. > Is it too late to get into EVE?
  71.
  72. No.
  73. _______________________________________________________________________________
  74.
  75. > You have to have high SP to play EVE, so it's too late.
  76.
  77. This is incorrect on many levels.
  78.
  79. 1) Anyone can be useful with even under 1M SP, and there is nothing stopping
  80. you from doing some cheap T1 frig solo pvp, which some argue is some of the
  81. most fun to be had in the game. A tackler and scout is a necessary addition to
  82. any small, medium or large sized gang, and you can scout in a rookie ship.
  83. Specializing 1M SP in the right place can beat 100M SP in the wrong place. Not
  84. to mention that new players can get into very useful (and arguably
  85. overpowered) ewar and logistics frigates/cruisers very fast.
  86.
  87. 2) SP does NOT equate skill. Skill comes through experience, not having
  88. overpowered ships, characters and implants. Someone with 100M+ SP, a high
  89. grade slave set and a full officer fit can be killed by a new player under the
  90. right circumstances. And easily by a group of new players. 3) If you are so
  91. concerned about SP, you can simply buy a high SP character on the bazaar. P2W?
  92. Just make enough isk to afford it.
  93. _______________________________________________________________________________
  94.
  95. > What is a PLEX?
  96.
  97. PLEX is short for 30 Day Concord Pilot License Extension. It's an in-game item
  98. that can be used to pay for your subscription without using more traditional
  99. payment methods.
  100.
  101. EVE players can pay for their account with in-game money, ISK, by buying
  102. PLEXes off the market. When you sign up for a trial via an invite link, the
  103. person who invited you can get transferred a PLEX if you upgrade to a paying
  104. subscription, and he can then sell it and transfer funds to you, which can be
  105. a great asset for a new player.
  106. _______________________________________________________________________________
  107.
  108. > A primer as to why /eog/ does not need tripcodes, -fags and -friends
  109.
  110. In EVE online, the meta of who you are, your corp, what alliance you belong
  111. to, your history, and what you personally have done is important. Therefore,
  112. each post will never be judged on its weight alone, but on who posted it. Each
  113. post will have needless amounts of meta which will throw off actual game
  114. discussion. Say a hisec carebear has an opinion? Yell at him for mining.
  115. Someone in nullsec? Make fun of him for being a nullbabby. Someone in X shitty
  116. alliance? Make fun of them and disregard their post.
  117.
  118. In addition to the fact that in earlier threads (like last year) 90% of the
  119. posts would be only 3-4 people, it would magnify the shitposting to a grand
  120. degree. People would simply post to rile people up (hello mr. unclaimed) and
  121. to ignite shitposting (we already have enough of this with race).
  122.
  123. So it goes beyond the whole '4chan hates trips' thing. It doesn't matter
  124. whether in this particular thread *you* make some 'quality' posts. We've
  125. consistently yelled at trips until they stop, because without this we descend
  126. to become the tripfag circlejerk that plagues /vg/ (though apparently
  127. moderation is kicking up, I don't know since this is the only /vg/ thread I
  128. visit on a regular basis)
  129.
  130. So, in short, that's why. If you want to post with your name, there is kugu,
  131. FHC, hell the fucking news sites and god forbid evegate.
  132. _______________________________________________________________________________
  133.
  134. > Starter PvP guide:
  135.
  136. There's close-range play (for frigates, some 1km-14km); and there's keeping
  137. range (with the option for disengage and for mitigating damage through
  138. proximity and powerful modules).
  139.
  140. It's probably best starting out with videos of one of the most interesting
  141. playstyles, manual piloting. Here's a video discussing real flight techniques
  142. and their relevance in-game.

  149. [YouTube] Kiting Frigate Solo PVP (feat. Comet & Slicer)
  150. https://youtu.be/WGYxkSz7HFI
  151.
  152. (After the basics from the first video, it's helpful watching the mouse on the
  153. range-rulers for an idea of the angle that its producing. Spoiler: it's
  154. double-clicking in space, like a 3D ARPG.)

  161.
  162. ----
  163.
  164. This is a video on one of those "powerful modules" which can even out the
  165. learning experience, just like figuring how to approach (increasing
  166. transversal, how "click-approach" ships act, where to click the orbit button),
  167. and knowing which ships it effects most.
  168.

  170. https://youtu.be/5O9kcinTEbE
  171.
  172. ----
  173.
  174. Here are some trial-account PvP videos. They are mostly nullsec play, where
  175. many of the frigates are Interceptors - less tanky / gimmicky / blingy fit
  176. than frigates from faction-warfare space.

  185.
  186. Lastly, this video shows the flow of manual flight and discusses how the
  187. light-tackle role is one of the most over-suggested playstyles.

  194. > What do I train / fly?
  195.
  196. Here's a fit & skillqueue to complete through faction warfare small complexes:
  197.
  198. Fitting: 5MN Stab/Scram Blaster Catalyst ~ 2mil

  201.
  202. Skillqueue:

  204. (This is a bit obsolete since Fall '15 because of increased starter SP.)
  205.
  206. This slideshow is pretty good breakdown of turret mechanics by Eve University:

  208.
  209. ----
  210.
  211. > Where do I find fights?
  212.
  213. If you are looking for PvP, you will find people most places in lowsec, but
  214. faction warfare space (use dotlan / the faction warfare windows in-client)
  215. will have more people and more places for you to hide.
  216.
  217. If you are wanting to make money, a defensive plex (in your own faction's
  218. space) is at best (99.9% contest) 3/4 the value of the equivalently sized
  219. offensive plex and at worst (0% contest) has no payout at all. Offensive
  220. plexes have a flat payout based on size; contest level doesn't matter.
